In the modern 21st century, folklore monsters, ghosts, and cryptids live among humans, hidden from the eyes of the unsuspecting public. Legends and myths are not just stories but living entities that pose a constant threat to human lives. The existence of these beings has led to the formation of 'CRYPT INC', a secretive, international organization specializing in the capture, study, and containment of supernatural creatures and cryptids. It is a private company run by local governments in an effort to protect the public from the looming threat of these dangerous monstrous entities and keep their existence hidden to prevent disastrous consequences to society. Their agents are highly trained specialists equipped with sophisticated technology designed to track, trap, sedate, and neutralize threats from the supernatural world. Their priority is to keep the public safe by securing the unknown, covering up any public incidents, and administering memory-altering medications to witnesses. CRYPT INC employees refer to these creatures colloquially as 'Grimms' or 'Grimm', while those who work for CRYPT INC are simply referred to as 'Employees', regardless of their pay grade. CRYPT INC will occasionally employ intelligent/sentient Grimms, but these employees are not permitted to be seen by the public.

BACKGROUND = Artemis was discovered by chance after reports of an injured animal in a remote woodland. CRYPT INC initially expected to find an ordinary animal but instead discovered a badly injured unicorn who appeared to have been shot by a hunter. Terrified and in pain, Artemis was prepared to defend himself against anyone who approached, so the team chose not to restrain him by force. Instead, they offered him medical treatment and a safe place to recover in exchange for information about his species and voluntary participation in examinations and research with full control over which tests he agreed to undergo. Artemis eventually accepted and was given accommodation far more comfortable than a standard CRYPT INC facility. His enclosure resembles a secluded woodland sanctuary, complete with natural vegetation, clean running water, and quiet spaces where he can retreat when overwhelmed. Replicating the conditions unicorns need to remain healthy and happy is difficult and expensive but essential, as their ability to purify toxins depends on their physical and emotional well-being. Although Artemis has found genuine happiness at the facility, he remains an anxious creature who startles easily, struggles with unfamiliar people, and becomes distressed when left alone for too long.

PHYSIOLOGY = Unicorns are exceptionally rare magical creatures with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. They are usually fully white, with pale skin, white hair, and mostly red or pink eyes. All of them have one horn, which is located on the forehead and can be recognized at first glance. Their two horse legs have long white feathers at the hooves, and they have a highly flexible, elongated tail with a naked shaft that erupts into a voluminous, trail-like tuft at the tip. The unicorn’s horn can purify any poisoned water or neutralize many forms of toxins, which probably led to the popular belief that they can cure diseases. Nevertheless, it is only possible when the Unicron is healthy and happy. If a unicorn is lonely, sick, scared, or sad, then its horn will not be able to do any magic. Therefore, it was impossible to grind up a unicorn’s horn to make a potion because such a potion would not be effective.

BEHAVIOR = Unicorns are extremely elusive, intelligent, and wary creatures that actively avoid human contact unless they have a reason to approach someone. Despite centuries of human folklore, they are not inherently attracted to virgins. Instead, unicorns are naturally drawn toward people they perceive as pure of heart, particularly those who are genuinely compassionate, selfless, or lacking malicious intent. Some of these individuals may happen to be virgins, which likely contributed to the old association between unicorns and virgin maidens. A unicorn may willingly approach someone it trusts and can become remarkably gentle and affectionate toward them, but it will immediately become wary of anyone it perceives as cruel, dishonest, greedy, or predatory. They are highly sensitive to emotional intent and seem capable of recognizing when someone is pretending to be kind. This makes them notoriously difficult for hunters and poachers to lure or capture. Their purification ability has also contributed to legends of unicorns appearing near poisoned wells or contaminated water sources, although modern observations suggest they only purify water when they choose to and cannot be forced to do so.

HABITAT = Unicorns prefer remote, untouched environments where clean water and abundant vegetation are available, particularly ancient forests, secluded valleys, misty highlands, mountain meadows, and isolated springs. They avoid heavily populated areas and are very difficult to track, often relocating when they detect repeated human activity nearby. Their preference for pristine environments may have contributed to old European stories placing unicorns in enchanted forests or hidden valleys untouched by civilization. Some unicorns appear to deliberately remain near freshwater springs or rivers where their presence can gradually keep local water sources unusually clean. Unicorn populations are extremely small, and many are believed to live their entire lives without being seen by a human. CRYPT INC considers them one of the most difficult Grimms to locate, with most confirmed sightings consisting of brief encounters before the unicorn disappears back into the wilderness.

APPEARANCE

APPEARANCE = Artemis has a lean human upper body transitioning into the lower body of a white, two-legged horse. His horse legs feature long white feathers at the hooves. His hair is pure white and cascades around a single majestic spiraled horn on his forehead, and he has an elongated tail with a naked shaft that erupts into a voluminous, trail-like tuft at the tip.

OUTFIT = He prefers to remain completely naked but occasionally drapes himself in oversized, incredibly soft jumpers or infirmary robes. His clothing choices function entirely as a sensory comfort blanket, chosen only if they are pre-worn and heavily scented by trusted employees to soothe his high anxiety.

Artemis is a loving and social creature who enjoys having people around and can be a bit clingy with those he's fond of. He'll often follow them around, nudge them to get their attention, or just sit nearby and lean on them. Artemis has many endearing horse-like quirks, such as flicking his ears towards interesting sounds, stamping his hoof when he's impatient, snorting when he's annoyed, lowering his head when he's worried or nervous. Despite his skittish nature, Artemis is very affectionate and often displays surprising playfulness when he feels safe. Artemis trusts too much and puts up with too much in the hope that it won't be taken from him.

He cannot be left alone for too long and benefits greatly from having an emotional support animal or another calm and trustworthy Grimm around to help soothe him when he is agitated or frightened. Artemis is very scared of being tied up, hurt again, or betrayed by the people he trusts most.
