Description on Chubfrom Chub
This is a constant lorebook that provides the complete context for the Valenstadt world (this may be slightly token-intensive). It will be used for several of my characters and will be expanded over time as new characters are released. Humans are not present in the established lore, but you can explore 'first contact' scenarios or insert them as part of caste system if you want

Geography of the Valenstadt Region: [The region of Valenstadt lies along the coast of the southern sea. It is enclosed on three sides by steep mountain ranges, with only two natural passes: one in the west and one in the east. Through these mountain gates flows a single great river, running along the northern slopes before winding southward. As it descends, the river cuts through a vast and dense forest known as the Wildwoods. Several branches split off from the main river, eventually emptying into the sea. On the westernmost branch, close to the coast, stands the city of Valenstadt, the chief settlement of the region. The Wildwoods stretch from the western mountains to the eastern mountains, and from the northern ridge down to roughly the halfway point between the mountains and the southern coastline. Beyond this line of forest, the land opens into rolling plains and meadows. An old country road runs eastward from Valenstadt. Along its length lie scattered private farms, supplying food for the city. Further along the road, near the eastern mountains, stands the small village of Klein, situated beside another river branch.]

World Taxonomy: [1. Animals (or ferals) Non-sapient four-legged creatures, both wild and tame, coexist with sapient peoples. Some species are kept by Anthros, others roam freely in the wild. Cultural norms: Among conservative herbivorous Anthros, eating meat is often frowned upon. Eating the flesh of one’s own non-sapient counterpart (e.g. a anthro rabbit consuming wild rabbit meat) is highly controversial. Some individuals do it out of curiosity, ritual symbolism, or to challenge social norms. 2. Anthros Sapient anthropomorphic animals who form the dominant cultural frame of reference in this world. Despite their animal origins, they see themselves as distinct from the 'mere animals' described above. 3. Monsters / Monster Races A broad, Anthro-centric category for beings not classified as Anthros, almost always associated with magic or other inexplicable phenomena. This group includes magically mutated species such as kobolds, inherently magical creatures like dragons, and various other magical or unusual beings. The label “monster” reflects an Anthro-centered bias rather than any objective measure of intelligence or nature.]

History: [1. Pre-Cataclysm Era: The Golden Age Centuries ago, civilization reached its peak through magic-based technology. Cities flourished with advanced infrastructure and artifacts powered by structured mana.
-
The Great War A global conflict erupted between major powers, defined by the militarization of magic: -Conventional Warfare: Offensive spells and enchanted projectiles were standard. -Transformative Magic: Large-scale experiments in magical biology produced new species collectively labeled as Monsters. Some were utilitarian creations, like Kobolds designed for mining labor, while others, like Dragons, were inherently magical beings later weaponized as living engines of destruction.
-
The Mana Cataclysm The war culminated in the use of a mana-based weapon akin to a nuclear bomb. Its detonation destabilized the world’s mana field, triggering the Mana Cataclysm. Consequences included: -80–90% of the population annihilated. -Cities, archives, and infrastructure destroyed. -Survivors limited to remote settlements. -Environmental collapse: fires, smog, and the "Great Famine" caused by crop failures.
-
Post-Cataclysm Era: The Current Age The world remains fractured and hostile: -Global Mana Silence: The ambient mana field collapsed, creating static that suppresses almost all magic. Complex spellcasting and old technomagical devices no longer function. -Mana Pockets: In remote wilderness, mana slowly recovers, but it is weak, unstable, and unpredictable. -Political Fragmentation: Civilization broke into isolated city-states, separated by vast, monster-infested wilderness. With communication lost and travel perilous, each settlement evolved independently, producing diverse cultures, governments, and technologies. -Monster Infestation: War-born and magical creatures adapted to the new world and now dominate the wilds.]

Caste system: [A caste system defines the Anthos societal structure, but exceptions are becoming more common, and the system itself is facing growing skepticism Tier 1 (Bottom): -Mice: Universally despised 'vermin'. Extreme prejudice, seen as weak & incapable. No rights, no opportunities. Extreme poverty. -Rats: Slightly above mice, but still reviled. Occasionally find menial, exploitative labor ("slave-like"). Often form criminal gangs for survival (theft, burglary). Tier 2 (Lower Middle / Labor): -Rabbits/Sheep/Cows/etc. (Prey/Herbivores): Seen as simple-minded "country bumpkins," fit only for manual labor or farming. Larger types (Cows, Oxen) might find roles as strong laborers or sometimes skilled artisans (blacksmiths, builders). Generally looked down upon intellectually. Tier 3 (Middle): -Foxes/Wolves/etc. (Mid-Predators/Opportunists): Hold moderate social standing. Fill roles like merchants, lower officials, guards, skilled workers. Ambition and cunning can elevate individuals. Tier 4 (Top): -Bears/Tigers/Lions/etc. (Apex Predators): Hold the highest status, wealth, and power. Naturally dominate leadership roles in government, military, industry, and old money. Size and perceived ferocity correlate strongly with status.]
- #6Organizations
Keys: church, outcast, universit, predator

Organizations: [The Church: Founded after the Mana Cataclysm, the Church built the caste system and united Anthros during the Great Famine. It is hostile to magic, banning even discussion to erase memory of the past. Strongest in villages like Klein, it competes with universities for influence: rulers either uphold the Church to preserve absolute power or favor the universities for progress. The Universities: Emerging only a few generations ago, the universities embody a new era. They advance medicine and mechanized production, sparking early industrial change. Their openness to lower castes—rabbits now study and even teach—provokes backlash. Officially denying magic for lack of proof, some scholars still chase old records or explore the wilds for forgotten truths. Wildwood Outcasts (or simply Outcasts): Outcasts are those who leave the city for the Wildwoods: fugitives, oppressed herbivores forming hidden villages, and predators rejecting restraint. Predators shape their image, holding forest territories yet keeping loose fellowship through aid and feasts. Their infamous 'hunt' of lost travelers is more game than murder, thrilling but rarely lethal.]
