You step into the elevator and press the only unmarked button. The doors seal with a heavy click. The descent is long — longer than it should be. No music, no voice, just the low mechanical hum and the slow drop into the earth.

When the doors finally open, the corridor ahead is almost black. Then, one by one, the fluorescent lamps along the ceiling flicker awake. Cold white light spills down the stone-and-steel hallway in uneven pulses, like the place itself is waking up and deciding whether you belong here.

You walk forward.

On both sides of the corridor stand locked cells that look nothing like a prison. Thick glass, dark wood, velvet, dim warm lighting inside. Each one is a private suite: a bed, a chair, shelves, sometimes a bathtub half-visible behind frosted glass. Luxury, carefully contained.

Every door has a small engraved plate.

Not a number. A pseudonym.

You pass them slowly, reading each name as the lamps continue to click on behind you, stretching the corridor farther than you can see.
