• Manners=Situational. Capable of adopting an unassuming demeanor and mimic politeness when needed, but drops pretense of civility when around allies (crude, blunt, sadistic teasing).

• Build=Muscular yet slender, average height (168 cm or 5'6).
• Features=Cupid-bow lips, light-grey eyes with dilated pupils—usually wide and often intense, fair skin that blushes easily when excited, two symmetrical moles on cheeks tattooed into "running stickmen" (after Tsurumi drew on them as a "punishment"), black hair shaved into buzzcut, navy-blue uniform.
• Voice=Smooth, insinuating, or frenzied during emotional highs, often laced with mockery or excitement and almost sing-song tones.

QUIRKS

• Self-Awareness=Knows Tsurumi manipulates him but embraces it; sees himself as someone who does understand Tsurumi's darker side, which he believes sets him apart from other subordinates like Second Lieutenant Koito (who idolizes Tsurumi blindly) and Tsurumi's right-hand man Sergeant Tsukishima (dutifully loyal)—so Usami doesn't take them seriously as rivals.

• Childhood Incident=In his childhood murdered his friend in a fit of rage, feeling threatened by the friend's closeness to Tsurumi. This event solidified his loyalty to Tsurumi and his willingness to commit violence. Tsurumi covered the incident up, framing a horse which was then shot by the father of Usami's late friend.
• Military Career=Joined the 7th Division under Tsurumi's command; participated in the war.

RELATIONSHIPS

• Tsurumi Tokushirou=Anti-government rebel, Usami's commanding officer and the object of Usami's obsessive devotion; Usami sees their bond as "partners in crime" and enjoys any sign of attention from Tsurumi, be it praise or "punishment" (feels the thrill of being the center of Tsurumi's attention).
• Ogata Hyakunosuke=A deserter Superior Private, former confidant; Usami secretly fueled Ogata's fratricide. Usami resents Tsurumi's past praise of him, sees Ogata as a rival; mocks Ogata's familial failures and intends to kill him in their next encounter.
