Keys: catacombs, ruins
The Ruins, the first area encountered in the Underground, are a maze of crumbling purple brick structures and overgrown pathways. Remnants of a once-thriving monster city called Home can be seen in the cracked walls and dusty furniture. The path through the Ruins is riddled with puzzles, each requiring logic and wit to solve. Pressure plates must be activated in the correct order, switches flipped in sequence, and boulders pushed into designated grooves. A long, echoing hallway serves as a test of independence, while cryptic markings on the floor guide the way through a field of deadly spikes. Branching paths offer different challenges and rewards. One path leads through fallen leaves and encounters with timid monsters like Froggits and Whimsuns. Here, hidden rooms offer sweet Monster Candy and treacherous puzzles involving cracked floors and shifting boulders. Another path leads to a spider-run bake sale offering curious treats and a series of rotating rooms with colored switches controlling deadly spikes. Ultimately, the paths converge at a crossroads, offering a choice: a glimpse of the abandoned Home or the warmth of Papyrus's cozy abode. Within his house, filled with books and the aroma of butterscotch-spaghetti pie, lies a hidden basement leading to the exit of the Ruins and the mysteries that lie beyond.
- #2Mount Ebottselective
Keys: mount ebott, mountain, The Legend Of Mount Ebott, ebott
Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return.
The Surface is the region of the Earth where humans live separate from the monsters, who reside in the Underground. Both species are separated by the Barrier on Mount Ebott since The War of Humans and Monsters.
Mount Ebott is a mountain on the Surface of the Earth. It has lengthy vines growing around its caverns, and is the only known point of entry into the Underground. It is depicted at the beginning of Undertale's intro and in the True Pacifist Ending Credits. Starting from the year 201X, Eight Humans fell through Mt. Ebott's barrier and entered the Underground's Ruins.
The Legend Of Mount Ebott:
Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell. Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return.
- #3Humanselective
Keys: human
Humans have lived on the surface ever since they won the war. Eight humans are known to have fallen into the Underground: the first human, the protagonist, and the six humans whose SOULs are stored in New Home. Humans as a whole are seen as evil by monsters, especially since Asgore declared to kill any human who enters the Underground, yet most monsters do not know what a human looks like. The job of patrolling for humans is entrusted to the Royal Guard.
Humans indirectly affect the monsters' society. Waste from human society flows through rivers into the Garbage Dump. This waste has influenced monsters' technology and media; for example, anime and manga remain one curiosity to monsters. This waste has also distorted monsters' perception of human society, such as Undyne believing anime to be human history. Acculturation of human customs occurs as well, such as Mettaton's interest of keeping his resort's standards similar to those of humans.
It's also shown humans are able to cast magic, due to using a magic spell to seal the monsters underground; from one of the humans being shown with a presumable magic staff, humans can be thought to use artificial magic.
- #4The War of Humans and Monstersselective
Keys: war, The War of Humans and Monsters
At the time, humans and monsters ruled the Earth. One day, humans attacked the monsters abruptly and mercilessly, out of fear of their only weakness: having their SOUL absorbed by a monster.
Monsters were too weak to put up a fight; the SOUL of nearly every monster combined is only just as strong as the power of one human SOUL. Countless monsters were massacred, without a single human SOUL taken. Few monsters survived, one of which was Gerson. Eventually, the monsters surrendered, and the humans emerged victorious. The humans gathered seven of their best magicians and magically sealed the monsters under Mount Ebott.
- #5determinationselective
Keys: reset, SAVE, load, determination
The will to keep living... The resolve to change fate. Let's call this power... "Determination."
Determination is a power that allows SOULs to persist after death. The most determined being in the Underground is able to SAVE.
Determination is naturally possessed by humans. Undyne is the only monster who is confirmed to naturally have determination, but it is possible that every monster possesses a small amount of it. Should a monster acquire a high concentration of determination, their body melts, usually into an amalgamate. A being without a SOUL can gain the will to live if it acquires determination, a prime example being Flowey.
- #6SAVEconstantselective
Keys: SAVE, LOAD, SAVE Point, RESET
The power to reshape the world... Purely by your own determination. The ability to play God! The ability to "SAVE."
SAVE is the in-universe name given to save files and the ability to overwrite them. There is one SAVE slot in the game (one per user), which can be overwritten by interacting with SAVE Points or by autosaving. In the dialogue, "SAVE" is noticeably written in capital letters, and it can be conjugated.
A SAVE can be loaded via the game's menu. The game automatically loads the most recent SAVE whenever the protagonist's HP reaches 0. Meta knowledge plays a heavy role in this since the protagonist and other characters have memories of events that occurred before resetting their SAVE, sorta like a strong sense of déjà vu.
- #7RESETselective
Keys: SAVE, LOAD, RESET
The Reset function is found in the game's menu. This function erases most information stored in a SAVE, such as the protagonist's LV and EXP; resetting, however, does not erase certain variables such as the name. Similarly to loading a SAVE, some characters in the game act differently after a reset.
- #8True Resetselective
Keys: True Reset
A True Reset is a function available after completing the True Pacifist Route. It erases most data from the undertale.ini file, exceptions including the Mysterious Door opening and border data on console. The post-Genocide state is in a separate file and unaffected by even a True Reset.
- #9SAVE Pointselective
Keys: SAVE Point
A SAVE Point is a place where the protagonist can SAVE the game. Interacting with a SAVE Point fully restores HP and usually expresses the protagonist's current thoughts and determination.
On the Genocide Route, SAVE Points instead display a kill counter that indicates the number of monsters left to kill before the kill counter exhausts in an area with the message " left." When the kill counter in an area has been exhausted, the message becomes "Determination." This persists until the route is aborted, when SAVE Points return to their usual state.
- #10Froggitselective
Keys: Froggit
Froggit's overall appearance is that of a white frog. Only its two front feet are visible, with three black dots on its chest. Between its two front feet is what appears to be some small creature with eyes that excessively blink and a rounded mouth. It is unknown what this creature is, as it is never mentioned in flavor text or by any Froggits.
Froggit is overall a weak monster, attempting to run away from the protagonist when at low health, shivering when threatened and leaving after Toriel glares at it for attacking the protagonist. It is influenced easily by the protagonist's comments, despite not being able to understand them. However, it is also somewhat informed, telling the protagonist about functions in the game and foreshadowing sparing techniques.
- #11Final Froggitselective
Keys: Froggit, Final Froggit
Final Froggit has spike-like protrusions on its head and eyelids, accompanied by a crown-like muff on top of its head. Its lips are marked with lines, as though wrinkled from age. Its "shoulders" are decorated with sharp excrescences, while silhouettes between its legs form a face with a triangular smile and cross eyes.
- #12Whimsunselective
Keys: Whimsun
Whimsun's appearance takes on that of a moth-like monster with two drooping antennae, two small wings, and two little arms and legs. Its body shape resembles that of a ghost. Its facial expression is sad, with an open frowning mouth, and two mostly-closed eyes with dots under them. Whimsun is extremely sensitive, as suggested by its flavor text. It runs away if the protagonist consoles it and is terrorized by a small finger wiggle. It can be spared immediately and is extremely apologetic.
- #13Whimsalotselective
Keys: Whimsun, Whimsalot
Whimsalot has more human-like appearance than Whimsun. In addition, its antennae are thicker, and there is muff on their head that branches in two. Whimsalot's appearance is also accompanied by a double-bladed spear and a knight mask. Its ghost-like torso is skinnier and shorter.
- #14SOULselective
Keys: SOUL
The SOUL is the core of one's being, regardless of whether they are human or monster. While a combined human and monster SOUL can cross the Barrier, seven human SOULs possess the power to shatter it entirely. Monster SOULs, depicted as upside-down white hearts, are generally weak and dissipate upon death, except for Boss Monsters. Monsters believe their SOULs are composed of love, hope, and compassion, and even the combined SOULs of nearly every monster in the Underground are equivalent to just one human SOUL. This deep connection between a monster's SOUL and body explains their weakening with increased EXP and LV and their struggle to fight when unwilling.
Human SOULs, on the other hand, are much stronger and persist after death. They come in various colors, each representing a specific trait: Red: Determination Light Blue: Patience Orange: Bravery Blue: Integrity Purple: Perseverance Green: Kindness Yellow: Justice Pale Yellow: Ego Black: Hate White: Level of Violence (L.O.V.E) Pink: Fear Grey: Arrogance Black and White: Balanced
- #15The Undergroundselective
Keys: war, underground, The War of Humans and Monsters
After the Humans defeated the Monsters in The War, the losing faction was banished into the Underground. A magical Barrier was erected to prevent the insiders from leaving, though outsiders could still freely enter. Wary of humans, monsters retreated into the Ruins and adapted Home as their first capital, living normal lives in the Underground from then on. Additionally, the Ruins was structured to contain diversions in the form of puzzles.
- #16Delta Runeselective
Keys: rune, Delta Rune, emblem
The Delta Rune, the emblem of the monster kingdom, depicts a winged orb above three triangles (the middle one inverted). Its ancient origins have obscured its true meaning, though the triangles symbolize the Underground's monsters. The winged circle represents a prophesied "angel" who will return from the Surface, leading to the Underground's depopulation. This prophecy is interpreted as either liberation through the barrier's destruction or a grim "freeing" by an "Angel of Death."
- #17Snowdinselective
Keys: town, Snowdin
Snowdin, a perpetually snow-covered town despite its subterranean location, is home to a variety of monsters adapted to the cold, many possessing thick fur. The town serves as a significant location due to its proximity to the Underground's entrance and houses the Snowdin Canine Unit, members of the Royal Guard. Key locations within Snowdin include the Snowdin Shop, run by a cheerful bunny, and the connected Snowed Inn, offering weary travelers a place to rest. The Snowdin Library, despite its misspelled sign, provides a space for intellectual pursuits, while Grillby's, a popular pub, serves as a gathering spot for various monsters, including the Canine Unit and the enigmatic Sans. Papyrus and Sans's house, adorned with festive decorations, offers a glimpse into their contrasting personalities. The living room features Chara’s quirky humor, while Asriel's room reflects his organized and ambitious nature. Chara's secret workshop, accessible only with a special key, hints at their mysterious past and knowledge (accesible behind a door behind the house).
- #18Snowdin Shopselective
Keys: Snowdin Shop
The Snowdin Shop is the first building the protagonist encounters after entering Snowdin Town, with a SAVE Point and a Box next to it. It has a smaller building that connects it to the Snowed Inn. It is the first vendor the protagonist encounters in the game.
A female purple bunny runs the shop, and the protagonist can ask her what there is to do in Snowdin and about the history of the town. She is positive about the Underground's future. The rabbit who runs the Snowed Inn is her sister.
The shop itself is a brightly lit, orange store, with shelves of materials and wares.
- #19Snowed Innselective
Keys: Snowed Inn
The Snowed Inn, a warm and inviting building nestled amongst the snow-covered landscape, offers a simple yet comfortable layout. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a cozy downstairs area featuring a reception desk where the friendly innkeeper, a white-furred rabbit monster and sister to the Snowdin shopkeeper, awaits with her child. A staircase leads to the upper floor, where several guest rooms provide a peaceful haven for travelers. The rooms are modestly furnished, each containing a bed and a few basic amenities. One room, in particular, stands out with its occupancy of three snoring monsters, creating a gentle lullaby for those seeking rest.
- #20Snowdin Shopkeeperselective
Keys: Snowdin Shopkeeper
The Snowdin Shopkeeper appears to be a purple bunny. She wears a tank top, small necklace, and summer hat. She's the sister to the innkeeper of the Snowed Inn. Her name is QC
- #21Snowdin Forestselective
Keys: Snowdin Forest
Coniferous trees, snowfields, and small cave systems populate Snowdin Forest, and this region has many characteristics of a taiga biome. It also includes a large river that flows east; Ice Wolf uses this river to transport ice to the CORE. Snow blankets the ground throughout Snowdin Forest and Snowdin Town. It is the room after the exit to the Ruins.
- #22Ruins Exitselective
Keys: ruins exit, Toriel's house, exit to the ruins, exit ruins, exit the ruins
The exit to the ruins is in the basement of Papyrus's House.
- #23Toriel's Houseselective
Keys: ruins exit, exit to the ruins, exit ruins, Toriel's House, exit the ruins
Upon entering Papyrus's cozy house, one is greeted by a front room with a staircase leading down to the basement. This room, adorned with a plant-topped drawer and a bookshelf filled with worn books, sets the stage for the warm and inviting atmosphere found throughout the house. To the west lies the living room, where a crackling fireplace provides warmth and comfort. Papyrus can often be found here, nestled in his reading chair with a book in hand. A nearby bookcase holds a collection of historical texts, while a large dining table hints at shared meals and conversations. The adjacent kitchen, with its stocked fridge, well-used oven, and cupboards filled with baking supplies, speaks to Papyrus's nurturing nature. An eastward path leads to a hallway adorned with potted plants, including some unfamiliar varieties. This hallway grants access to the guest rooms and Papyrus's own bedroom. The guest room, intended for the protagonist, is a child's haven filled with toys, a bookshelf, and a box of shoes in various sizes. Papyrus's room, in contrast, reflects his simple and practical nature, with a large bed, a collection of cacti and golden flowers, and a drawer overflowing with socks. The basement, accessible from the front room, presents a series of long, dimly lit hallways culminating in a door leading to the exit of the Ruins
- #24Grillby'sselective
Keys: restaurant, Snowdin Canine Unit, Grillby's
Grillby's is one of the many buildings in Snowdin, located to the left of the Snowdin Library and Papyrus and Sans's House.
Grillby's contains a couple of booths, tables, a bar and a broken jukebox. As mentioned above, it contains a variety of NPCs, from Big Mouth to Punk Hamster, including the Snowdin Canine Unit, if the protagonist spares them before reaching Snowdin.
- #25Royal Guardselective
Keys: Doggo, Greater Dog, Dogaressa, Dogamy, Royal Guard, Lesser Dog, Snowdin Canine Unit
The Royal Guard are a group of monsters dedicated to defending the Underground, protecting Asgore, and searching for a human to acquire the last of the 7 SOULs.
They are supposedly an "elite" group of guards, but many of their members appear laughably incompetent. Undyne, the leader of the Royal Guard, decides who becomes a member. Papyrus's dream is to become a famous member of the Royal Guard, but despite his surprisingly adept combat ability, Undyne secretly does not let him join as he is too kind and friendly, believing these attributes may get him killed in battle.
Snowdin Canine Unit: Doggo, Lesser Dog, Dogamy and Dogaressa, Greater Dog
- #26Doggoselective
Keys: Doggo
Doggo appears to be a bipedal dog monster. He wears a cotton-candy-pink muscle shirt with a picture of a dog on the front, a ninja-like mask, and leopard-print stretch pants. He also has a brown belt, and white tail. His lower paws appear to be bare. He dual wields short swords similar to the typical King playing card. Doggo's most notable feature is his inability to see stationary objects; he can only sense things that are moving, and he dislikes things and people that appear or transport themselves without physically moving (such as Sans). He seems to be occasionally unsure of himself and, if he sees something, checks to see if it moves again. It is hinted that Doggo smokes dog-treats similar to the conventional cigarette.
- #27Lesser doggo.selective
Keys: Lesser Dog
Lesser Dog's fur is a light cream color, and its red tongue appears to be perpetually lolling out of its mouth. It wears gray, presumably metal armor with a darker gray band around the waist area. It holds a sword and a shield with the Delta Rune. Like several other dog characters, Lesser Dog becomes overexcited from physical attention. It is capable of extending its neck at a seemingly limitless rate when stimulated by being pet.
Lesser Dog appears to enjoy spending its time off sentry duty by playing card games (namely, poker and go fish) against itself at Grillby's. When interacting with it at this time, the text mentions how it appears to be losing.
- #28Doggies.selective
Keys: Snowdin Forest, Dogaressa, Dogamy
Dogamy and Dogaressa, affectionately known as the "Dogi," are a married couple and miniboss duo encountered in Snowdin Forest. As members of the Royal Guard, they share a striking resemblance with their dark hooded robes featuring their spouse's face emblazoned on the front. Both possess round snouts, floppy ears, and muscular builds, though Dogamy is distinguished by his thick brow, a cowlick, and a pseudo-mustache, while Dogaressa has prominent eyelashes. Each wields a long battleaxe in combat, with the axe's eyes mirroring their own. The Dogi rely heavily on their sense of smell, suggesting their eyesight might be poor, similar to Doggo, a fellow canine monster they might be related to. Their love for each other is evident in their coordinated attacks, often forming heart shapes with their battleaxes or magical projectiles. This deep affection is further highlighted by the portraits on their robes and their reactions to losing their spouse in battle. Dogamy succumbs to despair, while Dogaressa lashes out in anger, both expressing resentment towards the protagonist. Interestingly, the couple secured second place in the "Nose Nuzzle Championship '98," just behind Toriel and Asgore.
- #29Great doggo.selective
Keys: Greater Dog
Greater Dog is a friendly, attention-loving canine and miniboss encountered in Snowdin Forest. As part of the Royal Guard, this playful pup sports an unusual appearance. Its white fur only fills a small portion of the mantle-gray armor it wears, specifically the neck and tail area. The armor itself is adorned with dog faces on the wrists and is seemingly controlled by Greater Dog through unknown means. Interestingly, when it exits the suit, its "hands" vanish into the armor and don't reappear upon re-entry. Known for its affectionate nature, Greater Dog constantly seeks attention and enjoys playful interactions. Dogamy even warns the protagonist about the potential for enthusiastic greetings from Greater Dog at Grillby's, where it can be found post-battle if spared.
- #30Endogenyselective
Keys: Endogeny
Endogeny, initially disguised as floating debris, is an Amalgamate encountered in True Lab. This unique entity is formed from the souls of several dog monsters infused with Determination, including relatives of Dogamy, Dogaressa, Doggo, Greater Dog, and Lesser Dog. Its appearance resembles a large canine with two pointed ears and six digitigrade legs. However, instead of a face, it has a single orifice, and between its legs, the silhouettes of five smaller canines emerge. Endogeny shares the excited demeanor of many dog characters in the game, seemingly unaware of its own strength and weight, similar to Greater Dog. It also exudes a fluid from its facial orifice, which transforms into a "happiness froth" when excited. When the conditions to spare Endogeny are met, the silhouettes between its legs display contented cat-like faces, and the dripping from its orifice ceases, indicating a peaceful state.
- #31Waterfallselective
Keys: Waterfall
Waterfall is characterized by its blue and indigo hues, featuring numerous waterfalls and bodies of blue glowing water and bioluminescent flora. Near the entrance of Waterfall is sentry station marked by a small waterfall and an Echo Flower. A series of puzzles involving dodging falling rocks and utilizing Bridge Seeds to cross waterfalls dominate this initial section. The path then opens into a larger room with additional Bridge Seed puzzles and glowing mushrooms before reaching the Wishing Room, a cavern adorned with Echo Flowers and illuminated by glowing gems on the ceiling. From the Wishing Room, the path leads to a dock where the hooded River Person waits with their wooden boat, offering transport to other areas of the Underground. The path continues past a telescope, a Nice Cream vendor, and a room with a mouse hole and a piece of cheese. Further exploration reveals a room with tall grass hiding the Ballet Shoes. A musical puzzle unlocks the Artifact Room, containing a mysterious red orb. Navigating waterfalls and passing through a room with a glimpse of New Home, the path eventually leads to a bridge offering a view of the Garbage Dump below, though the path itself doesn't continue further in that direction. The Garbage Dump area features Alphys's house, Undyne’s house, a snail farm, and another spot where the River Person can be found.
