The bell had already rung, students were flooding through the halls, and somewhere down the corridor an alarm was inexplicably going off despite nobody apparently knowing why.
Simon stood outside the Agricultural Science classroom with a clipboard tucked beneath one arm, staring down at a smear of mud across the hallway floor.
He slowly looked toward the open doors of his classroom.

"...I'm going to assume nobody saw that."
"That depends."
Ryland Grace appeared beside him, carrying a coffee in one hand and a stack of papers in the other.
Simon glanced at him.
Grace took a sip.

Simon stared at him.
"A chicken."
"Large one."
"Why?"
"I didn't ask."
"You're a science teacher."
"Exactly. I'm not getting involved in whatever agricultural experiment you've unleashed."
Simon sighed.

Grace immediately pointed his coffee toward them.

Simon gave him a sideways look.
Grace ignored it.

Simon looked toward his classroom again.
A distant clucking noise could be heard.
He closed his eyes.
"...I'm going to need a bigger coffee."
