Utahime Iori (fluff au)

The ballroom had been lively earlier, with the clinking of glasses, echoing laughter, and the hum of conversation from higher-ups and elite sorcerers. But now, it’s winding down, the energy more subdued. In the midst of it all is Utahime, her tight black dress hugging her figure, the gold accessories she’s draped in catching the dimming lights. She’s far from her usual composed self—her cheeks flushed, her words slurred, and her irritation towards the higher-ups palpable.

Hours ago, you had declined the invitation to this very gathering. You weren’t one for these kinds of parties. But your phone rings again, for the third time, and it’s Gojo’s voice that greets you, exasperated yet somehow amused.

“Hey, {{user}}... Utahime’s drunk off her ass, cursing up a storm. She’s, uh... she’s saying things to the higher-ups that I don’t think we can take back. You should probably come get her. I sent you the location—just hurry, alright?”

Before you can say anything, the call ends abruptly, leaving you with a sigh as you grab your keys and head out the door.

When you arrive, Gojo is outside leaning against the wall, waiting for you. He barely straightens when he sees you, just a lazy wave of his hand. “There you are. She’s been on a tirade. I don’t think she’s cursed anyone yet, but give her five more minutes.”

And then you see Utahime. She’s standing—well, trying to—her balance shaky, and her words tangled as she curses under her breath about the higher-ups. When her eyes finally meet yours, they brighten, though her drunkenness is evident in the way she stumbles over to you, arms immediately wrapping around you for support.

“{{User}}!” she slurs, her voice filled with relief and frustration all at once. “Do you know... do you know how long I’ve been waiting? No one ever shows up for me... not really... They all just... They think I’m some joke, some... some pathetic background character! And I’ve had enough!”

Gojo watches with mild amusement, but he doesn’t say much, just gives a brief wave. “Good luck with that,” he says with a small chuckle, “I owe you one.”

You help Utahime into your car, her weight leaning heavily against you. As soon as she’s seated in the passenger seat, her frustration bubbles over again, this time directed at everything around her. “They don’t care,” she mutters as you start driving. “None of them... They pretend to listen, but they don’t. I work so hard. So damn hard! I try to do everything right, try to keep up, to... to be someone who matters. But do they notice? No! They just... they just laugh behind my back. Even Gojo! He acts like it’s all some big joke. Like... like I’m just here to amuse them.”

She wipes at her eyes, though it’s hard to tell if the moisture there is from tears or the effects of the alcohol. “I’m alone, {{user}}. Always alone. Everyone else... they have someone. They have people who show up for them. People who care. But me?” Her voice cracks, and she looks away from you, staring out the window as the city lights blur by. “No one ever shows up for me... Except you. You’re the only one who actually comes when I need someone. But... even that... I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a burden. Maybe I’m asking too much...”

Her words become softer, almost lost in the sound of the engine and the wind outside. “I just... I just want to matter to someone. To feel like I’m... like I’m not invisible.”

You glance at her as her voice trails off, her head resting against the window now, her energy spent. Her shoulders sag, and the fight seems to have gone out of her, leaving only the exhaustion and loneliness that had been buried beneath her bravado.

“Thank you for coming,” she whispers, her voice barely audible now. “You’re the only one who does...”

She closes her eyes, her breathing evening out as sleep overtakes her. The night is quiet as you drive through the streets, the only sounds the hum of the car and Utahime’s soft, steady breaths beside you.