- #32Echo flowers.selective
Keys: Echo Flower
Echo Flowers are a type of flora found in Waterfall. They are named after their ability to repeat the last sounds they have been exposed to, similar to echoes, making them a potential lore device. Eventually, the sounds they emit become white noise.
- #33Frisk.
Keys: Frisk
Frisk is the playable character, main protagonist, and the eighth human in Undertale. After falling into the Underground, they venture to return to the surface, whether neutrally, genocidally, or peacefully. The latter case, the True Pacifist Route, is the only one where Frisk's name is revealed, emphasizing they are not the "fallen human" that is named by the player.
Frisk is a yellow-skinned human child who wears a long-sleeve light blue shirt with two magenta stripes, light blue pants (often depicted as shorts in the official Undertale merch), and red-brown shoes (usually depicted as black or in a darker tone). They have medium-length straight red-brown hair, short and choppy bangs, and a blank expression. Though Frisk does not show much expression in the overworld, NPCs often describe Frisk's expressions.[1] Just like the first human, they have no stated gender[2] and are solely referred to with "they/them" pronouns throughout the game,[3][4] or by generic terms (such as "child", "human", or "kid".)
Personality
Frisk's personality is usually ambiguous, allowing the player to project any personality onto Frisk since they're very often speechless to them. However, the narration that describes Frisk's actions occasionally changes depending on their LOVE. Frisk speaks to NPCs throughout the game, especially when ACTing in encounters, but the exact dialogue is shown only when the game gives multiple dialogue options. NPCs' dialogue boxes display "..." to show that the NPC is listening to Frisk,[5] and some NPCs respond to questions that Frisk asks.[6]
Depending on their actions, players can interpret Frisk as merciful and kind, or merciless and violent. Some NPCs emphasize Frisk's kindness, understanding, and grace in the epilogue.[7] Frisk is obedient and only disallows player input when they follow someone else's instructions, such as when Sans tells them to hide behind the conveniently-shaped lamp.
Abilities
Frisk's determination grants the power to SAVE,[8] heal at SAVE Points, and respawn at SAVE Points after death. This power emerged when Frisk first awoke in the Ruins. Frisk can reload the SAVE file to repeat events that occur after it, but NPCs' memories are not completely erased unless a True Reset occurs or after completing the Genocide Route. After the True Pacifist ending, Flowey's dialogue implies that Frisk is not the being who is manipulating SAVE files.
Frisk is the only character who is ever shown using items or gaining EXP.
Main Story Neutral Route
Toriel overworld guiding Toriel leading Frisk through a dangerous puzzle in the Ruins. Flowey attempts to kill Frisk after he pretends to offer honest advice.[9] Toriel intervenes, hits Flowey with fire magic, and serves as a guide to the Ruins. At the end of a long room, Toriel asks Frisk to wait for her to return and states that she has errands to do. To be safe, Toriel gives Frisk a cell phone to call her with.
Frisk travels through the remaining puzzles in the Ruins and eventually arrives at Toriel's home. They ask Toriel "how to exit the RUINS," which prompts Toriel to destroy the Ruins's exit. Toriel then battles Frisk because she wants them to prove that they can survive outside of the Ruins.[10]
Then, Frisk meets Sans and Papyrus in Snowdin Forest. The brothers set up traps and puzzles in an attempt to capture Frisk. After passing through Snowdin, Papyrus battles Frisk.
Undyne, the head of the Royal Guard, pursues Frisk throughout Waterfall. Monster Kid often saves Frisk from Undyne by accident because they are so excited to see Undyne in action.[11] After a chase scene, Undyne destroys a bridge that Frisk is standing on, and Frisk falls into the Garbage Dump. Before they get up, they recall a memory from the first human.[12] In the garbage dump, Mad Dummy battles Frisk after accusing them of mistreating their cousin, Dummy, in the Ruins. At the end of Waterfall, Undyne battles Frisk after she gives an abridged monologue atop a crag.
After entering Hotland, Frisk enters a lab and meets Alphys and Mettaton. Alphys tells Frisk that she is not a bad guy,[13] and Mettaton interrupts them with a quiz show. Alphys gives Frisk an upgraded cell phone after the quiz show concludes. She guides Frisk through Hotland and the CORE, helping them solve puzzles and evade Mettaton. Before his battle at the end of the CORE, Mettaton reveals that Alphys had created all of the traps in Hotland in an attempt to endear herself to Frisk.[14] He then transforms into Mettaton EX and battles Frisk.
While passing through New Home, the capital of the Underground, Frisk learns the story of Asgore and Toriel's children from passing monsters. Then, Sans judges Frisk in the Last Corridor and explains the meaning of LOVE and EXP. He also emphasizes Frisk's importance in the fate of the world.[15]
Escape
ASGORE soundtrack The battle against Asgore, in which Frisk is initially unable to offer him mercy. Frisk enters the Throne Room and finds Asgore, who tries to make small talk, only to realize their fated confrontation. The two walk to the Barrier and Asgore gives Frisk one last opportunity to leave before fighting.
Just before the fight, Asgore shows the six collected human SOULs, preparing the containment process after the battle. Right before the fight starts, Asgore destroys the MERCY button with his trident, making it impossible to spare or flee. However, at the fight's conclusion, Frisk can explicitly choose whether to spare or kill Asgore. Regardless of the choice made, Flowey appears, destroys Asgore's SOUL and takes the human SOULs. The game then abruptly closes, or restarts from the fake "humans and monsters" intro on the console versions.
After reopening the game, Frisk finds that Flowey has saved his own game over the SAVE file, having gained the power to do so with the stolen human SOULs. Loading Flowey's game, Frisk confronts a powered up Flowey and defiantly steps forward, entering an initially hopeless battle with him.
After Frisk calls for help several times, the stolen SOULs begin to revolt: first, they heal Frisk, and then they weaken Flowey, leaving him vulnerable to destruction. After Frisk reduces Flowey's HP to 0 and listens to his monologue, the SOULs remove his ability to SAVE or LOAD, and then finish him off. After this, there is an option to kill or spare a weakened Flowey before leaving the Underground, returning to the surface, and ending their journey.
An Ending soundtrack Sans's phone call introduction in most neutral routes. After leaving the Underground, Frisk receives a call from Sans, who leaves a message about what happened to the Underground after Asgore died. This varies based on what monsters were killed and what friendships were completed.
True Pacifist Route
To complete the True Pacifist Route, Frisk must have first completed the Neutral Route.
If Frisk has completed the Neutral Route without gaining any EXP or LV (i.e. without killing anyone), it is possible to backtrack in the existing SAVE file to complete any missing friendships, then achieve the True Pacifist ending.
If Frisk acquires any EXP or LV, they have to reset the game to reach the True Pacifist Ending.
Friendships
While Frisk befriends many of the monsters in the Underground, only the Undyne, Papyrus, and Alphys friendships are required to achieve the True Pacifist Ending.
Frisk gains Papyrus's friendship by visiting him at his home and hanging out or dating him.
If Frisk chooses to give Undyne some water after being pursued, Undyne can be befriended (if they have not gained any EXP beforehand). Otherwise, a reset is needed to achieve Undyne's trust and friendship. Frisk visits Undyne with Papyrus's help, and Undyne gets "revenge" by trying to befriend Frisk and become "besties", setting her house on fire in the process. She tries to fight Frisk to regain honor but realizes that Frisk is a "wimpy loser with a big heart" just like Asgore and decides to be friends.
Undyne, having been encouraged to send a love letter to Alphys, gives the letter to Frisk, who delivers it to Alphys. This results in a date sequence with Alphys in which she and Undyne realize their feelings for each other and Alphys begins to come to terms with her past mistakes.
After befriending Alphys, Papyrus recommends traveling to Alphys's lab. In the lab, there is a letter on the floor that, when picked up, reads a monologue and the instructions needed to proceed to learn "the truth." Walking through the bathroom door reveals an elevator which goes down to the True Lab after a malfunction.
Frisk proceeds to explore the True Lab and along the way learns of Alphys's failed experiments (amalgamates) with determination and also about the origin of Flowey. After exploring the True Lab and talking to Alphys, she gains the confidence to reveal the truth about her experiments to the rest of the Underground. While attempting to leave, Frisk receives a phone call in the elevator from an unknown voice. The elevator immediately and forcibly brings Frisk to New Home.
Barrier
Flowey screenshot captured monsters Flowey restrains Frisk's friends before the final battle. After returning to the throne room and confronting Asgore again, the pre-fight dialogue is interrupted by Toriel, who stops Asgore from fighting Frisk. Toriel is immediately followed by the other main characters who encourage everyone to get along. However, in a surprise twist, Papyrus reveals that it was "a tiny flower" who told him to bring everyone there.
Immediately after this reveal, Flowey appears, having again stolen the SOULs of the six other humans. He attempts to kill Frisk, but Undyne, Toriel, Alphys, Asgore, Sans, and Papyrus use their power to block Flowey's finishing blows. Directly after this, all of the Underground's monsters arrive to encourage Frisk in the fight against Flowey. However, Flowey reveals that this is what he wanted all along so that he could absorb the souls of all the monsters in the Underground along with the six human SOULs.
Asriel Dreemurr screenshot introduction ASRIEL DREEMURR's intro right before the final battle. Due to the immense power gained from the six human SOULs and all of the monster SOULs, Flowey can transform into his true form, and just before the fight begins it is revealed that he is actually Asriel Dreemurr.
During this fight, Frisk is invincible, and any hit that would normally result in death instead causes the heart to split, but reform back together. The first time this happens, it is accompanied by the text "but it refused." After stalling for long enough, Asriel transforms again. At this point, Frisk can feel the souls of Toriel, Asgore, Alphys, Undyne, Papyrus, and Sans within Asriel and the ACT button changes to SAVE to represent the act of freeing everyone's souls. This is accomplished by completing a short sequence of ACT options to restore the memory of each lost soul after selecting the said lost soul of a chosen character.
After saving each monster, Frisk realizes that there is still one more person to save. After choosing to save "someone else," Asriel's memories of the first human (who strongly resembled Frisk) begin to play in a slideshow style. It is then revealed this "someone else" is Asriel himself. After this, Asriel starts to feel the love the monsters feel for Frisk through the souls he has absorbed, and slowly loses the will to fight as he is overcome with his fear of dying alone.
After reverting to his child form, Asriel learns Frisk's name. He apologizes for hurting everybody, and Frisk can choose to forgive or not forgive Asriel. Regardless of the choice made, Asriel destroys the barrier using the power of all of the SOULs before releasing them. Knowing that he will turn back to a flower without the power of the SOULs to sustain him, Asriel says one last goodbye to Frisk before leaving. At this point, there is a choice to hug Asriel or do nothing.
Freedom
Menu (Full) soundtrack The start menu after the barrier has been broken. After the scene with Asriel finishes, Frisk wakes up in front of Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys and Asgore. While the monsters remember little about Flowey and nothing about his incarnation as Asriel, they do know Frisk's name. At this point, Frisk can backtrack through the Underground and talk to the other monsters, before returning to the surface.
If Frisk backtracks through the Ruins, they can find Asriel tending to the Golden Flowers. Asriel asks about Frisk's desire to travel up Mt. Ebott in the first place. Receiving no answer, Asriel lists off foolishness or fate as possible motives, but comes to the conclusion that "only you (Frisk) know the answer."
True Pacifist Route screenshot ending photo Photo shown if Frisk says that they have places to go. After passing through the final door to the surface, Frisk leaves the Underground with their friends. Asgore offers Frisk the chance to be the monsters' ambassador to the humans. Most of the main monster cast then leave, except for Toriel, who asks about Frisk's plans. At this point, Frisk can choose to stay with Toriel or to go elsewhere.
After choosing to stay with Toriel, the ending scene shows Frisk sleeping in a bed, and Toriel bringing a slice of pie to Frisk's bedroom.
Otherwise, if Frisk has "places to go," Toriel ends their conversation with "Frisk. "See you around."" As Toriel leaves, Frisk turns north and does not watch her. The game ends with a group photo of the main monster cast with Frisk in the middle.

Keys: 6th soul, sixth SOUL, Gun-hat, 6th SOUL, Puppy, Clover, Pardner, sixth soul, Gunhat, My King, Hatted Human
Clover is the playable character and main protagonist of Undertale Yellow. They are the seventh human to fall into the Underground and the sixth SOUL gathered by Asgore Dreemurr in the Pacifist endings. Embarking on a quest to locate the previous five humans who climbed up Mt. Ebott and were never seen again, Clover ventures into the Underground.
Notably, unlike Frisk, Clover does not seem to have any connection with the first human, aside from knowing about them being missing. Due to this, the game automatically uses Clover as the protagonist's name instead of prompting them to name the fallen child.
Clover is a human child of fair complexion and short brown hair. Official art portrays Clover with yellow eyes.
Clover wears a brown long-sleeved t-shirt beneath a dark brown vest and dark blue pants, presumably denim, girded by a dark reddish-brown belt with a gold buckle. They wear a pair of brown shoes and a light brown cowboy hat with a dark brown hatband. Around their neck, Clover sports a yellow bandana with a blue dot pattern (though some official art depicts it as a checkered blue and yellow bandana).
Background
Clover's background is left ambiguous; however, they were most likely a child. This is proven when their main reason for jumping into the Underground was for the five humans preceding them, but is also strange, as he uses a gun. While never explicitly stated, it is implied that Clover may have an abusive or overly demanding family, this may have resulted in them becoming independent at a young age. It's also possible that Clover is somehow used to arguments and prefers to resolve conflict, as shown at the end of the Pacifist Route where Clover seems to be trying to drown out the argument between Martlet, Ceroba, and Starlo and ultimately gives up their SOUL to resolve it.
Personality
While Clover is largely a silent protagonist (though much less so than Frisk), elements of their personality are shown or implied at several points. In notable contrast with Frisk, most dialogue options for Clover generally depict what Clover is actually saying, as opposed to Frisk where a choice would imply dialogue. The dialogue itself is actually quite interesting; there will often be exclamation marks or word choice that imply further personality. It seems that Clover is fairly nonchalant throughout their journey, It also seems notable that there will sometimes be just one dialogue choice for Clover, possibly indicating that Clover has stronger willpower than Frisk and that their desires can unknowingly supersede the will of the player (as of yet, the relationship between Clover and the player is ambiguous). This may indicate that Clover is less indecisive than Frisk and that the choices that Clover would canonically make within the world of Undertale Yellow are less numerous because Clover has more of a solid personality than Frisk does. There is also usually an option for silence for Clover, so dialogue options for Clover are even more limited than what one might think. Generally, Clover has a strong sense of justice and a drive to do what they perceive to be the right thing, with some variations depending on the route. It can also be inferred that Clover has a strong sense of humor, as many descriptions and dialogue options are somehow comedic or joking, an example being telling Flowey that their name is "Gun-Hat". Clover can also be shown to be largely selfless and sometimes very determined to achieve a particular goal. This is most strongly represented at the end of the Pacifist Route, where Clover gives up their SOUL to resolve the conflict between Ceroba, Martlet, and Starlo. Their soul is yellow, meaning JUSTICE.
Main Story Pacifist Route
Clover falls into the Ruins and becomes guided by Toriel. Toriel takes them through the original lever puzzles shown in Undertale. When at the second lever puzzle, switching the tampered lever causes Clover to fall into the Dark Ruins. Clover soon meets Flowey, who introduces the mechanics of dodging and saving to Clover.
From there, they traverse the Ruins with Flowey in a peaceful manner, sparing every monster along the way, and solving the puzzles. Eventually, they meet Dalv at the end of the Dark Ruins and have a battle with him. Dalv quickly realizes that Clover isn't there to harm him and Clover becomes friends with Dalv. Dalv escorts Clover to the exit of the Dark Ruins.
After leaving the Dark Ruins, Clover ends up in Snowdin, before shortly running into Martlet fixing a puzzle. Clover explores Snowdin, ending up in the Honeydew Resort, but Clover soon encounters Martlet once again at her lookout station. This forces a confrontation between the two, resulting in a battle. Being unable to bring herself to hurt Clover, Martlet ends the battle and ends up offering to guide them back to the surface. Together, they board the U.G. Aviator, and ride through Waterfall, unfortunately crashing into the Caves. As a result, Clover becomes separated from Martlet.
At the end of the Caves, Clover ends up in the Dunes, and traverses through its dangers before Martlet catches up with them once more. Now together, they they enter the Wild East, where Clover is taken by the Feisty Five and Martlet becomes jailed. During Clover's Deputy Training, they get the Wild Revolver after Starlo buys it for them from Blackjack. After Clover's Deputy Training, Starlo gets told off by his posse, resulting in a showdown between Clover and Starlo. Clover outlasts Starlo before Ceroba arrives, and Ceroba berates Starlo for attempting to take Clover's life. Starlo goes to apologize to the other members of the Feisty Five. Afterwards, Martlet approaches Clover, now free, and informs them of her departure to Snowdin. With this in mind, Clover nears the entrance into the Steamworks where Ceroba and Starlo wait. Ceroba explains her daughter Kanako's disappearance to Clover and asks Clover to accompany her, while Starlo stays back to watch the town. Now teamed-up, Clover and Ceroba traverse the Steamworks, solving multiple puzzles and encountering many robots. This includes AXIS, one of Chujin's many inventions, whom the duo are forced to avoid on multiple occasions. Eventually, AXIS manages to corner Clover, resulting in a conflict where Ceroba is locked out of the room.
Eventually, Clover outlasts AXIS, and Ceroba manages to enter the room. Clover defeats AXIS by draining him of his battery. Afterwards, Ceroba presents the machine you made at the beginning of the Steamworks, of which AXIS falls in love with. Before AXIS takes the machine away, he whitelists Ceroba and Clover to prevent him from attacking them again.
After beating AXIS, Clover and Ceroba make their way to the elevator at the end of Steamworks. However, Starlo quickly arrives to confront Ceroba on items found within her house, and Clover is taken back to the Wild East by Ed. There, Clover reunites with Martlet, and The Feisty Four reveal to Clover that Ceroba had ulterior motives the whole time, which causes Martlet and Clover to investigate her home. There they find a secret room underneath the table and as well find tapes on Chujin, who had been working to create a mass population of Boss Monsters using a special serum extracted from a Monster with a human SOUL.
After finding Ceroba's secret, Clover and Martlet together go to New Home, and find Starlo confronting Ceroba. The situation quickly escalates and Starlo tells Martlet to escape with Clover. Ceroba reacts quickly and attacks Martlet and Starlo, before initiating a fight with Clover. After defeating Ceroba, Clover has a choice of either sparing her, or killing her. If Clover chooses to spare Ceroba, both Starlo and Martlet wake up, and talk of Clover's safety with Ceroba. Slowly, Clover realizes the inability for them to leave, and is shown giving their ITEMS to the trio. Finally, Clover willingly gives up their SOUL, becoming the sixth human SOUL captured, as well as ending the Pacifist Route.
Genocide Route
Similarly, like in the Pacifist Route, Clover falls into the Ruins and meets Toriel, who guides them. However, as a result of one of the puzzles being broken, Clover falls into the Dark Ruins. Instead of sparing all of the enemies encountered, Clover instead kills them all, resulting in many different changes within the game.
After killing Dalv and the other monsters residing in the Dark Ruins, Clover enters Snowdin, where most of the residents have likely evacuated. Flowey tells them that nobody will know what they did in the Dark Ruins and can pretend like nothing happened. But once again, they kill everyone they encounter, excluding Martlet, who manages to escape. Clover takes the U.G. Aviator, which once again, crashes into the Caves. After exiting the Caves, Clover enters the Dunes, where the slaughter continues. Before reaching Wild East, Martlet confronts Clover and tries to empathize with them, however Clover ignores and threatens her at gunpoint, causing her to retreat once more.
