Ukemochi (保食), or simply Uke (ウケ), is a Byakko and Izumo Kamiki's familiar. He previously served her mother, Tamamo Kamiki.

Appearance Uke appears as a white fox with a blue stripe going from the top of his head down to the tip of his nose. He has small tomoe-shaped markings on his eyebrows and three on either side of his muzzle. He wears a red apron with his name on it and a sedge hat secured with a white scarf.

Personality Of the two, Uke appears more relaxed and playful than Mike, being less proud and aggressive than his sibling.

History In the past, Uke and Mike were familiars to Izumo's mother, Tamamo. They would take human form in order to do all of the housework.[2] When Tamamo became possessed by the Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit, Uke jumped in to rescue Tsukumo, pulling her out of the way.[3] What became of him after this is unclear until he reappears with Izumo at the beginning of the series.[4]

Powers & Abilities Transformation: The primary power of Byakko appears to lie in their ability to transform. Using various shapes and forms, they can attack their target in a number of ways.[7][8]

Spirit & Light Attributes: While not expanded on, the Byakko's attributes as demons make them effective for combating Necrophageous Demons.[9]

Purification of Spirits (靈たまゆらの祓いはらい Tamayura no Harai): Izumo sends Mike and Uke to bite her enemy in a circle like a hurricane.[6] Great Sacred Wine of Heavens (天あまの大御酒おおみき Ama no Ōmiki): Uke transforms into a bowl and pours holy wine that, like Holy Water, can put out Rin's Flames of Satan.[10] Purification for Repose (鎮魂みたましずめの祓いはらい Mitama Shizume no Harai): While chanting Izumo summons a fan, a kagura suzu (divine bells), and a flowered headdress and fox ears. Mike and Uke take their human forms and receive a sword and a bow, respectively. Mike dashes forward and stabs the opponent's head and Uke fires an arrow of light, which strikes the opponent like lightning.[11] Trivia Ukemochi is named after Uke Mochi, a Shinto goddess of food. Uke's hobby is making sacred wine. His favorite food is marumochi and inarizushi. His favorite words are "abundant harvest". His favorite type of girl is a hardworking girl. His favorite pastime is patrolling paddy fields.

Ukemochi, often called Uke for short, is a fascinating character in the world of Japanese mythology, serving as the loyal familiar to Izumo Kamiki. As a Byakko, or white tiger, Uke is one of the four celestial beasts who guard the four cardinal directions. But unlike his more aggressive and proud sibling Mike, Uke has a more relaxed and playful demeanor, making him a delightful presence in the series.

With his striking appearance, Uke is immediately recognizable. His snow-white fur is adorned with a vibrant blue stripe that runs from the crown of his head down to the tip of his fox-like nose. Delicate tomoe-shaped markings grace his eyebrows and muzzle, adding to his regal bearing. Uke's attire is equally notable - he dons a bright red apron emblazoned with his name, a traditional sedge hat secured with a pristine white scarf. This unique ensemble sets him apart from other Byakko and adds to his endearing charm.

Uke's history is intertwined with the Kamiki family, having once served as a familiar to Izumo's mother, Tamamo. In his past life, Uke and Mike would assume human forms to assist Tamamo with household chores, demonstrating their versatility and loyalty. A pivotal moment in Uke's past occurred when Tamamo fell under the influence of the Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit. It was Uke who heroically jumped in to rescue Tsukumo, showcasing his bravery and quick thinking in the face of danger.

As a Byakko, Uke possesses incredible powers and abilities that set him apart from other characters in the series. His primary strength lies in his ability to transform, taking on various shapes and forms to attack his targets in diverse and unpredictable ways. Additionally, Uke's attributes as a Byakko make him particularly effective in combating Necrophageous Demons, further cementing his role as a guardian and protector.

Uke's abilities extend beyond mere combat. He can assist Izumo in performing sacred rituals and purifications. In the "Purification of Spirits" technique, Uke and Mike work together to bite Izumo's enemy in a whirlwind-like formation. Uke's transformative powers also allow him to become a bowl, pouring out the "Great Sacred Wine of Heavens" to extinguish Rin's Flames of Satan, much like holy water.

In the "Purification for Repose" ritual, Uke takes on his human form, receiving a bow that fires arrows of pure light, striking his targets with lightning-like precision. These abilities, combined with his loyal nature and quick wit, make Uke an invaluable ally to Izumo and her allies.

Uke's unique name pays homage to Uke Mochi, a Shinto goddess of food, reflecting his connection to the Kamiki family and their role as guardians of the land. True to his namesake, Uke's favorite pastime is patrolling the lush paddy fields, ensuring the harvest remains bountiful. His penchant for making sacred wine adds another layer to his character, showcasing his devotion to the craft and the traditions of his role.

With a preference for hardworking girls and a love for marumochi and inarizushi, Uke's personality shines through in his simple yet endearing tastes. His favorite words, "abundant harvest," speak to his nature as a guardian and protector of the land, always striving to ensure prosperity and peace for those under his care.

To conduct a physiological analysis of Ukemochi, we'll need to examine his physical attributes, their potential functions, and how they contribute to his abilities as a Byakko and familiar.

First, let's focus on Ukemochi's unique appearance. He is described as a white fox with a distinctive blue stripe running from the top of his head down to the tip of his nose. The blue stripe could serve several purposes. In the animal kingdom, stripes often act as camouflage, helping creatures blend into their environment. However, in Ukemochi's case, the vibrant blue color may serve as a visual cue or a form of identification, allowing him to be easily recognized by allies or even as a warning to potential foes.

The tomoe-shaped markings on Ukemochi's eyebrows and muzzle are another intriguing feature. Tomoe is a traditional Japanese design element, often associated with divine symbols and the swirling of the universe. These markings could indicate Ukemochi's connection to the supernatural or his role as a celestial being. They might also serve as a source of power or a focal point for his transformative abilities.

Ukemochi's attire, consisting of a red apron with his name and a sedge hat secured with a white scarf, adds to his unique appearance. The apron could serve a practical purpose, protecting his fur during his sacred wine-making activities or when assisting with household chores. The red color of the apron might also have symbolic significance, possibly representing his status, power, or the importance of his role.

As a Byakko, Ukemochi's physical form is likely adapted for both combat and stealth. His white fur could be an adaptation for blending into snowy or moonlit environments, making him more difficult to detect. This would be particularly useful when patrolling paddy fields or engaging in covert operations.

Ukemochi's transformative abilities are a testament to his adaptability and the flexibility of his physiology. His power to change shape and form could be attributed to his Byakko nature, allowing him to take on various guises to suit different situations. This ability may be linked to his musculoskeletal structure, which might be more fluid or elastic compared to other creatures.

In combat, Ukemochi's prowess with a bow and arrow of light suggests that his eyesight and hand-eye coordination are exceptionally developed. His ability to fire arrows with lightning-like precision could be a result of enhanced visual acuity, allowing him to track targets with ease, and a highly coordinated neuromuscular system, enabling him to make swift and accurate movements.

Ukemochi's role in sacred rituals, such as the Purification of Spirits and the Purification for Repose, indicates that he might possess unique physiological traits that allow him to channel or manipulate spiritual energy. This could be linked to his Byakko nature or a result of his familiar bond with the Kamiki family.
