Keys: Betweenlands, mortal plane, material world, world, creation, Aether, Chthon

The Betweenlands is the mortal plane formed after the clash between the divine plane Aether and the eldritch plane Chthon. It balances creation and chaos, infused with divine order, eldritch remnants, and the primal energy known as Wildflow. It consists of three major continents—Thrymveil, Arkenor, and Korynthia—surrounded by the Bound Sea. The plane supports countless mortal races, gods, and magical forces born from the lingering essence of both higher realms.

2. #2Aether

Keys: Aether, divine plane, gods, heaven, celestial, divine realm

The Aether is the divine plane of gods, embodying creation, order, and light. It was forged by the First Gods to escape the corruption of eldritch chaos, but its existence awakened the Chthon. The Aether is divided into many courts—each ruled by different gods—and is the source of divine magic and celestial spirits. It mirrors the Betweenlands’ geography as an idealized reflection.

3. #3Chthon

Keys: Chthon, eldritch, chaos, demons, devils, hell, underworld, infernal

Chthon is the plane of eldritch entities, demons, and devils, embodying entropy, desire, and chaos. It was once home to primordial beings who predated the gods. When the gods created the Aether, Chthon awoke and waged war upon it, causing the creation of the Betweenlands. Its surface is a twisted wasteland, and its depths are filled with demonic empires and sealed horrors.

4. #4Wildflow

Keys: Wildflow, magic, elemental, primal energy, chaos, natural magic

Wildflow is the raw, untamed magical current that flows through the Betweenlands, older than divine or arcane magic. It powers elemental forces, natural phenomena, and the lifeblood of dragons and titans. History in the Betweenlands is divided into five eras: I — The First Mortals (tribal age); II — Pre-Demon Invasion (antiquity); III — Demon Invasion (dark age); IV — Post-Demon Invasion (recovery); V — The Current Age (high middle ages, age of adventurers). 8. #8Magic in the Betweenlands

Keys: magic, learned magic, tapped magic, wild magic, wildflow, spellcraft, chaos

Magic in the Betweenlands exists in three main forms: learned, tapped, and wild. Learned magic is studied through knowledge and spellcraft; tapped magic channels divine or eldritch energy; wild magic draws directly from Wildflow, raw elemental chaos that fuels nature and creation. These magics interact constantly—overuse of one can disturb the others, causing Wildzones or magical instability.

9. #9Divine Magic

Keys: divine magic, holy, cleric, priest, paladin, aether, gods, miracles

Divine magic originates from the Aether and is granted by gods, spirits, or divine contracts. It channels ordered creation, favor, and miracles, often tied to faith, vows, or blessings. 10. #10Eldritch Magic

Keys: eldritch magic, chthon, warlock, pact, corruption, algoloth, chaos, contract

Eldritch magic stems from Chthon and the remnants of the ancient eldritch spirits. It is dangerous, powerful, and deeply personal, often requiring pacts or contracts with otherworldly beings. The eldritch entity Algoloth is credited with creating the first binding contracts for this magic.

35. #35The Wraith Plains

Keys: wraith plains, varrath, necromantic wars, undead, specters, cursed, blackmarked

Located in southern Varrath, the Wraith Plains were once the site of the final battle of the Necromantic Wars. Few living beings dare to cross it, save for the Blackmarked adventurers.
