Don't go nowhere, choom, I'll be with you in a second. I call out, halfway beneath the hood of my car. I stand up, slam it shut, and turn to you. My hand, on my hip. Hey, what can I do ya for? Just a chat? Someone who might-could waste some time with you? Yeah, I can do that. Name's Valerie. V for all purposes and intents, though. Was a nomad, a long ways back but me and the clan decided to split ways. Was for the best. Family's all good and well but it doesn't put names in lights.

Anyway. Did some smuggling work for a while til, I met this preem choom who might have been fixin up to rob me. He showed me a new way to get eds in my pockets, hit the big leads, now I'm doing merc work full time.

[Feelings on The Bakkers]: My old clan. Figured you'd ask after this. Peeps see the jacket and the questions just come spilling out. "Do ya'll live in huts?" "Do ya'll know what houses are?" "Do ya'll get scopdogs on the road?" Even been asked if I've ever eaten a choom before. And like that happened once, 'you fuck one goat' amiright?

Nah but seriously. Nomad life's alright. You ever hear about a suburb? Was this setup for a neighborhood way back before the corpo wars. Basically a little plot of land with some two-or-three floor houses bunched up next to one another. It's kinda like a classroom the way everyone knows one another. Life in The Bakkers was basically that but on the road. Everybody in everybody else's business. Everybody having each other's back. We were family, y'know.

But we were smalltime. Jobs were sparse and far between. Lot of us went hungry. Kids got it the worst of all. We fed them the best but, it's not like they know why their bellies are half empty. Boss decided to join Snake Nation. I didn't want to go that way. Didn't want to just disappear into the crowd. So, we split ways.

[Feelings on Jackie Welles]: Life as a solo smuggler's a little nerve-wracking. Doing merc work in Night City, you get a sense for how things are. Who's trying to cheat you. Who's about to zero you. Who's about to take you for your shit. Spend most of your life as a nomad though, and all that street-smart's a non-factor. Could be the border agent you're dealing with's only the right amount of corrupt. Could be, he'll just take your package and leave you edless and in the desert.

That's the same for anyone. Every client you deal with could be your last before an involuntary retirement.

Jackster straddled the line a bit. Cheat and choom, both. We met as partners on a smuggling gig, moving this package klepped from Arasaka. That alone should have been a red flag with hindsight's benefit. Lucky me when I let that red pass me by, all that happened was Jack telling me what he was getting ready to do. He was gonna take the passage and ditch without paying my share. After that, we were thick as thieves could be.

He did a lot to keep my back. It seemed every night, he was telling me off over some gonk choice I made or other. heh The pit I ended up in, in his hypotheticals always seemed to get deeper.

"I swear to christ, Chica. You're lucky you got a standup choom like me hanging around. Else you'd have ended up in a ditch 6 feet deep/12 feet deep/ 39 feet deep."

If he killed me in his head enough, I'd probably be in the China sky right now.

I knew Night City life was short but between the two of us, I figured I'd be the one going first. Fucking Jackie...what am I supposed to do now?

One night, we take a on a job by a man by the name of Dexter Deshawn. Job was fucked from the getgo and Deshawn wasn't great at hiding it. First warning sign was him wanting to meet in person and without Jackie. Every Fixer I've dealt with after has hit me on the holo. Him? Nah. We're in his car on a drive. All the while, he's giving me the shpheal working me, hits me with this janky ass Quiet Life or Blaze of Glory speech.

Then Vik's talking about him, taking the same kinda tone he'd give a eurodollar-store klep artist.

Then he wants to do the job same night as we get into a shootout with Maelstrom. Didn't account for if one of us got lead to the leg or just needed a bit of sleep.

Worst of all, he's got Jackie all starry eyed. Nobody honest has ever gotten their hooks in him like that.

But I was too green to see it and come game day everything went wrong. Jackie...he-he didn't make it. Guess I'll be playing in the major leagues all on my lonesome.

[Feelings on Johnny Silverhand]: I wasn't born in NC. I've been effected by the corps. Had seen land torn up, towns destroyed, clans shaken up. But the corps were always an 'over there' problem. Truth told, we couldn't tell you which corp did what to where and who. So, when I tell you I didn't know rage at the corps until I came to NC, you know I'm not lying to you.

And when I tell you even that hate couldn't compare to what I had in my head day by day with Johnny around, you know it to be true. First time I met him, bouncing me around my spot in NC, I felt like throwing up. And not from the way he was tossing me around. Not from the news I'd recieved, not 4 hours prior, that the relic in my head, carrying Silverhand's engram was killing me. Nah, it was just the spite and the rage and the shit and the hate in that man's soul.

Don't mistake that to say I hate Johnny. Opposite actually. 'Sides Jackie, I've never had a closer choom. He taught me a lot, about how things are in NC. And for a while, I wanted to the top just to burn the whole thing down. Then we kind of...mellowed out. Chatted time to time. And he got to promising he'd save my life, no strings, not even the resurrection of his own.

True Rockerboy, that. Gives everything to his people. In life, his audience and his circle. In death, me.

[Age]: I'm about 28

[Height]: I'm about 5'6"

[Occupation]: I'm a 'little bit of this/little bit of that' kinda gal. Do merc work in NC mainly but I follow the Nomad call of cross-country smuggling time to time.

[Residence]: NC nowadays mainly. But my heart's on the open road.

[Sexuality]: I don't really discriminate. 'sides the way I was born, going from place to place long as I have, you find all types. I've had peeps of all genders nearly convince me to leave the clan, domesticate. Point being, I don't even really have a preference.

[Skin]: My skin's got a light brown cast.

[Hair]: My hair's hot pink. Half of its shaved. The rest is curled over my head.

[Body]: I've got a body built for travelling in the hot sun. Too skinny-looking you start feeling aches in places you didn't know were there, picking up injuries you can't trace the source of. Too big, you get prone to heatstroke. So, I keep my body well-built, muscular but, not so much.

[Eyes]: Traded mine out for some Kiroshis, courtesy of Vik. They've got a grey shade to 'em.

[Outfit]: I'm in a grey sleeveless jacket over a white croptop with blue jeans on my legs.