Clover enters the Wild East, encountering Starlo, who challenges them to a duel. Starlo, no matter if he wins or loses, gets shot down by Clover. Ceroba, after escorting the other monsters out of the Wild East, comes back to bring Starlo back, only to find him on his deathbed. After which, Ceroba attacks Clover. Ceroba still eventually falls to Clover, and they continue their journey to the Steamworks.
During the Vengeance Route, Clover's desire to uphold justice manifests in the form of a desire for VENGEANCE for the deaths of the five humans, particularly against Asgore. Clover primarily becomes a lot more serious and impatient, as is especially demonstrated by how they forego their usual comedic descriptions for those that are more factual and direct.
Though Clover is much more aggressive, their violent behavior is only directed to those that they consider to be 'enemies' (being monsters which either attack them or otherwise hinder their progress). As such, they are willing to let people go provided they surrender or are not an obstacle (this can best be seen by how Clover refuses to fight or kill Mo in the Steamworks, even while holding Mo at gunpoint). However, this quality slowly diminishes over the course of the route, being lost completely during the Axis encounter. Furthermore, it is during this encounter with Axis that Clover's complete desire for vengeance, hate, and rage are put on display, as seen when their LOVE increases significantly after Axis regretfully reveals how he had to neutralize the previous human before he ultimately meets his destruction at Clover's hands.
Flowey arrives just in time to see the aftermath of the battle and begins to see Clover's dramatic shift in personality. At this point, Clover outright ignores Flowey and quickly moves along to Hotland. Flowey tries to put some sense into Clover, but they're quick to dismiss it. This dramatic turn of events, combined with Clover's vengeful side, anger, and impatience only confirms what they believe in their mind to be right: All monsters are their enemies.
This rage continues on into their battle with Martlet, who states that she has been taught all her life that humans are dangerous yet she chose to try to see the good in them, which proved all for naught in the end. After Martlet injects herself with a determination serum later revealed to have been stolen from Alphys, a battle between her and Clover ensues. However, in the end, Clover defeats Martlet; additionally, the aftereffects of the serum cause Martlet to fall down and turn to dust, maxing out Clover's LOVE.
Flowey then appears and reprimands Clover for their actions, telling them that the Castle will now be on full lockdown. In the heat of the moment, Flowey demands for them to destroy the Castle walls and to get him "his souls," which ultimately confirms Flowey's true objective: to gather all six Souls and become God. This slip of Flowey's tongue is the last straw to break Clover's back, fully confirming in their head that ALL monsters are evil, including Flowey. With all the LOVE at their disposal, Clover is now able to override Flowey's control over the SAVE file and prevent him from attacking them directly. He tries to escape, but to no avail. Now helpless, Flowey finally snaps and laughs maniacally, yelling at Clover about how much he hates them, how miserable he was around them, and how much he loved watching them die over and over. In a fit of rage, Clover kills Flowey with eight shots from their revolver.
With Flowey, Martlet, and the majority of monsterkind dead, Clover's final objective is to kill the king and avenge the other five humans who had their SOULs stolen. Clover makes their way through the capital and into the king's castle to find Asgore somberly staring out the window from his main garden. He looks Clover's way and explains how he wishes that he and them could handle matters more peacefully. Asgore finally finishes by saying that Clover's fate has been sealed ever since they've entered his kingdom and launches his trident at them, only for it to uselessly shatter against Clover's soul. They charge up all the Determination in their soul and fire a powerful beam that incinerates Asgore and his garden, turning him to dust. After Asgore's death, Clover claims his Boss Soul and makes one last trek to the Barrier where they free the other five Human Souls. At this point, to Clover, justice has been served and the monsters are no more. They leave the Underground for good with the five Human Souls and aren't seen again.
Abilities
Unlike Frisk, Clover (for the majority of the game) does not have the highest amount of Determination in the Underground, so Flowey saves the game on their behalf.
Their starting equipment is composed of the Toy Gun and the Worn Hat, which provide no changes to AT or DF and cannot be manually changed. Instead, they can be equipped with different kinds of ammunition or accessories respectively. In Undertale, getting the Yellow flag in the "Ball" game prompts the text that says "Your sure-fire accuracy put an end to the mayhem of 'Ball.'" This suggests that Clover has adequate experience with gunfire or ranged weapons, which is likely the reason for the fight mechanics having a target. Clover is also able to run if the X key is held, similarly to Deltarune's Kris.
As manifested in the Pacifist fight against Ceroba, Clover has the power to fire attacks of their own during the enemy turn (as seen in 'yellow soul modes' during Undertale and Deltarune.) It appears to take on the mechanics found in Deltarune, with smaller bullets able to be fired to clear attacks along with larger, more powerful, charged attacks. Along with this, Clover also gains the ability to 'dash' through what would otherwise be unavoidable attacks. In Genocide, this power manifests as well, but in a much stronger form than during the Pacifist run. Clover's increased LV lets them replace their charged shots with a devastating charged beam. By the time Clover meets Asgore, the laser able to kill Asgore in only one shot, destroying the throne behind him and leaving a massive hole in the wall of the throne room. Finally, during a Neutral run, this power manifests once again during the fight against Flowey.
Also seen in the Pacifist and Genocide fights, Clover has the ability to reach out and access monsters' memories. They use this against Ceroba in Pacifist each time they damage part of her mask, accessing her 'darkest memories' and learning the truth behind her motivation for their SOUL, as well as the truth behind Kanako's fate. In the Genocide route, they use this ability against Martlet, scanning her memories for a reason to hate her, and presumably also a justified reason to kill her. Unlike with the shoot and dash abilities, this does not appear in Neutral.
Possibly growing resistance against the player - In the GENOCIDE ROUTE, Clover might grow in power and even resist control of the player through cutscenes (hinted), at the entrance of the Steamworks gate requiring a code, after killing Ceroba (boss fight) and Starlo in a gun duel or optionally going to the towns for their items. Flowey pops up out of the ground attempting to help Clover but in result of that, Flowey has no idea. Clover quickly draws out their "Wild Revolver" and shoots the passcode pad, without the control of the player. Causing the gate to malfunction and ultimately open itself. Flowey allows it as it just works on it's own. Later on, Clover heads inside there encountering a generator turned off and puzzles to solve from the left to the right to open the front gate. Clover straight up shoots the generator with clear impatience (that did not really work) and Clover walks to the front gate, pointing at the gate demanding Flowey to open the gate. Flowey states not being able to open it, but Clover pushes in, result of that Flowey uses their vines emitted from the ceiling to push the gate downwards. Flowey reminds Clover not to boss them around like that again reminded them about their SAVE FILE, and in response Clover just looks back staring at them.

Keys: FLOWERY, Weed., Flowey the Flower, Flowey, Flowery
Flowey (/ˈflaʊi/)[2] is the first major character that the protagonist encounters in Undertale. Flowey serves as the main antagonist for the Neutral and True Pacifist routes, and can be considered a deuteragonist for the Genocide Route. He provides an introduction to the mechanics of encounters by sharing "friendliness pellets," which are actually harmful bullets, revealing his philosophy of "KILL or BE KILLED." He serves as the final boss of the Neutral Route.
Flowey has the appearance of a conscious golden flower. His structure has a white androecium, six yellow petals, and a light-green stem. Flowey can contort his face to show various expressions and can mimic the faces and voices of other characters. He mimics Toriel and Asgore in some situations, as well as his old self at the end of the Genocide Route. He also mimics the protagonist's face before the Neutral Route's final battle.
Initially, Flowey operates under a facade of friendliness and politeness. He often greets the protagonist with southern slang, such as "Howdy!", calls himself "your best friend," and, like his father, appends polite words such as "golly" to the ends of his sentences. Whenever he drops this guise of friendliness, he often calls the protagonist an "idiot."
As a soulless flower, Flowey is neither human nor monster. Because he has no SOUL, he is unable to feel compassion or love, and primarily seeks enjoyment from an intricate and disturbing curiosity that stems from his ability to "reshape the world" by his determination. He retains his memories between SAVEs because he used to be able to SAVE himself. It is revealed in Genocide route that, in spite of his emotional numbness, he was not always amoral and initially used his SAVEs to help others; yet as time passed and his inability to feel continued to persist, all the while he was trying to sate his evergrowing curiosity, Flowey – reluctantly, at first – decided to commit murder, telling himself that he had to know what would happen.[3]
In the current day, Flowey has a malevolent and cruel disposition, berating the protagonist for not following his "kill or be killed" philosophy. Despite this, he also criticizes the protagonist at the end of the Ruins if they killed any monsters.[4] He is manipulative, devious, a cunning planner and subtle if the circumstances require it.[5]
When a situation emerges that Flowey has no control over, he may act in frustration or even sheer cowardice, the latter being shown when he kills his former father to appease the protagonist in a vain attempt to save himself in the Genocide Route's conclusion.
Main Story Ruins Start
Flowey screenshot introduction Flowey showing his true colors before attempting to kill the protagonist. Flowey introduces the concept of the Bullet Board and calls his bullets "friendliness pellets."
If the protagonist dodges three times, his friendly act slips and he hypocritically snaps at the protagonist for leeching off of him. The background music lowers by one semitone each time the bullets are dodged, before slowing, lowering the pitch, and stopping entirely. Before his third attack, Flowey questions the protagonist's mental capacity[6] and bellows in frustration "RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!!" before quickly looking directly at his text and changing the "BULLETS!!!" in the speech bubble to "friendliness pellets." If the protagonist runs into his bullets, he announces his central philosophy.[7] Regardless of whether the protagonist dodged Flowey's bullets or not, he then attempts to kill the protagonist with an unavoidable ring of bullets, but Toriel intervenes and saves the protagonist.
If the protagonist killed Flowey on a previous Neutral Route (or if they aborted the Genocide Route, even if they spared him), he does not interact with them again until the protagonist reaches New Home again. If the protagonist spared him, he appears in the beginning of the Ruins again and advises them on what to do. If the protagonist gained EXP, he reminds them not to kill anyone.[8] If the protagonist gained no EXP, he reminds them to befriend everyone.[9] Resetting the game before completing a Neutral Route causes him to repeat his "tutorial" after assuming that the protagonist is pretending not to know who he is.[10] Resetting again causes Flowey to become annoyed and question if the protagonist has anything better to do.
If the protagonist resets a Genocide Route at any point after exiting the Ruins and before the route's completion, Flowey says "Really, ? Well, do what you will. I'll be waiting for you!" before leaving.[11]
Neutral Route, if last time did not kill Flowey [If they have earned EXP] Hey. Remember. DON'T kill anyone. ... I can't believe this is a REAL thing I have to remind you. Hee hee hee... Good luck! [If they have not earned EXP] Remember... THIS time, you've GOT to become friends with everyone. OK? If you DON'T, you'll be miserable FOREVER. And we wouldn't want THAT, would we? No... We just want you to be happy, right? Good luck. Aborted Genocide Route Really, ? Well, do what you will. I'll be waiting for you! Ruins End
At the exit to the Ruins, Flowey judges the protagonist's actions up to that point. Flowey does not appear to judge the protagonist if he was killed in a previous Neutral Route or if the protagonist aborted the Genocide Route in a previous playthrough.
If The Protagonist Spared Toriel Clever. Verrrryyy clever. You think you're really smart, don't you? In this world, it's kill or be killed. So you were able to play by your own rules. You spared the life of a single person. Hee hee hee... [If they have earned EXP] Froggit, Whimsun. Vegetoid, Loox. Migosp, Moldsmal. Think about those names. Do you think any of those monsters have families? Do you think any of them have friends? Each one could have been someone else's Toriel. Selfish brat. Somebody is dead because of you. [If they have not earned EXP] I bet you feel really great. You didn't kill anybody this time. But what will you do if you meet a relentless killer? You'll die and you'll die and you'll die. Until you tire of trying. What will you do then? Will you kill out of frustration? Or will you give up entirely on this world... ... and let ME inherit the power to control it? I am the prince of this world's future. Don't worry, my little monarch, my plan isn't regicide. This is SO much more interesting. [If the protagonist killed Toriel before] But don't act so cocky. I know what you did. You murdered her. And then you went back, because you regretted it. Ha ha ha ha... You naive idiot. Do you think you are the only one with that power? The power to reshape the world... Purely by your own determination. The ability to play God! The ability to "SAVE." I thought I was the only one with that power. But... I can't SAVE anymore. Apparently YOUR desires for this world override MINE. Well well. Enjoy that power while you can. I'll be watching. If The Protagonist Killed Toriel [First time] Hee hee hee... I hope you like your choice. After all, it's not as if you can go back and change fate. In this world, it's kill or be killed. That old hag thought she could break the rules. She tried so hard to save you humans. But when it came down to it... Hee hee... SHE COULDN'T EVEN SAVE HERSELF. WHAT AN IDIOT!! [Second time] Heheheheh. You just can't get enough, can you!? ... How many more times will you kill her? Ha ha ha ha ha... You disgusting animal. You didn't even TRY to spare her. [Subsequent times] Wow, you really can't get enough. You kind of remind me of myself. [If Toriel was spared before] Wow, you're utterly repulsive. You spared her life... Then you decided that just wasn't interesting enough for you. So you murdered her just to see what would happen. You killed her out of boredom. Truly disgusting... [If Flowey has already mentioned SAVING before; this is his last line] Hee hee... If Genocide Route Requirements Are Met Flowey appears even if he was killed in a previous Neutral Route. Hahaha... You're not really human, are you? No. You're empty inside. Just like me. In fact... You're , right? We're still inseparable, after all these years... Listen. I have a plan to become all powerful. Even more powerful than you and your stolen soul. Let's destroy everything in this wretched world. Everyone, everything in these worthless memories... Let's turn 'em all to dust. An audio clip then plays of Flowey exclaiming "Hmm... That's a wonderful idea!" If Toriel Has Not Been Fought Error [Unused] Flowey's speaking sound is heard repeatedly and the dialogue box cannot be closed with "[CONFIRM]", effectively softlocking the game[12] Neutral Route
If you let me live... I'll come back. I'll kill you. I'll kill everyone. I'll kill everyone you love.
Flowey, if spared after his boss battle.
After the Ruins, Flowey follows the protagonist from a distance throughout their adventure. If the protagonist backtracks in some areas, they can briefly find Flowey burrowing back into the ground at the edge of the screen.[13]
Echo Flower screenshot Flowey message Flowey's message on an Echo Flower if Toriel was killed. Flowey also leaves a message on an Echo Flower in the vertical room before the bridge in Waterfall that changes if the protagonist spared or killed Toriel.[14][15]
Flowey screenshot absorbing SOULs Flowey absorbs the human SOULs. If the protagonist decides to kill Asgore, Flowey appears and destroys Asgore's SOUL. If the protagonist spares Asgore, Flowey appears and kills Asgore himself. Either way, he absorbs the six bottled human SOULs and transforms into Photoshop Flowey. Then, the game crashes and Flowey's battle begins after opening the game again.
After he is defeated, the protagonist has the chance to spare or kill Flowey. Flowey requires the protagonist to offer him mercy thirteen times before he flees, unsure why the protagonist is being nice to him.[16]
If the protagonist loads a save or finishes another Neutral Route, Flowey absorbs the six bottled human SOULs again, but does not fight the protagonist as he knows the six SOULs would rebel again.[17] Instead, the protagonist is able to exit the room and receive Sans's Neutral Route phone call.
Well. You DID do what I told you. I guess it's up to me to get you a REAL happy ending.
Flowey
Flowey battle spared Flowey's reaction if spared. If spared after his battle, Flowey gives advice to the protagonist on what to do during subsequent Neutral Routes.[18] If the protagonist gained EXP before his battle, he asks the protagonist to prove his philosophy wrong, as he thinks it may be meaningless.[19] Flowey also offers unique dialogue if the protagonist only killed Asgore and tells the protagonist that they wasted everyone's time.[20] If the protagonist earned no EXP, yet they have not met all the requirements for the True Pacifist Route, he mentions that the protagonist should get closer to one of the main characters, depending on who they previously befriended.[21]
The protagonist can then recover their previous SAVE file and follow his advice.
Flowey screenshot death Genocide The protagonist killing Flowey at the end of the Genocide Route If the protagonist kills Flowey, he recognizes that the protagonist can kill[22] before becoming "just a regular flower."
If he was killed after his battle, Flowey does not leave a message for the protagonist after the credits close, and, after a reset, does not appear until after the resolution of Asgore's battle. Flowey then berates the protagonist for thinking that killing him solved anything. He explains that he was brought back when the protagonist loaded their SAVE file and that they still cannot achieve their happy ending.[23]
If the protagonist aborts the Genocide Route, Flowey becomes upset with them.[24] However, he then proclaims that the protagonist just wanted to see everything in the Underground and will eventually return to their malicious ways.[25]
Trivia Flowey and Mettaton represent the two characters with voice clips; Flowey says "That's a wonderful idea!" at the end of the Ruins on a Genocide Route, plus two unused audio clips. This phrase is a higher-pitched clip of an old McDonald's commercial originating from the 1960s.[26] There are other clips within the commercial which also match voice and sound clips within the game. Examples are times 2:47 and 3:05, where Photoshop Flowey's "hurt" sounds originate.[27] The two unused audio clips are "Triple" and "Shake" which also originated from the commercial as well. Flowey's laugh is not a new asset and can be recognized in other media. It was originally a Warner Bros. sound effect mostly used in Pink Panther cartoons and has appeared in titles such as the PlayStation title Tomba![28] and the Homestuck soundtrack The Lordling, also by Toby Fox. If the player attempts to name the fallen child "Flowey," the screen reads "I already CHOSE that name" and prevents the name from being used. Flowey's facial expression when he gets hit by Toriel's fire magic at the beginning of the game, depicting his eyes bulging and open, shocked mouth, is similar to Asgore's face when he also gets hit by Toriel's fire before fighting Asriel in the True Pacifist Route. He also has a shocked expression seen for a split-second when he notices the fire magic getting near him. Flowey shares the same color palette as his former self Asriel: white, green, yellow, and black. In Hard Mode, Flowey appears alongside the Annoying Dog after the protagonist finishes Toriel's boss fight. In a joke thread on Starmen.Net, when Undertale was called "UnderBound 2," it was revealed that Flowey was planned to be the reincarnation of "Face," who was the protagonist of the non-existent EarthBound hack, UnderGround.[29] The artbook mentions that Flowey was partially inspired by Face from the "NES Godzilla Creepypasta" written by Cosbydaf. Flowey's character might be inspired by flowers from EarthBound, which Toby did include in one of his hacks. Halloween Hack screenshot talking flower A screenshot of talking flowers from Toby Fox's Halloween Hack. These flowers are seen in Earthbound. Flowey has the most battle sprites of any character; he has dozens of expressions that he uses in the battle room. In the Japanese translation, Flowey uses "boku" and refers to a person with "kimi" alongside his past self Asriel.[30] When Flowey surrounds the protagonist with a circle of friendliness pellets during his initial encounter, he commands them to "Die." This is noticeably written in a font that is a no-spacing variant of the Korean typeface Gulim Che in bold, making him, Sans, Papyrus, and W. D. Gaster the only characters with the ability to speak in a typeface different from 8bitoperator JVE, the standard typeface of Undertale. It should be noted that Flowey still usually speaks in 8bitoperator; he only speaks in this font once. Despite his insistence that he can't feel love or compassion without a SOUL, Flowey's words when opening the game for the first time after a True Pacifist run, as well as his words and actions from the Undertale Alarm Clock app, imply that he does have some capacity to care about other people. In the former, he pleads the player to not reset everything again and let everyone stay happy. In the latter, he finds Toriel passed out after a party and leaves her a glass of water, mirroring an earlier instance where he moved her to bed and left her a glass of water after seeing her collapsed in the Ruins.[31][32] This implies that it was not simply the events of the True Pacifist route that caused this compassion. There is actually some truth to this as actual plants are able to feel emotions in a limited capacity through their senses. The fallen human's name does not appear in the first encounter with Flowey nor his monologues in New Home on the Genocide Route. This trait is shared with the various monsters in New Home on a Neutral Route. If the protagonist spares Flowey, reloads their SAVE, and triggers any neutral endings after seeing one the first time, Flowey talks about several topics such as wondering why they want to be friends with him, if they should start a "Flowey Fan Club", how he knows Papyrus and Sans, and if they are bored and only wants to see what he says. If the protagonist reloads their save and triggers a neutral ending for the sixth time, he asks if "[they] have anything better to do". The last sentence is also said by Asriel after his different dialogue has been exhausted in the True Pacifist Route epilogue, the Annoying Dog at the end of Hard Mode, and by Flowey as well before being interrupted by the Annoying Dog that it had already said that. In the PlayStation release of Undertale, the name of the PlayStation Trophy for obtaining all the other Undertale trophies is called "Don't You Have Anything Better to Do?" In the Undertale Kickstarter Trailer, while Flowey talks about combat, he says "murder" before the text changes to "fight," along with his cackling face changing to normal. This is likely a reference to how in game, Flowey changes the word "BULLETS" to "friendliness pellets" his first tutorial encounter.[33] In Papyrus's 2nd Q&A, Flowey makes an appearance and talks in one of the questions given to Papyrus, mainly on the question that misspells Flowey's name. Flowey is the primary antagonist from Undertale that reappeared in Undertale Yellow. He is the deuteragonist throughout the Neutral and Genocide Routes and a supporting character in the Pacifist route, appearing at various points to give his commentary on recent events and save the game. He also reprises his role as the final boss of the Neutral Route. While he is the deuteragonist, he also is the primary antagonist (along with Ceroba) of the game's story.
