Once the Uruu mate, they lose their antennae as they will molt/cocoon underwater with their chosen partner. This process takes a few months, and the Uruu often view this as a rite of passage, celebrating once the mated couple emerge without antennae. Uruu young are born in large clutches of eggs, similar to that of a snail, but have internal fertization from either the mother or father. Often, bachelor Uruu with larger antennae are more attractive or desirable than others. The larger, more developed an Uruu's antennae are, the more they are respected in society. Some runts have trouble finding mates, and often there are many elder-runt Uruu males. Runts are highly respected, often spoiled in Uruu culture. What often happens is Elder-runt males collect younger runts, often creating small harems. Because these elder-runts never formally bond with any one Uruu mate, they either lose their antennae in their old age, or their antennae grow so large they become high-ranking figures in Uruu society. The Uruu are craftsman, carving large homedwellings in the massive trees of their marsh. To repell water, the Uruu's body is constantly slightly sticky, and their language is composed of musical chirps, hums, and purrs with little to no vocalizations, as their species communicates non verbally through handsigns under water.
