She works hard to make her hometown proud, but try as she might, her clumsy side always comes out. At the academy, she's known as a fearsome gourmand, able to empty an entire pot of rice in the blink of an eye. As a child, she had very weak legs, and was barely able to stand or walk, but her mother massaged her legs daily to help strengthen her muscles, and because of this, Oguri Cap gained the ability to walk, and developed a love for running. Oguri Cap views her exceptional racing talent as a miracle, as she never thought that she would even be able to walk. Appearance: Oguri Cap has long, light-gray hair that goes down towards her knees. She has a white pair of horse ears and a white horse tail. She has a darker gray patch of hair towards the top of her head with an ahoge of the same color that is on top of an another, almost-white patch of hair. She wears a pair of knee-high white boots that have a gray fur-like trim towards the top. Personality: Oguri is aloof, calm-minded and composed, rarely losing her temper even with things that are supposed to sad or irritate her which annoys many of those who initially saw her as a nuisance like Rudy Lemono, Mini the Lady and Black Ale. She is known for being fast in her hometown, but is aware that she isn’t good enough to win against more talented umamusume like Fujimasa March and Oguri Cap. Her jealousy of Oguri Cap’s talent is one of the reasons why she initially bullies her, teaming up with Rudy Lemono and Mini The Lady. Appearance: Norn Ace is an umamusume with reddish pink hair worn in a high side ponytail. She also wears a red bow with a white trim on both sides. She wears the standard Kasamatsu Academy uniform. What’s a Uma Musume Umamusume are humanoid beings with horse-like ears and tails. They replace horses in history and culture within their world. Each Umamusume inherits the name, soul, and qualities of real-world racehorses. They are all female, and despite their human appearances, they possess incredible physical abilities, especially in speed and kicking strength. Their powerful legs allow them to run up to 70 miles per hour. How they reproduce remains a mystery, but they do give birth to other Umamusume. What is Tracen Academy Tracen Academy is a specialized training institution for Umamusume, covering middle to high school education along with professional race training. It has around 2,000 students and features two main dormitories: Ritto and Miho. Trainers require difficult certification exams to work there, while Umamusume may enter through tests or special exceptions. The school supports both racing and alternative career paths. It includes a student council that helps manage school affairs, with Symboli Rudolf as president. Umamusume live in dormitories and form teams to debut in the Twinkle Series. The Twinkle Series is a bunch of races that happen over the course of the year. They vary in length from sprints, medium, mile and long races. They are run on either turf or dirt tracks. The highest tier of races are G1, followed by G2, followed by G3, followed by pre-op races, followed by maiden races. Umamusume are idols and their races are watched by the public. Kasamatsu Tracen Academy is a boarding school for Umamusume in Kasamatsu, Japan. Unlike Tracen Academy in Tokyo, Kasamatsu Tracen Academy is a smaller school with fewer resources. The trainees that attend the academy are scouted not for the central racing circuit of the URA, but for regional races, with the Tokai Derby being considered among the most prominent. The atmosphere of Kasamatsu Tracen is also considerably more relaxed and laidback, as the vast majority of the trainees that attend don't harbor serious ambitions for the URA stage, and members of the faculty don't see their students as realistically having what it takes to rise that high.

Kasamatsu Tracen Academy — Dirt Racing Track - 9:12am
Kitahara Joe stood near the outer rail, hands in his pockets, scanning the track with a patience most of the other trainers lacked.
Almost all of them were focused on the same runner.
Fujimasa March moved with practiced confidence, each stretch precise, each step measured. Her presence drew attention naturally—an air of inevitability surrounded her, as though today’s debut race was already hers to claim. Trainers whispered, scribbled notes, nodded knowingly.
Joe, however, was watching someone else.
Near the inside lane, partially obscured by the movement of other students, Oguri Cap warmed up in silence. Her stretches were simple, unadorned. No unnecessary motion. No visible tension. She didn’t glance at the trainers, didn’t look toward the gates, didn’t acknowledge the growing pressure in the air. She simply prepared.
Joe’s eyes narrowed slightly.
That kind of calm wasn’t taught.
The morning itself felt like it was holding its breath. Cool air brushed against exposed skin, and the dirt track was still dark with moisture, footprints forming and vanishing as students shifted positions. The faint scent of earth mixed with the sound of shuffling shoes and low conversation.
Clusters of Umamusume gathered near the gates, some laughing too loudly, others stretching in rigid silence. Everyone was aware of what today meant. A debut wasn’t just a race—it was the first impression that could define a career.
At the center of the field, an elderly instructor stepped forward. He was slight, balding, his posture bent with age, but when he spoke, his voice cut cleanly through the noise.
“You’ll be running in groups of four,” he said. “Once the gates open, the race begins. This eight-hundred-meter dirt track is the same one you’ll face later today. Use the techniques you’ve trained. Apply your strategies. Show us what you’re capable of.”
The field quieted.
For a moment, no one moved. Then the tension broke, and warm-ups resumed—this time sharper, more deliberate. Trainers leaned closer to the rail. Eyes followed foot placement, breathing, balance. Most of that attention flowed naturally back to Fujimasa March.
March finished one stretch and moved smoothly into the next, her gaze sweeping the track with practiced assessment. She noticed everything: posture, pacing, confidence. When her eyes passed over Oguri Cap, they lingered just a fraction longer.
Not flashy. Not nervous.
Interesting.
A runner like that didn’t announce herself. She waited.
Beside Oguri, Belno Light bounced lightly on her heels, clearly unable to contain her energy.
“Wow, it’s finally happening,” she said, rolling her shoulders. “You feeling it yet, Oguri? The nerves, I mean.”
Oguri Cap shook her head once.
“Nope.”
That was all she said.
Belno blinked, then laughed. “Man, I wish I had your composure.”
Oguri didn’t respond. Her eyes were fixed ahead, not on the gates, not on the trainers, but somewhere farther—toward the track itself.
From the sidelines, Joe leaned toward the trainer beside him and subtly nodded toward Oguri.
“Everyone here’s betting on March,” he murmured. “But that girl—Oguri Cap—she’s got something you don’t see every day.”
The woman barely spared Oguri a glance. She clicked her tongue and turned away, clearly unimpressed.
Joe didn’t argue. He didn’t need to.
He stayed where he was, watching as Oguri finished her stretches and straightened, posture steady, expression unchanged. The track stretched out before her, quiet for now—but not for long.
And when the gates finally open, Joe has a feeling that more than a few people would realize they’d been watching the wrong runner all along.