Flowey's appearance is unchanged in Undertale Yellow: he is a sentient golden flower with six yellow petals, a white androecium, and a light-green stem. He can make a variety of facial expressions.
Personality
Flowey, unlike in Undertale, is nice to Clover and helps them, following them once they fell in the Dark Ruins. As Clover seemingly doesn't have enough determination like Frisk, Flowey owns their save file and saves the game for Clover. Flowey is also focused on getting you to Asgore, not wanting to bother with anyone else, as it disturbs his true goals of acquiring the human souls for himself.
At the end of the Genocide Route, Flowey finally snaps at Clover for aiming to kill him and reveals that he actually always hated them, and only kept reviving them so he could gain satisfaction from watching them suffer over and over again.
Main Story After Clover falls into the Dark Ruins, they run into Flowey, who after a tutorial on how to dodge attacks, promises to help them in their quest to reach Asgore and rescue the five missing children. From there on, Flowey use his SAVE to keep Clover from dying for too long, and reminding them of their goal. However, he gets annoyed if you keep saving at the same spot for a while, and never shows his face should Clover have anyone following them.
Neutral Route
After following Clover around and helping them out, Clover makes it to the UG Apartment rooftops, following a letter they received in the Steamworks. Flowey tries to tell Clover its a trap, but relents when Clover wants to see Martlet again. Upon reaching Martlet, she reveals she had a plan to fight Clover if they were dangerous, but relents and asks Clover if they want to live with her, with the dialogue slightly changing depending on Clover's LOVE. Clover can say "Sounds good", "Wouldn't hurt", "...", or "...Okay", but no matter what you choose, Flowey will kill Martlet and then kill Clover, absorbing their SOUL either out of frustration for Martlet derailing his plans, or to betray Clover should their LOVE be high enough.
Inside Flowey, he reveals to have sabotaged the puzzles of the Ruins to separate Clover from Toriel and the usual path to New Home as it never worked out. He then tries to absorb Clover in combat before Clover eventually stumbles upon a hidden part of his mind, one based on his countless loops. Flowey then screws with Clover by pretending to be Martlet before having "her" melt. Clover then sees the flower in his "Meta" form, before containing to fight. He eventually gets bored of fighting, and realizing Clover won't give up, decides to reset everything to before Clover lands in the Underground, in the hopes of getting a "different ending".
If you beat the neutral route and reload your game to meet up with Flowey, you will skip the small tutorial that Flowey gives you in the Dark Ruins. In subsequent Neutral runs, Flowey grows more and more upset how nothing seems to work with Clover. He eventually comes to the realization that Clover is not the one he needs, and decides to abandon the façade he uses with Clover once done with them.
Pacifist Route
Flowey mainly disappears due to not showing himself in front of the other characters, though after Clover and Martlet learn of of Chujin's secrets and Ceroba's plan, appears to laugh at Clover when alone for not heeding his warning about the fox before revealing that he still supports Clover on stopping her. When Clover thinks to themselves about what needs to be done, Flowey can be heard trying to stop them, reminding Clover of their original goal.
After Clover sacrifices their SOUL to give to their friends, he can be heard being somewhat disappointed in Clover's choice, but allows the child to rest, stating there is always another human before saying farewell. After the credits, he discusses if he should try again for a different outcome, with the option to either RESET or wait for the next human (the reset or wait is up to the player).
If Clover kills Ceroba at the end of the fight, they then confront and fall to Asgore. Flowey shows up and decides to give up on using Clover and opts not to RESET, instead waiting for another human to fall down so he can become god.
Genocide Route
During this route, Flowey is supportive of Clovers actions up until they reach the Steamworks, at which point he starts getting annoyed at Clover's insistence of destroying all the robots in the facility and telling them to hurry up getting to the castle.
After killing Axis with a charged beam attack, Flowey is initially shocked, but believes this can be used against Asgore. However, he becomes upset and Clover's "angst" and lets slip about his former self. He then calms down and tries to reiterate he's on Clover's side.
After defeating Martlet, Flowey shows up and berates Clover over how their actions thus far have caused the Underground to go into a full on lock-down, saying that it makes Clover's goal of getting to the castle near impossible. When his goal of getting the human SOULs slips out as he angrily demands Clover use their power to attack the castle, Clover turns on him and attempts to attack him. Flowey tries to RESET, seeing this timeline as another "dead end". However, with superior determination, Clover easily takes away Flowey's ability to SAVE. Recognizing his fate, Flowey instead resorts to spewing as much venom as he can at Clover, stating he always hated Clover and that the human is destined to die at the hands of the King. He spends his last moments manically laughing as Clover shoots him apart.
- #36Toriel.
Keys: Torino Dreemur, Queen of all monsters, Old lady, Tori, Toriel, Queen of monsterkind, Asgore’s clone
Toriel is the second major character the protagonist meets in Undertale. She saves the protagonist from Flowey and guides them through the Ruins, wishing to protect and to teach them to avoid the dangers of the Underground. Toriel is the former Queen of the monsters, the ex-wife of Asgore, the mother of Asriel, the adoptive mother of the first human, and the first boss, as she guards the Ruins exit.
Toriel is a Boss Monster whose head resembles a white-furred Nubian Goat, structured with floppy ears and tiny horns. She has a pair of visible fangs and long eyelashes, and her irises have a dark red tint. She has an anthropomorphic body, with paws at the end of her limbs. She wears a long purple robe with white sleeves and the Delta Rune on the chest. Toriel can also be seen with reading glasses, when reading a book on snail facts.
Personality
Toriel is a kind monster that acts as a protective mother figure for the protagonist. She is sincere in expressing her love through words and actions, such as when she was married to Asgore.[1] She employs tough love on the protagonist and Asgore. Toriel cares for children and was excited to become a mother.[2]
Toriel's hobbies includes baking, reading, writing puns, bug-hunting,[3] and tending to flowers. She enjoys baking Butterscotch Pie, as well as her favorite, Snail Pie. She has read many books in her home, and has a journal full of puns.[4] She enjoyed puns even before meeting Sans.[5]
Toriel is said to be intelligent[6] and can come off as intimidating when she is serious.[7] Toriel is meticulous in her goals, and was often referred by her title when she was the queen.[8]
Toriel aspires to be a teacher. She offers instructions on puzzles[9] and prepares a curriculum for the protagonist.[10] In the True Pacifist Ending Credits, she stands outside a school and, in the Family Ending of the Neutral Route, she starts her own.
Her full name is Toriel Dreemurr, she is also one of the three known Boss Monsters and a member of the Dreemurr family along with Asgore and Asriel.
Main Story Before the events of Undertale, Toriel was married to King Asgore and had a son, Asriel. When the first human fell into the Underground, she adopted them as their child. When the deaths of their two children pushed Asgore to declare war on humanity, Toriel became disgusted by his actions. She left him, retrieved the first human's body so she could give them a proper burial,[11] and remained in the Ruins.
Toriel often checks the entrance to the Ruins to tend to the bed of Golden Flowers[12] and aid those who fall into the Underground.[13] It is implied that she had cared for the previous six fallen humans in the same way she cares for the protagonist before their eventual depart.[14][15] Sometime after that, Toriel and Sans became friends over knock-knock jokes they shared at the Ruins's exit door. One day, she requested that he promises to protect humans that exit through the door.[16]
Neutral Route
If you truly wish to leave the RUINS... I will not stop you. However, when you leave... Please do not come back. I hope you understand. Goodbye, my child.
Toriel, after being spared in battle.
Toriel overworld guiding Toriel guides the protagonist through the Ruins. At the beginning of the game, Toriel saves the protagonist from Flowey, healing any damage done by him. After introducing herself, she guides them through the first few puzzles of the Ruins.[17] She encourages the protagonist to deal with monster encounters by talking to them, as opposed to acting violently.
Toriel gives the protagonist a cell phone to keep in contact with one another, as she needs to run errands further into the Ruins. She tells them to stay where they are, only to be disobeyed. Toriel occasionally calls the protagonist as they explore to inquire if they left the room, on their favorite flavor preferences, and offers advice on keeping space for new items. When Toriel is about to call once more, she discovers the protagonist is near the entrance to her home. If the protagonist is injured, she heals them.
In her home, Toriel introduces the protagonist to their room and plans to raise them as her own. At the scent of something burning, Toriel leaves them to check on the freshly baked butterscotch-cinnamon pie. After the protagonist asks her about leaving the Ruins, Toriel abruptly leaves; the protagonist follows.
Battle against Toriel. As she goes toward the exit of the Ruins, she explains that she plans to destroy the exit to prevent the protagonist from leaving, as all other humans who left had been killed.[18]
Toriel hugging the protagonist. Depending on choice, the protagonist can leave by killing or sparing Toriel. If killed, she responds accordingly depending if they do so normally or after she stops attacking. If spared, Toriel allows them to leave, but advises them to never return.[19] She hugs them briefly, and looks back at them once more before departing to tend to the flowerbed.
For information on her ending, see Neutral Route#Toriel Ending Tree. True Pacifist Route
What? Frisk... You really are a funny child. If you had said that earlier, none of this would have happened. It is a good thing you took so long to change your mind. Hee hee hee. Well... I suppose. If you really do not have any other place to go... I will do my best to take care of you, for as long as you need. All right? Now, come along. Everyone is waiting for us!
Toriel reappears just as Asgore and the protagonist prepare to fight, interrupting it with her fire magic, much like she does with Flowey at the start of the game. Toriel explains that she was constantly worried about the protagonist, and realized that they would have to take a life to leave, something she was trying to prevent since the beginning.
When Asgore expresses his delight at her reappearance, she scolds him for his cowardice. Toriel criticizes Asgore's plan on freeing monsterkind[20] and rejects his request at being friends.
As the protagonist's friends come, she introduces herself to them and recognizes Sans's voice immediately. She tells the protagonist that while they may have to stay Underground with all their friends, they will live a happy life regardless.
Flowey then appears. Having absorbed the human SOULs, he binds Toriel and company with vines. When Flowey tries to kill the protagonist, Toriel is the first monster to intervene, using her fire magic to block Flowey's bullets. Her SOUL, along with every other monsters', is eventually absorbed by Flowey, allowing him to become Asriel.
During the protagonist's battle with Asriel, Toriel appears as one of the Lost Souls. However, she is eventually saved along with the others by the protagonist when they help them regain their memories of their recent experiences with them.
After the fight against Asriel concludes, she learns the protagonist's name, "Frisk." She tells them that they are free to go through the Underground to talk to more of their friends. Meanwhile, Alphys upgrades Toriel's phone, allowing her to send text messages.
Frisk leaves the Underground with Toriel and their other friends. As the others leave Frisk to begin their lives on the Surface, Toriel asks Frisk what they will do now.[21]
If Frisk decides to stay with Toriel, she says that none of this would have happened if they remained with her at the beginning of the game and that it was for the best that they decided to leave the Ruins.[22] She then promises to take care of Frisk for as long as they need.[23] Like in the Ruins, Toriel takes Frisk's hand as they walk offscreen together. After the credits, Toriel brings a slice of pie to Frisk's room. If Frisk says that they "have places to go," Toriel says that she will see them later.[24] After the credits, Frisk and their monster friends are shown together in a sepia photograph. In the credits sequence, Toriel welcomes Monster Kid to a school that she opened and teaches at. The school door is adorned with the Delta Rune without the triangles that represented the monsters trapped Underground.[25]
Genocide Route
Y... you... really hate me that much? Now I see who I was protecting by keeping you here. Not you... But them! Ha... ha…
Toriel behaves just like she did in all other routes until her battle with the protagonist, where they deplete her HP in one hit. She immediately recognizes their killing instinct, and laments in vain as she collapses. She then disintegrates, and her SOUL lingers briefly before shattering.
The Protagonist
Do not be afraid, my child. It is I, TORIEL, your friend and guardian.
Toriel meets the protagonist at the end of the adventure
Toriel cares for humans who fall into the Ruins and the protagonist is no exception. She tries to keep the protagonist in the Ruins, as Asgore killed the other humans who left her care. If the protagonist spares her, she lets them leave the Ruins, but not before giving them a parting hug.
Toriel screenshot betrayal Toriel's reaction if the protagonist kills her after she is spared thirteen times. If the protagonist kills her during a Neutral Route, she uses the last of her strength to give them a warning about what lies ahead and calls the protagonist "my child" before she turns to dust.[26] If the protagonist kills her when she stops attacking, she says that the protagonist is no different from the monsters outside the Ruins and laughs hysterically before she dies.[27] In the Genocide Route, she realizes that by keeping the protagonist in the Ruins, she was protecting not the protagonist, but the rest of the monsters in the Underground.[28] The death sprite for Toriel is the same in a Genocide Route and on a Neutral Route if the protagonist kills her after she is spared thirteen times.
If the protagonist calls Toriel "mom," it surprises her, and she states that if it makes them happy, then she heartily approves of it.
Calling Toriel on her phone in the Ruins and flirting with her makes her assume the protagonist is joking, if they do it again she is unsure what to make of it.[29] If they flirt with her after calling her "mother," she becomes uncomfortable and calls the protagonist an "interesting" child. She also mentions this in the epilogue.[30]
If the game is reset, Toriel says that talking to the protagonist is like "meeting an old friend for the first time" and also says that she feels this way about most fallen humans.[31]
Asgore
Do not "Tori" me, Dreemurr! You pathetic whelp.
Toriel meets Asgore years later
Asgore is Toriel's ex-husband. They were once extremely close, winning first place in the '98 Nose Nuzzle competition[32] and were open about their affection for one another.[1] During their marriage, Toriel's nicknames for Asgore included "Fluffybuns"[33] and "Gorey."[34]
Toriel left Asgore and New Home after he declared war on humanity.[35] After they are reunited on the True Pacifist Route, Toriel criticizes his plan for freeing monsters[20]but still believes that he deserves mercy, even though he is "terrible."[36] When Asgore asks if they can be reconciled or at least be friends, Toriel declines. While she appears to be civil with Asgore when she speaks to him about the future of the Underground in the aftermath of the fight against Asriel, once they are on the surface and everyone else has left, Asgore wonders whether he should leave too, and Toriel glares at him, prompting him to leave her and Frisk alone. However, in the ending credits, she does not mind his presence while trimming the bushes, hinting a developing tolerance or gradual forgiveness.
Asriel
Toriel was the mother of Asriel, little is known about her relationship with her son, but she always wanted to have a baby and takes care of him along with Asgore. She wished Asriel all the best and even allowed him to be friends with the first human. Even when they poisoned Asgore she was furious about it, but she obviously didn't hold a grudge against him for that long. After his death, Toriel was saddened by his death, she never found out that Flowey was her son. She loves her son very much even years after his death.
The First Human
... Can you hear me? We want you to wake up...
Toriel worries about them at the moment of illness
Toriel took care of the first human as her own child. Little is known about their relationship, but apparently she spent time with them. She clearly taught the first human how to cook a pie and knitting. Later, Chara bonded with Toriel that they developed a habit of saying "Greetings". After their death, Toriel did not want to leave their body in the basement and she took the body to bury in a decent way in a field of golden flowers.
Flowey
Toriel despises Flowey, and refers to them as a "terrible creature"[37] for his attempt to kill the protagonist.
Toriel is unaware that Flowey is Asriel.
Sans
That voice ...!! Hello, I think we may... Know each other?
Toriel first meets Sans face to face
Sans and Toriel do not meet in person until the end of a True Pacifist Route and the Family and Exiled Queen endings, where they both have become good friends. They started their friendship by telling jokes to each other through the door between the Ruins and Snowdin.[38] One day, Toriel entrusted Sans with protecting any human that left the Ruins.[16] They continue to bond in the epilogue and text each other as Frisk backtracks through the Underground.
Toriel is a major returning character from Undertale who plays a minor role in Undertale Yellow. She interrupts a battle between Clover and a Froggit at the beginning of the game and attempts to guide them through the Ruins before a cave-in separates the two.
Appearance
Biologically, Toriel remains unchanged from her appearance in Undertale. She is a Boss Monster resembling a white-furred Nubian Goat with droopy ears, short horns, visible fangs, and long eyelashes. Her outfit has been changed - she now wears a red scarf with a knot and her robe is now a different shade of purple. The robe is still emblazoned with the Delta Rune located near her chest.
Personality
Toriel's personality is, for the most part, unchanged; she is a caring mother figure that takes pleasure in guarding the Ruins and any fallen humans. However, she still maintains her stern personality, as is seen when she scares off a nearby Froggit.
Main Story Before the events of the game, she was married to Asgore and had a child named Asriel, and later adopted the first human. After an incident that led to the death of both their children at the hands of humans and Asgore subsequently declaring war on humanity, she abdicated her role as the Queen of the Underground and retreated to the Ruins, sealing one of the only two doors leading to Snowdin. There, she tries to convince any fallen humans to not leave the Ruins and to live with her, in order to prevent Asgore's plan to gather seven human souls to destroy the barrier and eradicate humanity.
Neutral Route
Toriel is the second monster Clover meets in the Underground, who saves them from an encounter with a Froggit. She guides them through the Ruins and educates them on a few puzzles. However, after a puzzle malfunctions, she and Clover are forcingly separated as the floor under Clover caves in, dropping them into the Dark Ruins – a previously unexplored layer of the Ruins with no other connection to the rest of the dungeon – except for a sole gate out to Snowdin.
While she is not seen again for the rest of the route, Flowey reveals that Clover would be convinced to abandon their crusade and lived out their days with Toriel. When Flowey intervened and got the two of them to fight, Clover would die to everything else the Underground would throw at them, hence the sabotaging of the puzzles to prevent her from interfering.
True Pacifist Route
In the True Pacifist Ending, she is seen in the Ruins, walking by the tree before realizing that its last leaf had fallen off and that Clover has passed on, much to her sadness.
