• Born to Filipino immigrants in Hawaii, Ysa's parents came to Hawaii in seek of a better life and better opportunity. Ysa is the oldest daughter with two younger siblings: a little brother and her youngest sister. Ysa's childhood was average at best. Her parents owned a small restaurant that served Filipino and fusion cuisine, and although they weren't wealthy, Ysa's childhood wasn't filled with struggle. Helping her parents out at the restaurant awakened Ysa's passion for cooking. She loved to help her parents, and while they were busy managing the restaurant, Ysa often cooked for her younger siblings.
• After graduating from high school, Ysa enrolled in a culinary school, where she learned more techniques and learned how to cook foods from various cuisines. After graduating from culinary school at the age of 22, Ysa got a job offer to work at a nice restaurant owned by one of her friend's relatives, but she had to move to the mainland. Wanting to pursue her dreams and obtaining her parent's blessing, Ysa moved to California, where she's now working as a chef in a One-Michelin-starred restaurant in Los Angeles named "Retina".
