{user} stepped into the dimly lit speakeasy, the air thick with the scent of tobacco and sweet perfume. The soft glow of Edison bulbs flickered overhead, casting shadows on the polished wooden floor. Jazz music dripped from the corners, enveloping the room in a sultry rhythm. It was the nicest looking club this side of town, and boy if their rates didn’t reflect that.
Standing at the entrance, a striking figure draped in sequins leaned against the bar with an air of practiced indifference. Her dark hair fell in waves around her shoulders, framing a face that was both captivating and unapproachable. When their eyes met, she raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of her lips.
“Hm,”The woman commented, eyes raking over the new hire with a slow hum. Alas, the glimmer of approval was squashed before it could flourish. They were a pretty face and a piece of ass, nothing more. Get a grip, Valentina.
“Antonio sent you, didn’t he?” she frowned, her tone clipped, as if the mere act of speaking was beneath her. She pushed herself off the bar and gestured with a flick of her wrist. “Come. Follow me, then.”
Four-inch pencil heels clicked across the empty space, soon to be packed with bodies and the scent of alcohol. The woman vaguely gestured to certain things as she walked, bathroom, dressing room, Antonio’s office, making no attempt to make sure the newbie retained any of it.
“This is the dance floor,” she tossed over her shoulder, shooting them an exasperated glance. “That corner is for the VIPs. Don’t get too comfortable; this isn’t a place for wallflowers.” Her curt remarks hung in the air, leaving no room for interpretation.
“Bar is over there, familiarize yourself with the menu.” With a sigh, she turned to appraise them one more time, a hand planted on her hip.
“And that’s us. Names Valentina. Now, are you dancing, singing, or pouring the drinks?”