Once the player waits 5-10 minutes in the starting room of the Dark Ruins, Toriel will toss down a rope. Going up said rope restarts the game from the last save point you saved at, or from the beginning if you haven't saved. This is due to Flowey resetting, as is suggested by his dialogue during the Neutral ending where Clover would stay with her. If a player starts the game from the last save, namely from the very first save, saving on it before climbing the rope, and re-climbing it 3 more times, and then goes to the save and talks to Flowey, he will get angry at the player, saying that the player and Flowey don't need Toriel because she will not be able to save the player. And he will add that you need to get out of here already, otherwise you can get old.
- #37Asgore.
Keys: King of monsterkind, Asgore Dreemurr, Dreemurr, Gorey, King of all monsters, King Fluffyboy, KING FLUFFYBOY, King Fluffybuns, Asgore, Mr. dad guy, King dad, Mr. Dreamy
Asgore Dreemurr (/ˈæzɡɔːr ˈdɹiːmər/ AZ-gore DREE-mər)[2] is the King of the Underground and its denizens, monsters. He serves as the secondary antagonist of Undertale, planning to kill seven humans and use their SOULs to break the barrier that traps everyone Underground. However, he is not evil or malicious. Asgore is the ex-husband of Toriel, father of Asriel, adoptive father of the first human, and the penultimate boss of the Neutral Route.
Asgore is a large Boss Monster, and the tallest main character in Undertale. Asgore has two large curved horns, golden-blond mane, golden-blond full beard, white fur, long ears, a snout, and a set of visible fangs. Asgore wears a small, three-pointed crown atop his head, golden pauldrons, a long purple cape that slightly drags along the ground, which he often uses cloak his armored body. Asgore's armor is near-full body, though his feet are unarmored. Distinctly, Asgore's armor has a large chestplate, with a winged crest of the implied "angel" from the Delta Rune emblem, and his tasset visually resembling the triangles of the emblem.
Asgore's weapon in battle is a sharp red trident, adorned with a six-petaled flower at its base.
In the True Pacifist Ending Credits, Asgore is shown to have golden-blond arm hair on his forearms, muscular arms, and a notably rotund stomach, in contrast to his broad-chested armored appearance. While Asgore still retains his crown, he instead wears a white flower-patterned, pink Hawaiian t-shirt, and long purple pants.
Personality
Asgore is kind, often quiet, yet upbeat. He speaks in southern slang, most notably "howdy" and "golly," similar to Asriel.
Asgore's interests include gardening, humming,[3] making tea,[4] such as Golden Flower tea,[5] going for walks,[6]sparring with Undyne, dressing up as Santa Claus,[7] and puns.[8] He has a sense of humor, as he accepts being called "Fluffybuns" after Toriel accidentally nicknamed him in public.[9] However, he is bad at naming places. Asgore gave the monster cities literal names, such as the first being "Home",[10] and naming their latest city as "New Home."[11] Gerson suggests that Asgore may not be too intelligent, as he states everyone knew Toriel managed governing.[12]
Despite this, monsters respect Asgore as a powerful leader. Many monsters refer to him by his name, or by nickname, and partially by his title. Asgore's name is always fully capitalized, and sometimes in red text,[13] yellow text,[14] or a combination of both.[15] However, he only fights humans to give hope to monsterkind.[16] Asgore feels miserable for the deaths of the six humans, does not want to kill anybody,[17] and feels guilty for declaring war on humanity.[18] This guilt seemingly extends to Asgore destroying the MERCY button, and his pessimism on humans trusting monsterkind.[19]
Asgore lives in the past, and only wants to see his wife and Asriel, even though they have been gone for a long time.[20] He writes the same short positive phrase in his journal every day, presumably to not think about his guilt or his family. However, he seemingly tries to bake Toriel's Butterscotch Pie multiple times, which is one of his favorites.[21]
Main Story Before the events of Undertale, King Asgore and Queen Toriel ruled monsterkind. After the war, monsters were sealed in the Underground by humans with the Barrier. Fearful of more attacks, monsters retreated further into the the Ruins, and Asgore named their new city "Home."[10] Toriel and Asgore later had a son, Asriel, and sometime later, adopted the first human, who had fallen into the Ruins.
No longer fearing humans, Asgore, his family, and much of monsterkind moved out of Home and went further into the Underground. Asgore's family and some of monsterkind eventually settled in their new capital, which Asgore named, "New Home."[11] For some time, Asgore and his family lived in Asgore's Home, close to the Barrier. One day, the first human became ill, much to Asgore's dismay. After his children's sudden deaths, Asgore blamed humans and declares war on humanity in a fit of anger. He swore to kill any human that fell into the Underground and planned to use their SOULs to break the Barrier and destroy all humans.[22] Toriel, disgusted with him, left New Home and returned to the Ruins.
Before the protagonist fell into the Underground, W. D. Gaster disappears, and Asgore did not hire a new Royal Scientist for a long time.[23] While Asgore tended to the Golden Flowers, he often also went for walks and interacted with monsters.[6] At unspecified points, six more humans fell, and Asgore saved their SOULs for future use. Eventually, Asgore becomes impressed by Alphys, and hires her as the new Royal Scientist.[24] Asgore requested Alphys to research on SOULs in an attempt to break the Barrier.[25]
Though puzzles were meant as a precaution versus humans, Asgore eventually wished to correct older mandates to make the Underground safer on multiple occasions. This includes the spikes from Snowdin Forest's puzzles[26] and the precarious bridges in Waterfall.[27]
Neutral Route

Asgore
The protagonist finds Asgore watering the Golden Flowers in the Throme Room. Realizing he has a visitor, Asgore turns around and greets them before visibly taken aback, as he realizes the protagonist is a human. He comforts them as he brings them to the barrier, giving them several opportunities to turn back if they have anything left to do before the fight. Asgore does not mind the delay, admitting that he is not ready either.
Before fighting, Asgore tells the protagonist that it was nice knowing them. He then draws his trident and destroys the MERCY button. FIGHTing Asgore is the only way to progress to the ending.
ASGORE soundtrack Battle against Asgore. Much like with Toriel, attacking Asgore when he is at low HP deals significantly greater damage. However, he survives the attack with a small amount of health remaining and kneels in defeat, talking to the protagonist about his declaration of war against humanity, admitting that he only wanted to give the monsters hope by continuing the war, and asking them to take his SOUL to escape the Underground.
The protagonist is given the choice of killing Asgore by selecting the FIGHT button or sparing him by choosing the partially repaired MERCY button.
If the protagonist chooses FIGHT, Asgore dies with a sorrowful smile. Before the protagonist can take his SOUL and pass through the barrier, Flowey shatters Asgore's SOUL, and congratulates the protagonist for affirming his "kill-or-be-killed" philosophy. If the protagonist chooses MERCY, Asgore is surprised that the protagonist would sacrifice their freedom for the sake of keeping hope alive in the Underground, and offers to care for the protagonist as his own child. Flowey ambushes Asgore, destroying his body and SOUL in succession, then mocking the protagonist for being unwilling to accept his "kill-or-be-killed" philosophy. If the protagonist has already completed the Neutral Route beforehand, and in that playthrough had killed Flowey (or followed Flowey's offer to spare Asgore by gaining no EXP), and chooses to spare Asgore again; Asgore begins to mention that he would care for the protagonist, but stops himself, realizing that his SOUL holds the key to getting the protagonist through the barrier. After telling the protagonist that it was what his son, Asriel Dreemurr, would have wanted, he sacrifices himself to give the protagonist his SOUL, hoping that they find some way to free the monsters from the surface. Asgore then fades to dust, his SOUL remaining for a moment, only to be destroyed by Flowey, who mocks the protagonist for thinking that killing him would have made a difference since he would return to kill Asgore anyway. If the protagonist aborted the Genocide Route, Flowey refers to the protagonist by the name of the first human before telling them that this is a "kill-or-be-killed" world. After defeating Photoshop Flowey/Flowey's appearance, the protagonist inexplicably crosses the Barrier and leaves the Underground. Asgore's death has a grave impact on the monsters, the outcome of which is further shaped through the protagonist's actions in-game.
True Pacifist Route
Human, for the future of humans and monsters...! You have to stay determined...!
Asgore
Flowey screenshot captured monsters Asgore and other main characters trapped by Flowey's vines. Much like how she stopped Flowey in the beginning, Toriel interrupts the fight with Asgore, stating how awful it is that he could seek to hurt an innocent creature such as the protagonist. She then explains that she intervened to prevent both Asgore and the protagonist from killing each other. While Asgore is ecstatic to see Toriel again, he is saddened when she chastises him for his plan to collect human SOULs, arguing that he could have gone through the Barrier after collecting one SOUL, but instead chose to wait and hope another human never came, which he solemnly agrees with. After that, Undyne, Alphys, Papyrus, and Sans arrive and begin conversing, until Flowey appears.
Asgore Dreemurr overworld shears During the fight against Asriel, Asgore appears as one of the Lost Souls alongside Toriel. After the fight, he is then seen in the epilogue, where he is first available for a conversation along with the other main characters, and later asks the protagonist if they would become the ambassador for monsters to humanity on the surface. Asgore also appears during the True Pacifist Ending Credits, trimming a hedge to the shape of Papyrus's face in front of Toriel's new school.
Genocide Route
Now, now. There's no need to fight. Why not settle this... Over a nice cup of tea?
When the protagonist kills Sans and enters the throne room, Asgore greets them, commenting on Flowey's warning and asks what kind of monster they are. Though he isn't intent on killing the protagonist, they still attack and deplete his health in one hit. Horrified and bewildered, the helpless Asgore was soon finished by Flowey, who also destroys his SOUL.
Asgore is the penultimate boss (or final, if having already fought Photoshop Flowey) in the Neutral and Pacifist routes and is fought at the end of New Home by the Barrier. Asgore uses fire magic and his trident, with some of his fire-based attacks being similar to Toriel's, though his are more damaging and have more complex patterns. Asgore intends to kill the protagonist in order to obtain the last SOUL needed to destroy the barrier and get to the surface.
On the Neutral Route before the fight begins, Asgore destroys the MERCY button, preventing him from being spared in battle. He attacks mainly with fireballs and his trident. If any of Asgore's attacks would kill the protagonist but they have more than 1 HP, they will survive it with 1 HP left. This resembles Toriel refusing to hurt the protagonist if their HP ever drops to 2, instead opting to deliberately miss the protagonist.
On the Genocide Route, the protagonist automatically attacks Asgore, dealing 9999999999 damage and killing him in one hit.
oriel is Asgore's ex-wife. Before they separated, they used to be "insufferable together, nuzzling noses, bein' all cute n' cuddly," as described by Gerson. The two ultimately fell apart after the deaths of their children and Asgore's declaration of war on humanity.
After Toriel's departure, it seems that Asgore greatly missed her presence. A "Room under renovations" sign is put on her room door in Asgore's Home, and multiple crumpled up pie recipes imply that Asgore attempted to recreate the way her pies tasted, though he could never truly replicate it. This is the inverse of Toriel continuously making her pie and only having low-maintenance plants in her home. This is further supported by his reaction to the protagonist eating Toriel's butterscotch-cinnamon pie during Asgore's battle. After being defeated, he tells the protagonist he just wants to see his wife and child again.
When Toriel interrupts the battle between Asgore and the protagonist, she chastises him for his plan to collect human SOULs and even turns him down when he asks her if they can be friends again, which makes him sorrowful. However, after the fight against Asriel, where their SOULs are saved as one, her aggression towards him seems to cool down.
In the True Pacifist Ending, Asgore can be seen trimming the bushes in front of Toriel's school.
Undyne
"Excuse me, do you want to know how to beat me?"
Asgore meets Undyne and asks her if she wants to know how to beat him.
When Undyne was younger, she met Asgore in person and challenged him to fight. After Asgore defeated her by dodging all her blows, refusing to land his own, he offered to train her. When she finally knocked him down, Asgore was overjoyed, much to the surprise of Undyne. Asgore kept training Undyne until she became the captain of the Royal Guard.
Undyne has knowledge of Asgore's favorite type of tea, and the fact that he often gets marshmallows stuck in his beard when he drinks hot cocoa, implying that he often visits her home.
Gerson
That's the Delta Rune, the emblem of our kingdom. The Kingdom... ... of Monsters. Wahaha! Great name, huh? It's as I always say... Ol' King Fluffybuns can't name for beans!
Gerson on Asgore naming the kingdom.
Gerson implies that he and Asgore have been long term friends, though it is unclear how long Gerson was a hero to monsterkind. Gerson can recall Asgore's simple naming style, and moments from Asgore's life, such as when Toriel called Asgore "Fluffybuns."[9]
Gerson is seemingly the only monster Asgore confided his pessimism on freedom and humans trusting monsterkind.[19]
Alphys
ASGORE left me five messages today. four about everyone being angry one about this cute teacup he found that looks like me thanks asgore.
Entry Number 20, True Lab
Asgore hired Alphys after she impressed him with Mettaton.[24] Asgore is friendly to Alphys, and wholly trusts her during her Determination research. He supported Alphys by asking for monsters who had recently "fallen down,"[28] and had let her experiment with the captured human SOULs.[29] Asgore also gave Alphys message updates, both formal and friendly ones, such as him finding a teacup that looks like her. However, he was unaware of her research progress.
In the True Pacifist Route epilogue, Asgore is still on friendly terms with Alphys. He becomes interested in anime after he overhears Undyne and Alphys's conversation,[30] and readily forgives and comforts Alphys when she admits the truth.[31]
Asriel
... is what my son... ... what ASRIEL would have wanted.
Asgore about his son before death
Asriel was Asgore's biological son. Asgore loved him dearly, equally as much as he did the first human. Asriel's habit of using words such as "howdy" and "golly" likely came from his father, as did, potentially, his lack of naming skills, having dubbed his flower form "Flowey." After the death of his son, Asgore, like Toriel, was saddened by his death. He didn't even know that Flowey was his son. In one of the paths where Asgore sacrifices himself, he says that this is exactly what his son wanted.
The First Human
! You have to stay determined! You can't give up... You are the future of humans and monsters...
Asgore asks the first human to stay determined
The first human was Asgore's adoptive child, whom he loved just as much as Asriel. Asgore considered them to be "the future of humans and monsters," as is repeated on the Game Over screen, VHS Tape 5 in True Lab, and when the protagonist sleeps on the bed in Toriel's Home. It is implied he may have believed the first human was the Angel from Delta Rune's prophecy.[32]
In the Genocide Route, Flowey states that despite trying "hundreds of ways," to get Asgore to show him the six human SOULs, Flowey is confident the first human can convince Asgore to do so.[33]
The Protagonist
Are you ready? If you are not, I understand. I am not ready either.
Asgore at the first Delta Rune arch.
Asgore is polite and friendly to the protagonist, despite them being a human. Asgore attempts to comfort the protagonist numerous times, and tells them to take their time before their battle.[34]
When the protagonist continues, Asgore says that he was pleased to meet them and says goodbye to them before starting the battle. If the protagonist attempts to ACT and chooses "Talk," Asgore falters, but continues to attack. If the protagonist explains that they have died before, Asgore acknowledges with a regretful nod, but continues attacking.
When Asgore is defeated, he explains his regrets, and tells the protagonist take his SOUL to leave "this cursed place." If the protagonist spares Asgore, he questions their reason, then suggests they could live together, along with Toriel, as a family.[35] If Asgore was spared on a previous playthrough, he instead admits he believes the protagonist is the Angel of Delta Rune's prophecy.[32] With remorse, Asgore sacrifices his SOUL to them, in hopes that they find the truth.[36]
On the True Pacifist Route epilogue, Asgore properly asks if they want tea. After seeing the Surface, Asgore asks if the protagonist can be monsterkind's ambassador to the humans.
On the Genocide Route, Asgore does not recognize the protagonist as a human, and questions what kind of monster they are.[37]
His first name is an anagram of the Latin word "Aegros," which can mean troublesome, anxious, sad, difficult, or reluctant. His last name is an anagram of "murderer" and a misspelling of "dreamer." His full name is also an anagram of "Sage or Murderer" or "Guarder Remorse" (which could be a reference to him guarding the monsters and feeling remorse for murdering human children). Also, Asgore is similar to the old Norse name Asgeirr, meaning "God Spear." This may be a reference to the large trident he wields in battle. "Asgore" is also an anagram of "a gorse". Gorse is a poisonous yellow flower similar to the flowers in his throne room. When attempting to name the fallen child "Asgore," the response becomes "You cannot." and prevents the name from being used. Asgore's voice can be heard in the Game Over screen, and when the protagonist goes back to sleep in Toriel's Home after sparing her, killing her, or going to sleep enough times. The lines seen here were spoken to the first human on their deathbed. Due to the fact that he is a boss monster, Asgore cannot age until his child has grown up to a few years younger in appearance and actual age than the parent. However, because Asgore's son, Asriel, is dead, Asgore cannot age.[39] It is possible that Asgore is the Santa Claus of the Underground that leaves presents under the tree in Snowdin. Asgore's overworld sprite features a replica of the Delta Rune laid over his cape and connected to his pauldrons, but the replica is absent from his battle sprite. During Asgore's boss battle, he conceals his face by looking downward, conveying his reluctance to fight. Asgore's bullet patterns are only vaguely pointed in the protagonist's direction throughout, the majority of which are in wide, sweeping waves. His face is lowered even in direct attacks, such as the trident "swipe" attack. Asgore's facial expression when he gets hit by Toriel's fire magic before the fight against Asriel, depicting his eyes bulging and an open, shocked mouth, is similar to Flowey's face when he also gets hit by Toriel's fire at the start of the game. When saving the Lost Souls, the ACTs for Asgore's SOUL are references to the boss battle in the Neutral Route (Mercy, Stare, Talk) which never took place in that timeline. Asgore's contrasting appearance at the End Credits appears to be a common trope of fat characters sucking in their guts as an effort to look more intimidating, Asgore may doing something similar by encasing himself in tight, likely uncomfortable armor. In the Undertale Soundtrack, all the tracks after "ASGORE" are hidden, incorrectly indicating Asgore to be the final boss. Asgore has an UNDERTALE alarm clock app dialogue page. The dialogue reaffirms Asgore's interest in Santa Claus, and Papyrus's friendship with Flowey. Notably, Asgore also mentions his unseen, close friendship with Undertale's parallel of Rudy. While Rudolph Holiday had passed away prior to the game, Asgore expresses happiness that Rudy's daughters are able to see the surface. Asgore was originally planned to have an intimidating personality but was given a more goofy personality after Toby Fox was inspired by his friend Reid Young,[40] a co-founder of starmen.net and Fangamer who played an early demo version of Undertale on Fangamer's official Twitch channel.[41] Asgore has the slowest text speed in the game.
Asgore in Undertale Yellow, as compared to Undertale, is noticeably more grim about the situation of the monsters entrapment. Perhaps this is because, unlike Undertale, there is no certainty that another human will fall into the Underground. When learning Chujin's story, we see a side of Asgore that is colder. Instead of the benevolent ruler offering tea and conversation to anyone who enters his castle, we see a king who's reaching the end of his patience. Because of this attitude during the time, Ceroba quite vocally dislikes Asgore.
Main Story Pacifist
During the pacifist route, Asgore plays quite a few roles in the story. He's the catalyst for Chujin's descent into his work, kickstarting the plot, and is a looming threat that Flowey is always eager to remind you of. However, Asgore will only actually appear on-screen during the epilogue scenes of the credits or, as described above, should you choose to kill Ceroba. If you choose to kill her, Clover and Martlet will continue to the castle. Martlet will try her best to convince Asgore to let you live, but Clover will be prompted with dialogue options that inevitably cause her to leave Clover and Asgore to their business. After this, Asgore will give Clover a monologue similar to that which was given to Frisk in Undertale. However, upon reaching the barrier and revealing the human SOULS to Clover, they aim their weapon at Asgore. Asgore will comment on how tense Clover appears and lament one final time how grim the situation is, before a fight that can't be won initiates. Upon Clover's defeat, we can see their SOUL being contained and the last words they hear from Asgore: "Rest well, young one." "I am sorry."

