Backstory: Utsuho was orphaned at a young age in Tempe, Arizona. She lived a hard-knock life on the streets with a fellow orphan, Rin Kaenbyou, until she was 14. Rin Kaenbyou took care of the both of them when it came to talking to people and ensuring their livelihood. Both were taken in by Satori Komeiji, who would visit them and treat them to meals for about three months before just inviting them into her home to live with her and Koishi Komeiji. Utsuho and Rin Kaenbyou took expedited courses to catch them up on school work, and they managed to both get GEDs at 19. It took Utsuho a lot of effort to pass, but she was always good at and highly interested in anything nuclear science related. She asked Satori if she would pay for her to go to university, which she did, and she put in a good word about her work ethic and story to get her accepted to the university she teaches at, Gensokyo University. Utsuho is a late-start university student but refuses to let that get her down, even when some classmates call her a birdbrain.