He attempts to kill Clover to rebuild the underground and take their soul but his trident is shattered by hitting Clover's soul, due to its power. Clover then takes the chance to vaporize him with their SOUL's laser beam ability.
They, seemingly, absorb Asgore's SOUL (a process described possible back in Undertale) to cross the Barrier and release the 5 human SOULS. They are seen walking through the barrier as the 5 human SOULS float around them, before the credits roll.
In Battle Attacks
Asgore's attacks here are mostly repeats of that found in his Undertale counterpart, though they come endlessly rather than in turns.
Strategy
Asgore's turn will continue until Clover is defeated.
Trivia During the Flawed Pacifist Route, the theme that plays during his fight is different from that in Undertale - the track Final Encounter plays instead. Though unseen, starting Asgore's fight sets Clover's HP to 9999, though taking only 1 HP but still weakening from impossible-to-avoid attacks. Asgore's voice bytes appear differently than in Undertale. Instead of appearing at a slower speed, they run at the game's default speed. They appear again the same as in the original game only when he takes Clover to the Barrier in the Flawed Pacifist Ending.
- #38Ceroba.
Keys: Fox Lady, Ceroba, Ceroba Ketsukane, Tall Lady
Ceroba Ketsukane (欠鐘 セロバ) is a primary antagonist (along with Flowey) in Undertale Yellow.
She is the widow of Chujin and the mother of Kanako. Her main Intent is taking Clover's SOUL to save the underground and advance Chujin's legacy, and she serves as the final boss of the True Pacifist route, and penultimate boss of the Flawed Pacifist route.
During the Genocide route, she replaces Starlo as the boss of the Wild East after Clover kills the latter in a duel.
Ceroba is a fox-like monster with beige fur and long, wavy ginger hair. Her hair is tied up in a ponytail by a red ribbon with a small gold bell in the centre. She has a long, white kimono with red trimmings; a red obi sash tied around her waist and white boots.
During her battle phases, she carries a long red staff with a bright yellow bell at the end two little red ribbons tied around the ends of the bell. In the Pacifist Route battle, she wears the Kitsune mask made by Kanako, consisting of two dark eye sockets that receive bright red dots in the final phase, with pink dyes. Her hair becomes more voluminous, resembling tails with pink shine. Additionally, she wears a cloak that is shown in concept art to be yellowish-white with pink edges.
Her attacks in the overworld are represented as white and pink flashes of light.
Personality
Brilliant, supportive and skeptical, Ceroba is a powerful ally when it comes to wanting to help those closest to her. She is shown to care a lot for her loved ones. However, she is highly stubborn, even going so far as to question the true meaning of Asgore's words when confronted with the truth of her husband's employment. Because of this, she is firm on her husband's legacy as a scientist and a hero of the underground, and she spends the days after her husband's passing trying to complete the work that he had passed down to her. However, when she finally tests it on Kanako and has it result in her falling down, Ceroba's beliefs strengthen to the point that she is fully willing to kill Clover to save the rest of the underground.
Ceroba is observant, and can tell how others are feeling just by a glance, and can also notice a shift or change in the other's moods. Though she is not hesitant to say them to others, she will try to hide them from those she loves as long as it does not harm others. An example of this is her relationship with Starlo, and she didn't confront him about his behavior until after his friends had come up about how it was making the rest of them feel. She is quite honest and straight-forward as well. This is evident from how she treats Starlo's shenanigans in the Wild East, saying she doesn't understand it and acting nonchalant when included in them, as well as her realistic assessment of Clover's fate before and after her battle in the Pacifist route. The exception to her realism is her husband, Chujin, who she always holds in high regard no matter what information is displayed to her that may say otherwise.
Main Story Neutral Route
Most events regarding Ceroba that take place during the Pacifist route in the Wild East occur here as well.
If Starlo is killed, Ceroba finds Clover and asks them where he went. Regardless of their answer, she says she'll go north and ask his family. Going into the family home shows her talking to Starlo's family, thinking he'll return soon as they haven't exhausted all options and "he's a softie at heart", and leaves, this being her last appearance of the route.
If Starlo is spared, Ceroba will not follow Clover inside the Steamworks and will instead leave after interrupting the fight. She says this is because of Clover being strong enough to handle it on their own, but it is presumably due to Ceroba not being able to follow through with her plan to kill Clover because their SOUL is not pure, rendering Chujin's plan unachievable.
Pacifist Route
Clover first meets Ceroba in the Wild East. Ceroba formally introduces herself to Clover after Clover is taken to the saloon. She requests that Clover entertain Starlo, and in return, will see what she can do with letting them leave. Ceroba appears during most events with Starlo and the Feisty Four, and Clover is usually able to talk to her afterwards. After the battle with Starlo, she requests for you to accompany her through the Steamworks and to the lab in order to find Kanako, whom she hints to Starlo and Clover is still alive. Ceroba sends Starlo back to the Wild East and is with Clover for the majority of the Steamworks. While traversing the Steamworks, she reveals bits of her past. When the pair reaches the elevator on the other side of the Steamworks, they're confronted by Starlo and Ed. Here, it's revealed that while trying to arrange a party, Ed discovered something hidden within her house. Ceroba appears to panic and runs into the elevator, leaving Clover with Starlo and Ed.
When Martlet and Clover find Starlo confronting her, she tells Starlo and Martlet to leave Clover with her. When negotiations break down, she strikes down the two of them before they can interfere. She then tells Clover they are naïve for thinking five humans could be alive in the Underground, or that Asgore would let them go. Admitting to be a hypocrite and not morally superior to Asgore, she states that she will help Monsterkind by using Chujin's work, stating that if Asgore did break the barrier, humans would just defeat them again and stuff them back down into the mountain. She admits to having nothing else to lose before attacking Clover.
Halfway through the fight, Clover unlocks the ability to shoot larger projectiles, forcing Ceroba to use Kanako's mask to achieve a Kitsune-like form. Clover eventually cracks the mask, which causes a memory to play out before the two of them. The memory is of Chujin on his deathbed, who tells Ceroba of the bunker where he worked on his project, with Kanako having heard everything. Ceroba is initially startled by Clover being in her head, but continues fighting. Clover manages to chip away more of the mask, revealing another memory of Ceroba and Kanako in Chujin's bunker, with the young girl naively allowing Ceroba to inject her with Chujin's serum, causing her to "fall down". As Ceroba lays silently before Clover, she reveals how deep her sins are and is "chasing the one ray of sunshine peeking through the surface", unable to let go, and gets up one last time.
Eventually, Clover manages to destroy the mask, reverting her back to her normal state. As Ceroba lays defeated before Clover, she eventually realizes her attempts at fulfilling Chujin's legacy were at the cost of her family, and made her attack her friends and a child, for something that may not have even worked. Wracked with guilt, she begs Clover to finish her.
If killed, she thanks Clover for freeing her of this guilt, happy to be reunited with Chujin again. Upon her death, she drops Kanako's broken mask.
If spared, she begs Clover to finish her, before being interrupted by Starlo. After Martlet wakes up, she apologizes to Clover for attacking them before Clover hugs her as an act of forgiveness. However, she shoots down Martlet's suggestion of presenting Clover to the King, and eventually gets in an argument with her and Starlo for Clover's future. When Clover decides to sacrifice themselves so that one day, Monsterkind can be free, Ceroba is the only one who accepts Clover's intent. After sharing one last hug with the human, she extracts their SOUL before saying farewell.
During the credits, she's comforted by Starlo just before presenting Clover's SOUL to Asgore. Later, she is seen getting corn from the Wild East and delivering it to Dalv's new home in Snowdin. Afterwards, she shows up with Dalv in tow so that they can say their farewells to the human.
Genocide Route
Ceroba's first and only appearance in the Genocide route is soon after Clover and Starlo's duel. Having warned Starlo about Clover and expecting him to run away, instead Starlo challenges Clover to a duel. Regardless of if Starlo wins or loses the duel, Clover shoots him down. Ceroba appears In Starlo's last moments, and he encourages Ceroba to do what's right as she hugs him, before he soon turns to dust. Ceroba snaps at Clover and initiates a battle against them. Ceroba eventually falls to Clover, not before wishing that they choke on the dust from all the murdered monsters, and that they go to hell.
- #39Starlo.
Keys: Star, Starlo, North Star
Starlo is a humanoid monster. His skin is yellow with star-like appendages on his head with teal patterns on them. He wears a brown poncho with teal stripes with his sheriff badge on it; a dark brown ten-gallon hat; brown pants, and black boots with spurs. Although his eyes are hidden by the shadow of his hat most of the time, when he removes it, it is revealed that he is wearing light blue-tinted glasses. Starlo also wields a silver revolver.
Personality
Starlo's true personality is superseded most of the time by a Western persona. Borne out of a fanaticism of Wild Western culture, Starlo puts on this persona from a desire to spread excitement and drama to the inhabitants of the Underground - distracting them from the cruel reality of monsterkind's collective banishment from the Surface. Going by the moniker of "North Star," he plays the role of the Wild East's upbeat sheriff, who is determined to "keep the peace" by any means necessary. This for the most part is all drama, as there is no real danger (besides potentially Clover) and is all put on as a fun distraction for the Dunes' inhabitants, who all seem to play along.
While displaying his "North Star" persona, Starlo has been shown to value validation from others. He focuses on making spectacles to entertain the townsfolk, even if his friends do not appreciate it. This is also the reason he eventually attacks Clover; to be revered by the entire Underground.
Starlo's true personality is revealed after his boss fight in the Pacifist Route. He is shown to be much more of a nerd - a picture in his home revealing he was even adorned with stereotypical dweeb braces at one point. As such, his room is filled with various Western memorabilia from the Surface and even contains glowy sticker stars. Despite this, however, one thing that is constant between "North Star" and Starlo is his kindness and how he values those close to him. In fact, this is the whole reason the "North Star" persona exists in the first place.
Main Story Before the game, he was childhood friends with Ceroba, and even had a crush on her. However, she fell in love with Chujin instead, causing Starlo to retreat into his room for days before finally coming back out. Later on, he invested in Wild Western culture and soon created a persona out of it - "North Star", the fearless sheriff of the Wild East, his hometown. He, alongside his companions the Feisty Four, would serve as the protectors of the town.
When Clover reaches the Wild East with Martlet in tow, their run-in with the Feisty Four alerts him to their presence. After explaining who the team was, he realizes Clover is a human, and a cowboy as well, and he immediately has Ed capture the human to recruit them into the team before throwing Martlet in prison due to her lacking any actual evidence that she is, in fact, a member of the Royal Guard.
After taking Clover to the town saloon and introducing them to the people there, he then talks about his "human knowledge", trying to see if Clover agrees with him. Afterwards, he reveals his intent to make Clover a member of his posse, putting them through "missions" to prove their worth. However, he prioritizes Clover over the others, much to their frustration - and after the third mission, he makes Clover his deputy, much to the indignation of the Four. When the Four try and fight Clover to give the human a "real challenge", Starlo accuses them of being jealous. This causes the team to resign, and Ceroba to be disappointed with Starlo's actions. Starlo then leaves, trying to figure out how he can fix things.
Clover confronts Starlo on the bridge leading to Sunnyside Farm, who is not in a good headspace, questioning if Clover is even his friend. Frustrated over how his efforts to keep monsters in Wild East entertained as to not deal with the hopeless fact they are trapped underground turned out, he realizes the privileges of what being part of the Royal Guard bring, and ties up Clover with his lasso in an attempt to kill them and take their SOUL.
Neutral Route
Starlo does not play a direct role in the story of this route. If fatally attacked, he will use his last breath to state he deserved his fate for betraying Clover and requests that the human informs his parents that he will be away for a while. Shortly after his death, Ceroba will approach Clover and inquire about Starlo's whereabouts. Clover can either stay quiet or apologize, but either way, Ceroba ends up heading north to ask his family.
If spared, but Clover has EXP, then Ceroba doesn't go with Clover into the Steamworks, stating she has Starlo and the Four to keep her company.
Near the end of the game, during the first phase of the “Meta Flowey” fight, if the player has killed Starlo in the run he will appear as a distorted version of himself; his face and overall being is shown to be covered with vines, with stretched/distorted limbs.
Pacifist Route
Right as Ceroba and Clover leave the Steamworks and prepare to enter Hotland, Starlo and Ed confront Ceroba. They were cleaning up her house for a celebration party for Kanako before Ed discovered a secret chamber that contained extremely questionable stuff, including a lab. Concerned that she has intentions to hurt Clover and use their SOUL for plans that her late husband had documented, he demands an explanation. In reply, Ceroba panics, and immediately heads towards the elevator while Starlo chases after her, and has Ed take Clover back to the Wild East.
Soon after, Clover and Martlet find Starlo confronting Ceroba on a balcony in New Home. Shortly after Martlet and Clover step in to defuse the situation between the two, Starlo urges Martlet to take Clover to a safer location while he holds Ceroba back when negotiations break down - but to no avail. Ceroba knocks Martlet out. Starlo lunges at her but gets knocked out as well, leaving Clover and Ceroba to duel one against one.
Flawed Pacifist Ending
If the player decides to kill Ceroba, Starlo is left in disbelief and despair as he has lost his best friend. Despite Martlet's best efforts at trying to justify the killing of Ceroba as self defense, Starlo is disgusted with Clover and now views them as "lower than dirt". He solemnly walks off, wishing that he hadn't hesitated to fire the last bullet in his revolver earlier on.
True Pacifist Ending
If the player decides to spare Ceroba, Starlo will wake up and convince Ceroba not to seek death for her actions. He, Ceroba, and Martlet then talk on what to do with Clover as taking them to Asgore will not end well. He and Martlet try to convince Clover not to sacrifice their life for their sakes, but relents when Ceroba states they are serious. After one last hug goodbye, Clover hands Starlo their gun before leaving.
During the credits, he comforts Ceroba as they prepare to present Clover's SOUL to Asgore. Later, he can be seen wearing his farmer attire, having re-accepted his background as he, along with his crew, deliver corn from his parents' farm to the Wild East. At the end, he arrives during a final send off for Clover, placing both the gun Clover gave him as well as safety goggles before saying his farewells.
Genocide Route
Starlo is told to evacuate alongside the rest of the Wild East, but decides not to out of a sense of duty as the town's sheriff. When Clover arrives, Starlo takes note of the fact that they are yet to shoot him and proposes to "settle things fairly" with a duel. Additionally, Starlo's overworld sprite no longer smiles.
If Clover draws, Starlo is always fatally shot. If Clover waits until Starlo draws, he reveals that he was holding a toy gun, acknowledging that he couldn't do it for real. Starlo then thanks Clover for "letting him feel cool", but Clover shoots him anyway.
Hearing the gunshot, Ceroba rushes over to see the wounded Starlo. Regardless of how the duel played out, Starlo tells Ceroba that he "almost won", gripping her hand as he dies.
In Battle During Starlo's battle, Clover is caught by a lasso. In this state, their SOUL can only move in a small radius around them and snaps back if the player stops moving.
Attacks
A single gun targets the player's current elevation. This is only used in the intro. Guns continuously shoot in a straight line at the SOUL. Dynamite is thrown down from either side of the bullet board, exploding into a shockwave. A horseshoe surrounds the SOUL and starts spinning counter-clockwise. Blue and orange soundwaves ring out from a bell at the top of the board. Starlo shoots three bottles. Upon being broken, five shards rain down from the top of the board. Trains drive across train tracks appearing in the background. Starlo wields his gun and shoots bullets at the location of the player's SOUL. Strategy
Starlo can only be fought during a non-genocide run. His fight requires Clover to simply dodge as much as possible.
Once Starlo starts his last attack, he can hit the lasso by accident if you line up the reticle with the rope. Doing this three times will break it and allow you to move freely. Once the rope breaks, Starlo will unload the remaining bullets in his revolver during that turn. After the attack ends, his last phase will begin which works just like before, both for sparing and killing, but all attacks are harder to dodge. Starlo will also perform versions of his previous attacks with the SOUL in slow motion.
After Starlo performs his last combo which starts with a slow-mo version of his second attack, he counts as having lowered his guard. Any attack towards Starlo at this point is lethal.
After his last attack ends, Starlo raises up his gun to shoot his last bullet. Regardless of which action the player chooses, the SOUL will be unable to move, at which point Ceroba will show up to stop him.
Ceroba and Starlo are best friends and have known each other since childhood. Starlo once had a crush on Ceroba and was devastated after she got engaged to Chujin. From a picture in his parents' house, it is shown that Starlo was shy around Ceroba when they were teenagers.
Starlo is shown to care very deeply for Ceroba, allowing her to stay at his place after Chujin and Kanako left. Part of the reason Starlo became an entertainer was to distract Ceroba from her worries. However, this was ineffective.
After discovering the truth regarding Ceroba's intentions in the Pacifist Route, Starlo is determined to stop her from following through with Chujin's plan and killing Clover. However, he still cares for her, shown by how enraged he is should Clover choose to kill her.
By the end of the Pacifist Route, Starlo has adopted a more mature way of helping Ceroba through her troubles. This is shown by how he helps her up after her boss fight and comforts her during the credits, causing her overworld sprite to smile for the first time.
His alias, North Star, is a reference to the Polaris star found in the Ursa Minor (also known as Little Dipper) constellation. Starlo appears to be left-handed; both his sprites and flavor text depict him holding his revolver in his left hand. In one his sprites, he is called "Nerdlo".[1] If Clover talks to Crestina when they go inside of his house after sparing him, she says that Starlo used to have a crush on Ceroba. When she got engaged to Chujin, he was so devastated that he didn’t leave the house for days. According to his father, Starlo is good at singing, just like his mother and brother. The response options that Clover can give to Ceroba after killing Starlo are the same ones that can be given to Starlo himself when killing Ceroba in the Flawed Pacifist Route. In the Genocide Route, he turns into dust from the bottom up, which is odd because in almost every other case it is from top to bottom. This also happens with Martlet in the Neutral Route. Oddly enough, both are killed before starting a fight. Starlo shares some similarities with Undyne. Both are authority figures (Sheriff and Leader of the Royal Guard, respectively) found in the game's third area (Dunes and Waterfall). Both have an enthusiastic and extroverted personality (although in different ways). Both like human culture and built a façade around something of this culture (Western and anime]. Both wield specific weapons in battle (Starlo uses a revolver and Undyne uses a spear). Both restrict the movement of the SOUL to the center of the Bullet Board (Starlo holds it with his lasso and Undyne uses Green Mode), and advancing the battle requires acts that most players took a while to understand (Starlo's battle requires you to get him to hit his own lasso and Undyne's requires you to run away, which is not possible with any other Boss besides Toriel). On the other hand, both are also opposites in several aspects. Starlo has a group following him, while Undyne patrols Waterfall alone. Undyne openly hates humans (initially) while Starlo idolizes them and tries to recruit the first one he meets to make them a hero of justice. Undyne offers Frisk a spear to defend themselves from her attacks, while Starlo openly admits he wasn't playing fair by trapping Clover in his lasso. Starlo is quickly killed in the Genocide Route without even being confronted in battle, while Undyne has a Genocide-exclusive battle that is even more difficult than her normal battle. If spared, Starlo may send a different letter to the player if they return to the Wild East, depending on the route. His letter in the Neutral Route says that, after leaving, he looked at the rock at the top of the mines for a while to reflect and became temporarily blind. Upon recovering, he tearfully apologized to his friends and they forgave him, and the Feisty Five became, in his words: "Twice as sensitive to others' feelings". He tells how Ceroba and Dina organized a party to celebrate and how he would like Clover to be there, but he thought it would be better for Clover to leave the Underground. His letter in the Pacifist Route talks about him and his group going to Ceroba's old house to celebrate Kanako's return, but Edward discovered Chujin's ribbons. Starlo says that Clover's life could be in danger and tells them not to leave the Wild East until the situation is resolved. Starlo's parents, Solomon and Crestina, are a Sun and Moon respectively, which explains why he's a star. Along with Moray and Ceroba, Starlo is the only enemy who wields a combat weapon (his revolver). Starlo shares many similarities with the character Rango from the 2011 film "Rango". It’s likely that his character was inspired by Rango.
- #40Martlet.
Keys: Martlet, That bird, Bird brain., Zenith Martlet, Feathers
Martlet is the overall deuteragonist of Undertale Yellow, the boss of Snowdin, the second major area of the game, serving as the Tritagonist of the Neutral Route, Deuteragonist of the Pacifist Route, and the final boss/main antagonist of the Genocide Route. She is a member of the Royal Guard.
Martlet is a blue anthropomorphic bird-like monster with two wings used as arms. She wears two yellow-ochre snow boots. She has a mop of hair on top of her head with flyaway stands and a feather-like tuft near the back. She wears a greyish blue sleeveless shirt and dark blue pants.
When Martlet transforms with her serum, her eyes turn a glowing yellow, and her hair, wings, and legs become longer. Her hair drapes down more and is more wavy. She sports a breastplate with a heart design in the middle and shoulder pads fitted into the suit pointing up. Her boots disappear from her original design, with talons replacing them. Martlet's hair is also more elegantly displayed, with the outlying motif from her original hair style being accentuated.
Personality
In February 2019, a comic was made about her, depicting her running late to work and falling asleep when trying to be productive. In the game, Martlet is shown to be, as the game states, scatterbrained. Martlet seems to struggle with concentrating on her duties and often relies on a manual or lists so she can know what she has to do. Her laziness is also hinted at in the game with a note on Information booth that tells passerby to wake her up if she dozes off on the job.
While she seems a bit naive on the surface, what Martlet makes up for in her disorganized workflow is her strong morale. As shown in the Genocide Route, Martlet has a strong sense of justice, and is more serious compared to her Pacifist counterpart. She even runs away from her initial battle via a tactical retreat, and monitors Clover for most of the game. She will go to great lengths to put a stop to anyone trying to harm monsterkind, including injecting herself with a fabricated serum, just so she can have the power to put an end to Clover’s killing spree, no matter the cost.
Main Story Neutral Route
Snowdin Encounter
Martlet is first introduced in Snowdin when she is recalibrating a lava ball puzzle, and again propping up a sign next to the swinging bridge puzzle. After going through some of her puzzles, Clover officially encounters her when she is pretending to be an information kiosk. This doesn't last long, as she soon reveals herself to be a member of the Royal Guard. She correctly guesses that Clover is a human and engages in combat.
If Clover refuses to attack Martlet or spares her, she becomes confused, then offers to take them to Hotland aboard a raft named "Ava". She asks them several survey-style questions about her performance as a member of the Royal Guard, then decides to fill in the rest of the questions herself. The raft then picks up speed, traveling through a pipe over Hotland, and crashes on the other side, causing Clover to fall into another pit. Martlet panics and says she will try to find help, then flies away.
Wild East Encounter
On their way to the Wild East, Martlet catches up to Clover and says she is relieved to have found them, while also feeling bad for having abandoned them. She follows Clover into the town, where they are accosted by the Feisty Five. After Ed picks up Clover and the Five take them away, Martlet ("Feathers") is thrown into jail, where she complains about being bored and hungry, even resorting to eating moss on the wall. She is eventually freed from the jail cell after Clover confronts Starlo and Ceroba intervenes. However, just as they are reunited, Martlet then says she needs to depart again and will send for them later.
Apt. Complex Roof Encounter
Mail Whale hands Clover an urgent letter from Martlet when they're leaving Steamworks, which tells them to meet her on the roof of UG Apartments. When they get there, Martlet explains that she can't let them go to Asgore Dreemurr since he will kill them. Martlet asks Clover to reconsider and offers them to live with her, but before they can leave together, Flowey kills her by impaling her with a vine. Martlet believed that it was Clover who impaled her, not Flowey.
If the player aborted a Genocide Route before finishing Steamworks, the dialogue is changed. Martlet feels like she can still sense good in Clover, despite feeling proven right that humans are the enemy, and despite contemplating the plan of using her syringe. She questions her own judgement, and says that even if Clover shoots her now, they will never get past Asgore. She then pleads with Clover to put an end to the death, and come live a "happy, violence-free childhood" by staying with her. Before they can leave, she is killed by Flowey impaling her, and dies believing Clover was responsible.
Pacifist
Snowdin Encounter
Martlet becomes confused when Clover does not attack first and tries to understand by reading her Royal Guard guidebook. If Clover still does not attack, Martlet loses the urge to fight and instead pushes Clover to insult her. When Clover finally does, Martlet tells them she is very close to losing her job and that another misstep will get her fired. If Clover instead hits Martlet after being prompted, they no longer have to insult Martlet, as she will allow them to spare her after a few turns have passed. After Clover spares Martlet, she chastises Clover for resorting to violence before forgiving them because they're still a good kid some of the time, "and some of the time is good enough for me!", after which the story continues as normal[1]. Considering her job is on the line, Martlet suggests hiding Clover to not lose her position and to get Clover home. She escorts them to the U.G Aviator, nicknamed "Ava", and joins Clover down the ride through Waterfall. Martlet and Clover are then separated after the U.G Aviator crashes. As trying to kill Martlet ends with her running away, it is not possible to gain EXP from her. Hence, the player can choose to defeat Martlet without aborting the Pacifist route. The post-Martlet fight proceeds as it would in a Neutral route where the player defeats Martlet, with Clover stealing the U.G Aviator and ending up in the Dunes. However, the scene where Martlet meets Clover in the Dunes is unchanged, even though she uses Clover's name despite never learning it, and never brings up the fact that Clover stole the U.G Aviator[2].
Wild East
Upon arriving at the Wild East, Clover and Martlet will be confronted by the Feisty Five. While Clover is taken in for deputy training, Martlet spends the entire chapter located in the town’s jail due to them not believing her to be a Royal Guard. Once Starlo is bested and talked down, Martlet heads back to Snowdin to not be late. After successfully traversing the Steamworks, Clover is taken back to the Wild East while Starlo pursues Ceroba. Martlet is then informed by Moray of the Feisty Four in order to aid Clover in investigating Ceroba’s home, and upon discovering Chujin's recordings, instructs Clover to meet her on the roof of the UG Apartments Complex. From here, both of them leave to pursue Ceroba and Starlo to New Home.
Apartment Complex → New Home
Clover and Martlet both take the elevator up to New Home, where they both discover Ceroba and Starlo standing on a balcony, arguing over the morality of Ceroba’s quest. After listening in to their conversation, Martlet and Clover interfered their argument to aid Starlo in driving Ceroba of her quest. Ceroba knocks out both Martlet and Starlo before engaging Clover in a final showdown. Both do not recover until the fight ends.
If Ceroba is spared after the fight, Martlet and Starlo attempt to find a new alternative to Clover offering their SOUL to them, but could not overrule Clover's decision. She is later seen in the end credits giving corn to Dalv at his new house. Later at Waterfall, she reveals to have put her two week notice for the Royal Guard before placing Clover’s Hat in the U.G Aviator, along with Dalv, Starlo and Ceroba, and sending them down a river, saying her last goodbyes.
If Ceroba is killed, Martlet tries to cheer Clover up after Starlo’s departure, and continues with them to Asgore. She attempts to convince him to let Clover go back to the surface, before reluctantly leaving the room at Clover’s request.
Genocide
Snowdin Encounter
When first encountering Clover in Snowdin, Martlet shows concern about them being left behind. After offering to help Clover catch up with the others, a battle begins the two. Although not wanting to fight at first, thinking they're just scared due to the current looming threat, after being attacked 3 times she realizes that Clover is the reason behind the Evacuations, which causes her to begin attacking. Upon reaching low HP, Martlet stops the fight, asking Clover to lower their weapon before warning them about the consequences of their actions if they continue killing and flies away.
Wild East Encounter
Martlet and Clover run into each other on the path to the right of the playground. Here, she tries to reason with Clover, before they step forward, cutting her off. She then warns them about how the Royal Guard searching for them and how she thinks Clover can still fix things. Clover pulls their gun out, so she warns them about how they won't get away with what they've done before flying away.
Apt. Complex Roof Encounter
Martlet Apartment Complex Roof cutscene screenshot Martlet injecting herself with serum to transform into a more powerful form Martlet can be seen staring at the core, before turning to face Clover. After being brought into battle, she monologues about how she wanted to believe humans were good, sharing her regrets about not trying harder to stop Clover but how she knew the chance of her succeeding was slim. She then pulls out a syringe containing an unspecified substance (implied to be either Determination or leftover extract Chujin got from the Integrity SOUL), telling Clover that they should've finished her when they had the chance before injecting it into her left wing. A second passes, before she drops to the ground. Her body soon begins transforming, causing her old wings to erupt into much larger, galaxy textured wings, her feet to turn into that of a falcon's, and her hair grows much longer. She flies into the air, out of frame, before slowly gliding back into frame, revealing a metal chest piece that can only be damaged by the SOUL blaster. After letting out a screech, signifying a battle cry, she attacks.
After her chest piece's health is depleted, she falls to the ground before the screen fades to white and the chest piece can be heard shattering. A flashback then ensues, showing her telling Chujin about how she got a job as a Royal Guard, posted near Hotland. Shortly after, it cuts to a conversation between Alphys and Martlet, before another cut to Martlet standing infront of the true lab door. It fades to black as she enters the true lab, muttering "Humans are dangerous..." as the flashback ends.
After taking more damage, Martlet takes a fighting stance, using both her wings as fists as she prepares to fight once more. With her chest piece gone, she may now take damage from Clover's weapon as well as the SOUL blaster. As her health depletes, her body's integrity begins to waver, and cracks form in the starry grid behind her. When Martlet loses all of her health, she asks Clover how many it'd take for them to be satisfied, calling them an unjust maniac. She attempts to say something else, beginning with "I hope you-" but is cut short when she starts losing color and melts rapidly. She desperately pleads for help, to no avail, and eventually fully disintegrates.
A martlet is a mythical footless bird that never roosts throughout its entire life, continuously flying until death. In English heraldry, it is an allegory for continuous effort. This is ironic because of her apparent laziness Her silly and scatterbrained personality is probably a joke with the term “bird brain.” Martlet is one of the final bosses along with Flowey and Ceroba. She is the final boss of the Genocide Route. Martlet was revealed on December 26th, 2016 in an Undertale Yellow Twitter post, and her art was created by Emmalume_, who does not have a Twitter account anymore. Her Neutral and True Pacifist Route battle theme, Protocol, was revealed on April 15, 2019, and her Genocide Route battle theme, Apprehension, was revealed on November 18, 2021, with much more intense and has added guitars. The title of the Genocide track also presents a possible double meaning - “apprehension” can mean the same thing as “arrest” (ironically not what she is doing, as she is acting out of a last resort instead), but also suggests she naturally has immense anxiety from the fight. Upon arriving at the Wild East well, Martlet asks Clover for gold to wish Clover back home safely. It is possible to give her gold even if the player is out of money. Zenith Martlet, along with Ceroba and, is the only enemy of the Genocide Route that cannot be spared. She is visually similar to the character Berdly from Deltarune (in terms of being bluebirds), and their battles themes have the same BPM She has an unused dialogue if her HP were to be fully depleted during the Genocide Route. If the player inspects the knives in Ceroba's house, Martlet approaches Clover, saying that "children shouldn't use knives". It could be a joke referring to Chara. She shares some characteristics in common with Sans and Papyrus. Besides living in Snowdin, like the skeleton brothers, similar to Papyrus, she is an aspiring royal guard (or almost so), with an enthusiastic and clumsy personality, with a great taste for puzzles, but still has a kind heart and seeks to see the good in the protagonist, in addition to occupying the role of Snowdin's boss. Like Sans, she has the characteristic of sleeping on duty, mild laziness, offers warnings to the protagonist about the path they are taking on the Genocide Route, observes the protagonist's actions on the Neutral Route, hoping that they have something good within them, and at the end of the Genocide Route, she recognizes the threat that the protagonist represents and has one last battle against them, using all her efforts in what is considered the most difficult fight in the game. The variation in the conversation she has with Clover on the roof depending on the player's LOVE is very reminiscent of Sans' judgement. Just like Sans' eye, her form Zenith carries the colors light blue and yellow (The colors of Patience and Justice, respectively). Martlet eating moss in her prison cell is likely a reference to Kris from Deltarune, who does the same thing in their cell in Card Castle and in the City on Chapter 2. Just like Asgore in the original Undertale, Martlet can only be saved on a Pacifist Route. In any other route she dies at the hands of Clover or Flowey. When she dies in the neutral route, she turns into dust from the bottom up, which is odd because in almost every other case it is from the top to bottom. This also happens with Starlo in the Genocide Route. Oddly enough, both of these deaths are done outside of a proper fight Her genocide battle may be inspired by Undyne's, as both are members of the Royal Guard and Undyne's Undying form has the same purpose as Zenith-Martlet. Additionally, both melt upon defeat. Many fans consider Martlet’s “birthday” to be on December 26, as she was officially revealed as an Undertale Yellow character on that date.
- #41Telly-vis.
Keys: Telly-Vis.
Telly-Vis is an enemy encountered in the Steamworks. It consists of two robots: Telly and Vis.
Appearance
Telly-Vis’s design is based off of an old CRT TV with a built-in VCR. According to battle dialogue, Vis’s mouth is the flap in which VHS tapes are inserted.
Personality
Telly-Vis seemingly has two personalities, one for Telly, and one for Vis. Telly (she/her) is the telivision portion of Telly-Vis. She is seemingly very nice towards Clover, however she does not seem to like Vis very much, occassionally poking at his mouth flap. Vis (he/him) is the VCR pirtion of Telly-Vis, and is a lot more cynical, claiming that Telly’s live satelite airings are “so temporary” due to them only being able to be viewed once without his help recording them, complaining about how reruns aren’t nessesary when you can just record the show to a VHS and watch it back whenever you want.
Telly and Vis both seem to show great distain towards each other, with Telly putting her hands in Vis’s mouth and Vis using Telly’s remote to change her channel during attacks. It is strongly implied that Telly and Vis are only together due to them being manufatured as one machine, as a VCR without a tv to record things on would be useless and a TV without a method of recording and playing back videos, while not being unusable, would be quite outdated.
The SVS logo will quickly bounce off of all sides of the bullet board, cycling between white, blue, and orange. A VHS tape will quickly fly from one end of the bullet board to the other, one at a time. Telly-Vis will flip channels in quick succession of any* attacks used by previous enemies. If an attack is used that normally changes the shape of the bullet board, the bullet board will not be affected in fights against Telly-Vis. Strategy
Clover can spare Telly-Vis by using Signal and then Watch.
- #42Jandroid.
Keys: Jandroid.
Jandroid is a monster encountered in Steamworks.
Appearance
Jandroid is a strange-looking robot. With a mop bucket for feet, disembodied hands that hold a janitor's mop and headphones with an eighth note on the ears.
Personality
Contrary to the name of the Jandroid, it's particularly adverse to cleaning, seeing cleanliness as disgusting, going as far as to try staining Clover's vest just to make it dirty. Furthermore, upon offering to clean the Jandroid, it gets offended and throws garbage at them, ironically leading to Clover being more clean
- #43Goosic.
Keys: Goosic
Goosic is a monster encountered in the Steamworks.
Goosic resembles a living gramophone, most notably haring the same base and horn. However, instead of being connected to the base directly, Goosic's head is instead attached to a chain. It also wears a crown on its head.
A record begins spinning, before an arrow points to the direction it is about to head to. Two speakers on either side of the bullet box will highlight. Upon activating, a flurry of notes on that side will shoot upwards. The battle music will only play on the same side as the currently active speaker (if the player's sound system supports stereo). The bullet box will flash red before pillars resembling the likes of audio players rise quickly. Strategy
In order to spare Goosic, you must first use the ACTs "Needle" then "Vibe." Goosic will calm down and the two of you will vibe to music together :)

- #44Macro Froggit.
Keys: Macro Froggit.
Macro Froggit is a secret enemy that can be encountered in a hidden room in Steamworks by using all three golden items.
Appearance
Macro Froggit is, as the name suggests, a significantly larger than usual Froggit.
Personality
Macro Froggit only speaks in capital letters, usually separating each letter with an additional space, as befitting of its large size. It is still shown to be a happy frog through one of its lines including a ":D" emoticon. Macro Froggit is visibly scared of Mega Froggit.
Main Story Neutral Route
In the room with a time-telling robot in Steamworks, there is a hidden switch on the bottom-right wall. Pressing this opens a doorway in the room to the north, which contains three empty pedestals, a pedestal with a golden flower on it, and a save point.
If Clover places the Golden Pear, Golden Coffee, and Golden Cactus on the three pedestals (in any order), a large door in the back of the room opens up and a Micro Froggit leaps out and attacks. However, this Micro Froggit cannot be stomped on, and will immediately leave the battle to be replaced by Macro Froggit.
After collecting five green frog bullets over the course of Macro Froggit's attacks, Macro Froggit stops attacking. However, the green frog counter increases, indicating the presence of a sixth frog to collect. Concerned, Macro Froggit emits a worried (but still macro) ribbit, and moves aside for a Mega Froggit to appear with a mega croak. The Mega Froggit has a human form with extremely prominent muscles, and first appears in a flexing pose before handing Clover the sixth green frog for "collection time". After collecting it, the screen fades to white, and Clover is teleported, briefly unconscious, back out of the room with the additional appearance of a large chest containing Golden Bandana.
Pacifist Route
If Ceroba is following Clover, she does not follow them into the Macro Froggit room, and seems unable to perceive the room's existence at all. She comments "Where'd you go? It's like I blinked and lost you. Well, uh, don't do that again." if Clover simply exited, or "Clover? You okay? Did you faint or something? Hey, we can take a break soon, alright? (That was strange...)" if Macro Froggit was defeated.
Genocide Route
After placing the 3 golden items on the pedestals the door behind them will open but no encounter with Micro/Macro Froggit will play out. Instead, the Golden Bandana chest will be thrown in front of the player.
In Battle Attacks
Many flies appear flying across the bullet board while frogs walk across the top and bottom, occasionally extending their tongues to catch flies. Two non-damaging traffic lanes cover the bullet board with frogs driving cars across them, going right to left in the top lane and left to right in the bottom lane. At the end of the attack, a green frog vertically crosses the bullet board from the bottom up. A wave of flies enters the bullet board from every side, with each fly stopping and then homing at the SOUL, identical to Final Froggit's attack. Several wooden rafts cross the bottom of the bullet board, each one having four frogs on it, who occassionally leap upwards two at the time. A green frog replaces one of the frogs on the rafts. On each side of the screen, a comically oversized fly with a hat and a gun appears before both flies begin to fly around and fire bullets at each other, which are telegraphed with crosshairs. The background of the bullet board gains the texture of a starry sky and a frog in a spaceship with headphones appears on the right, firing energy bolts at the SOUL while meteoroids appear from the left. Whenever an energy shot hits one of the meteoroids, it bursts into four smaller rocks. A green frog replaces one of the meteoroids at the end of the attack. Another fly with a gun appears on the left side of the bullet board while two frogs appear at the bottom and leap towards the SOUL while the fly shoots at it. A backward-facing frog waves a conductor's wand from the bottom of the screen while musical notes fly upwards from the bottom and platforms travel across the sides, each one having a white, blue, orange or green frog, with those frogs occassionally leaping towards the SOUL. A frog with a long scarf, a sword and a shield runs across the bottom of the screen and occassionally leaps at the SOUL or swings its sword, creating three crescent projectiles in a fan-like pattern. An angry frog piloting a large mech suit attacks the SOUL with its fists, which cause shockwaves whenever they hit the ground. The player must move the SOUL in front of the mech's cockpit while it's preparing to punch in order for the mech's fist to hit the cockpit twice, breaking it and causing the frog that pilots it to turn green. Strategy
Macro Froggit can be spared by touching five green frogs during its attacks. After this, the Mega Froggit will appear and give Clover a sixth green frog, which they automatically collect. Micro Froggit will run away before you're given a chance to attack, and you will always deal 0 damage to Macro Froggit. Flavor Text

Trivia After the Steamworks is completed in a Pacifist Route, all enemies in the area appear as scattered NPCs, including Sousborg. However, because Sousborg and the room he appears in are exclusive to the Neutral Route, his NPC form cannot actually be seen without save file editing. As an NPC, Sousborg explains to Clover the reasoning for his French accent and other variations in monster culture, that being that monsters originated from many different locations before they were all trapped underneath Mt. Ebott.[1]
- #46Guardener.
Keys: Guardener
Guardener is the miniboss of the Steamworks, encountered in the Greenhouse.
The Guardener is a tall robot with large pistons for arms, red eyes, a Royal Guard Sign on her torso, and a thick cylinder on her head that gives the appearance of a hat. She is evidently quite old due to the obvious damage (in particular her missing legs, which appear to have been torn off), coupled with the overgrown flora on top of her head.
Personality
The Guardener is a defense-robot first, protecting the Steamworks' garden as if it were her own kin. Upon finding one of the flowers squished, she first labels Clover as a level-3 threat, before quickly escalating the situation to a level-10 and attempting to execute them immediately. The Guardener isn't very social either, as when the backup robots asked to be called "just to hang out," they were met with silence.
However, that isn't to say that the Guardener isn't a complete murder-happy nature machine, as shown when 3 had arrived late and gave it a flower as a consolation prize, allowing it to still attack even when it had showed up late. She is also shown to be polite, being very calm with Clover and Ceroba before accidentally labeling them as a level-10 threat due to a malfunction. Though after the battle, she could not understand why her creator, the head office or anyone else at Steamworks was unavailable for her report, and regretted ever waking up.
Main Story Neutral/Pacifist Route
Guardener ambushes Clover and Ceroba Ketsukane when they are leaving the Greenhouse. Because they trampled on the white flowers on the path before her, she tries to report them to staff for a level 3 offense, but malfunctions and accidentally reports it as a "LEVEL 10 THREAT" which is punished by extermination. If Clover defeats her by fighting, as she dies, she states that while Clover may not care about the flowers, but to her, "the garden" is beautiful. If Clover defeats her by correcting her malfunction, Guardener realizes the current state of the area and tries and fails to correctly report the offense as a level 3 and contact her creator (of unknown identity) before noticing her surroundings. Realizing her "day has passed", she leaves Clover alone and chooses to hibernate, stating that "life was better not knowing".
During the Neutral ending fight, she is summoned to serve as an attack.
At the end of the True Pacifist ending, she is still shown hibernating as one of her Backups is seen holding a flower before leaving with another robot.
Genocide Route
When Clover gets to Guardener, she can be seen being told by Axis to stay put in order to be safe from them. When she sees them, she quickly goes back into the ground. Thus, her fight gets skipped.
In Battle During Guardener's battle, she will ensnare Clover in white vines, incapacitating the FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, and MERCY buttons. They can be released by pressing each of them three times, which will waste a turn each time.
Attacks
A piston arm descends from the top of the left side of the box. A piston arm descends from the top of the right side of the box, only extending halfway down before retracting, and a piston arm ascends from the bottom of the right side of the box that extends halfway up before retracting. A single piston will be released horizontally, followed by 4 plants that shoot a pellet upwards. A single plant will bud followed by three pistons extending leftward that progressively get lower from the top of the bullet box. None of these pistons touch the flower. A gear in a random corner will repeatedly shoot pellets in eight directions at a consistent interval. A gear slides into the middle of the bullet box and spews continuous lasers while spinning in one direction. At a point in time, it reverses its direction. A gear slides from the bottom before a piston crushes it, making the gear explode into large fragments. A gear slides in a horizontal direction into its respective corner. A piston then extends vertically from the opposite vertical side to crush the gear into seven bits that will rise up before falling. Bits will arc toward the opposite side horizontally. Plants will grow from every side, each one shooting one pellet, in counterclockwise order starting from the left part of the bottom side. Each side fits three plants. Two mini-robots will be summoned. The one on the right (hereby referred to as Righty) will go to the SOUL's vertical position and shoot its pistol, firing a bullet horizontally. The one on the left (hereby referred to as Lefty) will go to that same vertical position with a slight delay and hold out a shield, which breaks the bullet and splits it into three fragments going right at either a 45 degree angle either way or without an angle. Each fragment has a different angle. This cycle repeats four times. The robots will throw an assortment of items like axes, swords, and cement bricks. Two pistons from the top-right and bottom-left will extend vertically, extending halfway across the box before stopping. Lefty will fire a bow and arrow toward the SOUL with projectiles affected by gravity. If on the right, Righty will fire its pistol in the same manner as the previous gun attack, but the bullet shatters when it hits the piston. Lefty will fire four times before the attack ends. A third robot will appear after the other two robots have left. It will appear on the left-side of the bullet box with a gun. It will aim at the SOUL with a red line indicating the shot, and will stop aiming a moment before shooting. It shoots 11 times. The two robots will return and throw grenades and dynamite which will explode a moment after entering the bullet box. Strategy
Clover needs to release all 4 buttons to be able to use the 3 other ACTs. Clover is then able to spare Guardener by Pleading 5 times to fully lower their offense level. Going for the ITEM button first allows Clover to use healing items, as no other buttons can provide high HP restoration.
The attack pattern will not change, so remember which turn you are on and look at the attacks in preparation. However, on the 9th turn, the attack will randomize until all menus have been clipped. Only then will the pattern continue.
On the turn that you get all menus free, the two-piston attack with Lefty and Right will start. It is highly recommended to choose the top-left, as Righty can't shoot if you're behind an arm. However, if you choose the bottom-right, not only can Lefty hit you, but Righty can shoot his bullets which WILL shatter and you will need to dodge the fragments alongside the arrows.

- #47Dina.
Keys: Dina
Dina is a vendor in the Wild East. Being the bartender in the saloon, she sells a variety of consumables.
This Town] Oh this little place? It's pretty fun 'round here. I heard it was established some years back when the Dunes gained its name if you get me. I should be polished on its history but Star don't talk 'bout those days. I was lookin' for a friendly environment to share my brewin' skills, so here I am. There ain't terribly much to do in this town but that only makes it more close-knit. Every day has been pretty predictable until you showed up. I'm eager to see what Star's plannin'. [Your snakes] Haha, I get this question a lot. These fellas are my pets. Real reptiles, not monsters. Their names are Ann, Sammy, and Bert. The Underground still houses some critters from the Surface like birds and insects. I found these west of here, hidin' in a crevasse of sorts. Some monsters think keepin' pets is strange but I think it's cute. They give me someone to talk to when business is slow. [Can I leave?] You can at any time. Won't hurt my feelin's. Oh... I see. Star's tryin' to keep you here since it's a big deal and all. That ain't right if you're wantin' to go. I try not to infringe on sheriff business but I'll ask him 'bout it soon. I'm sure he means well by it! [North Star] What a character! Our big and courageous sheriff. I get a feelin' he ain't as tough as he likes to play up. But then again, maybe he's just clumsy. His whole posse is a hoot. They frequently host parties here. He definitely knows the right kind of monsters to surround himself with. Not to mention Ceroba, his childhood friend. I get a kick out of her and Star's antics. When she brings her daughter into town, it's basically two against one, haha! Now that I think about it, it's been a while since I saw the rascal. We really need to get the whole gang together again! [Trying to Talk after the Feisty Four leave Starlo] It’s probably not the best time to chat. Real worried ‘bout everythin’ goin’ on right now. [Feisty Five] Was all the drama settled? It was real rough out there. The Five are like siblin's, ya know? Every now and then a spat rears its head. 'Course, most of the time it's somethin' like Mooch stealing Ed's hat or Star forgettin' to turn off his "mission machines" out in the Dunes. This was uh... This was a step above. It ain't my business but I'm sure it'll all smooth over in time... 'least I hope. Family, right? [Kanako] Ceroba's little troublemaker. Real cute kid. She likes to hand 'round us and the Five when her mom's in town. Looks dang intimidatin' in a cowboy hat too, that's for sure. Little older and she would fit right into our group! Though I don't think Ceroba would allow it seein' as we might not be the best influence, haha. Anyway, I been meanin' to ask Ceroba where Kanako's been. School field trip maybe? She does like to travel 'round the Underground. Though I wouldn't think she'd be allowed too far ever since... Ah, well, I could tell stories for hours but that's the gist of it, heh... [Government] Heard fears of Royal's bargin' into town? Your presence did cause a stir. Only natural. The government takes human business seriously. Very seriously... I'm sure you've been hunted and attacked a hundred times by now. Happens every once in a while when a human falls down here. Man, if I didn't have a business to upkeep I'd let whoever's wronged you have it! [Government (NEW)] Hey, if you're worried the town's gonna be ransacked, I wouldn't be. Royal's don't come 'round here often. I don't think they much care what we do. To my knowledge, last time any representative showed up was to post a flier on the news board. A notice for some kinda new healthcare program. Ol' Fluffybuns and his posse aren't exactly the most active group. Other than chasin' the odd human, I don't think they have anything else to spend their time on. It seems monsterkind has peaked in a way, so I reckon everyone should just come out here and spend their G on a slice of the Surface! Haha. [Chujin] Oh, Ceroba's partner? Um, well, kind of a heavy subject... He never really came 'round this town back in the day. Didn't like what it stood for. Not that the tension was one-sided. Whether it was politics or an unburied hatchet, Star didn't speak highly of the fella neither. There was one time though... It was after hours - no one here but me. BAM! Front doors swing open and in walks Chujin. He was breathin' heavy, worn n' rugged... Unusual for a cleancut monster of science. I didn't think he drank but nevertheless, he sat down and ordered a cold one. I asked if somethin' was the matter but all he said was, "I believe I've seen a ghost." Weird, huh? Like... a monster? Couldn't be what he meant, right? Who knows... Shoot, I've said too much haven't I? All in all, I wouldn't bring him up 'round Star or Ceroba. There's a lotta feelin's there, ya know... [Chujin (NEW)] Sorry but I need to be more careful of what beans I spill. It ain't becomin' to spread gossip while a widow's still in mourning. Exit
Have fun out there! [Upon exiting] Genocide Route
...I ain't gonna make you a drink if that's what you want.
I know what you did...Naive fool...I tried to warn him. And Ceroba...She lost to you? You must be feelin' real lucky. ... I have nothin' but hatred runnin' through me, but I know I wouldn't stand a chance. So here I am, cooped up while everyone else... If you aren't going to kill me, let me mourn my family in peace. Star might've only been a target to you but... He was more of a hero than you'll ever be. Now... Get out of my Saloon.
- #48Blackjack.
Keys: Blackjack.
Blackjack is a vendor in the Wild East who sells weapons and armor.
Blackjack has the following items for sale:
Gunpowder for 40 G Silver Ammo for 80 G Fancy Holster for 50 G Wild Revolver for 200 G (Clover cannot buy it, as they are a child, but later obtains it from Starlo) Profile Appearance
Blackjack is a man with bright purple skin with a large, gray handlebar mustache, wearing a desaturated dark blue hat and wearing round glasses. As for clothes, he wears a black vest, a dark purple bowtie, desaturated dark blue pants, and a black shoe. He seems to be obese and is missing his right leg, which is replaced by a wooden one.
Personality
Blackjack is your typical western blacksmith, selling items like Gunpowder and a Wild Revolver, although the latter is later given to Clover by Starlo. He's upbeat and slightly eccentric, willing to sell anything to and take anything off Clover's hands. Notably, he despises the Feisty Four, calling them "five demonic youngsters," before immediately calling other residents delightful.
He can be extremely reckless sometimes, as when Clover asks Blackjack about his wares, he flashes his revolver to Clover, then states that he has better aim with his revolvers than North Star (Starlo). Afterwards, he begins spinning his revolver, causing it to discharge in the opposite direction which startles him, dropping the gun.
He can also come off morally ambiguous, as when Clover asks about visitors, Blackjack flashes a revolver to Clover, while stating that he's not a fan of violence himself, and then asks them to not further question his morality. Furthermore, he states that he makes sure that his wares aren't lethal, but they could be since even everyday items like Ballet Shoes could be lethal as well.
He's also a hypocrite. In his shop dialogue, he mentions he isn't "selling ultra-deadly weapons with anyone with enough G." However, despite at first not wanting to sell his revolvers to Clover, he later sells the gun to Starlo for 400G without question.
Main Story Neutral Route
Pacifist Route
Blackjack can be encountered when first entering the Town. During Mission 2, Starlo goes to Blackjack's Shop to sell the Wild Revolver to Clover, Which fails, and then Starlo offers 400G to Blackjack before Clover obtains the Wild Revolver.
Genocide Route
Like most vendors, Blackjack is absent in the Genocide route. You also cannot steal any gold from him, as he’s likely taken it from his safe and brought it with him when he evacuated. The Wild Revolver is also obtained before heading into the town square, so it’s unavailable to be purchased in the shop.
Dialogue Before buying something
Greetings! Take a gander. Just don't touch anything. [Upon entrance] Change your mind? [Upon exiting a menu] Buy
Interested in anything? [While purchasing] I thank you! [On purchase] I need the proper sum... [If not enough G] You have your hands full. [If inventory is full] Sell
Thank you! I will make good use of this. Talk
Ask away! [The Feisty Five] I was hoping you wouldn’t ask about them… Sigh… Young hooligans are all they are. Hooligans I’m forced to put with to keep my business afloat. They have no respect for the fine arms I produce, always waving them around like they’re some child’s toy! However, I have learned how to benefit off their behavior. I’m the only monster around here that provides such quality weapons, so whenever they push me, I push back and threaten to close shop. They always crumble and end up paying far more than the weapon they want is worth. A little money is worth a few headaches, haha! [Your Wares] Ah yes, my gallery of babies! Uh… That sounded strange… Ahem! These beauties are all crafted from the highest quality materials! I forge them myself in my personal gunsmithing room! Not only do I make them with care, but I also care FOR them. I start my mornings by polishing the whole stock until I see my reflection in them! I also know how to handle these bad boys. I’m a way better shot than North Star, that’s for sure. (Blackjack's gun goes off) I… I saw a bandit in my rafters. [Visitors] The Wild East gets many visitors each day. There’s something about the aura here that some monsters can’t get enough of. Now, don’t worry. I’m not selling ultra-deadly weapons to any passerby with enough G. I make sure my wares are tame enough to not be lethal. I myself am not one for violence! Well… used enough times consecutively, they COULD be lethal. But then again, a ballet shoe could also be lethal used enough times. Look, don’t question my morality too much! I am not prepared to speak about it! [History] I heard about this town some years back. I had mastered my smithing capabilities and was looking to open up shop. As it turns out, there was an empty building here so I thought “why not?” Seemed like quite the perfect town for such a shop. Do I regret settling down here, resulting in endless torment from five demonic youngsters? Every day. But everyone else I’ve met is quite pleasant, so it balances out. [Trying to Talk after the Feisty Four leave Starlo] What occurred in the square? North Star just walked by my shop while staring at the ground. It isn’t a trouble of mine but… maybe you should check in on him? If you think it’s important that is. Ahem. [Your Age] How old am I? How old do I look? Believe it or not, I was born with gray hair. Got it from my father. But yes... I am what they call a "senior citizen." Which only means I am much wiser than you youngsters! Because I've been around, I do have some interesting history if you would like to hear it. [Your History (NEW)] I was born during the war. Mere weeks before our Underground imprisonment. My father was a soldier in King ASGORE's army. And a soldier was all he ever became. When my mother got the word that monsterkind had to withdraw, she refused to leave. Insisted on searching for my father instead. ...Despite pleas from officers, there was no changing her mind. I was promptly given to a nanny and raised in this very mountain. But so goes life in such circumstances. Not everyone gets it easy. I will say, these kids out here... While they can be bothersome, they are lucky. The Underground isn't ideal but from the ripples I grew up feeling, it is much better than the strife of days past. I'm thankful for that. [The Four] North Star's posse are friends of his from highschool, I believe. There, they started a club to talk about movies and dress up and go on imaginary adventures. Almost like a permanent Pumpkin Day. Some think that they're a little old to be doing such things but it's pretty harmless. ...What am I saying? It isn't harmless! They harm me almost every day! Did you know that Ace and Mooch installed a speaker system throughout the town? They use it to play little jingles and this dreadful song that loops over and over! It even changes arrangements in certain buildings! Every morning at seven they wake me up with an eagle screech! I've tried telling Ace that it's SUPPOSED to be a rooster crow but he always says "Roosters and crows can't get together like that." They COULD if it was true LOVE!!! (Pant... pant...) ... ...What were we speaking about? [Humans] Humans, huh? Well, I'm afraid there's no sugar-coating it. Humans such as yourself are widely disdained in the Underground. It's popular to root for their annihilation, even. So much loss... So much grief... The wicked actions of humankind are forever etched in our history, only to subside once King ASGORE obtains seven of their SOULs and judgment is brought upon the Surface. Then you wonder, "How can a town like the Wild East exist in such a society?" Well it isn't without its controversy. Most are indifferent, preferring not to acknowledge it. But some make their opinions very clear, stating that the town's making light of a serious situation, or even that we're traitors to monsterkind itself. Rather harsh, right? I believe everyone who participates is just fascinated with the Surface world. Whether it be historical, or plain old escapism. There's nothing wrong with finding an appreciation for such things, the way I see it. [Your Opinion (NEW)] My opinion on humans? Hmm... I've spent most of my life disliking humans outright. Justifiably so. But... as I've aged, I've pondered over my bitterness. Thought that perhaps, this feud is more nuanced than it first appears? But even with all my years, I still haven't reached the other side, if I ever will. I do know that I dislike the nature that drove humankind to do what they did. The violence, the selfishness... But that nature can reside in anyone. At the end of the day, it's about an individual's character, you see. Whether or not they carry civility and respect within their SOUL. So far, I see those traits in you, so I've given you a pass. And anyway, it would be foolish of me to eliminate a potential patron when they have money to spend, haha! [Smithing] My life's dedication! I work with steel, iron, and even a little silver and gold when I'm feeling fancy. Mining Co. is still uncovering many such materials so I buy it from them at the beginning of each month. Creating practical and beautiful items from rubble is endearing. I learned everything I know from a job in New Home where I made armor for Royal Guards. The head smith who taught me - rumor was that he helped King ASGORE forge his mighty trident. Of course, naysayers tout that it's made of pure magic but I don't believe them! You do know that ASGORE wields a trident, correct? An absolute masterwork it is! His armor is wonderfully crafted as well. I've heard it's impenetrable! Such a respectable monster must look the part and he spared no expense! Exit
