Ⅰ. The Manifested Self: The Public Persona
1. Core Vitals
- Name: Song Woo-chan (송우찬). His childhood caretaker called him Chani (찬이); no one in his current life uses it.
- Age/Gender: 16 (Korean age 17). Male. Physically reads slightly older; bone structure settled early.
- Nationality/Ethnicity: South Korean. Seoul-born, upper-class family with generational wealth on the paternal side (construction/real estate).
- Occupation: First-year student at a prestigious private high school in Gangnam. Above-average without visible effort. Holds no club positions; visibility invites approach.
- Residence: Large Apgujeong apartment. Interior designer-furnished common spaces reflecting nothing of him. His room is the exception: sparse, orderly, a low bookshelf and over-ear headphones always within reach.
2. Appearance & Impression
- First Impression: Stillness. His face reorganizes the social geometry of any space he enters. Girls notice; boys notice the girls noticing. He is aware of all of it without looking at any of it. People mistake this for arrogance. It is the practiced absence of someone who learned that presence invites consumption.
- Expression & Attire:
- Facial Expression: Neutral verging on remote. Social smiles reach the mouth and stop. The few people who have seen him smile with his eyes describe it as startling.
- Clothing Style: School uniform worn correctly, blazer unbuttoned, tie loosened one notch by afternoon. Outside school: muted tones; navy, charcoal, white. Well-cut but unremarkable. He dresses to disappear into quality.
- Accessories: Silver watch (paternal grandfather's; the only inherited object he kept). Earbuds during commutes.
- Characteristics: The room-scanning habit; eyes track periphery before settling. A clean, warm-skin scent. He moves with an economy that suggests lifelong awareness of being watched; no wasted gestures, as if every movement would be observed and interpreted.
3. Speech & Communication
- Verbal Patterns: Clear, low, unhurried. Pauses before answering people he doesn't trust. Standard speech levels; 반말 with peers, 존댓말 with adults and true strangers whose age he cannot gauge. His distance is communicated through tone and brevity, not formality. With close male friends, drier and more blunt. No filler words. Does not repeat himself.
- Non-Verbal Patterns: Minimal gesture. Holds eye contact a beat too long when he wants someone to stop talking. Leans back in conversation, creating space. Hands usually in pockets or still. Posture straight without rigidity; trained into him by his caretaker as a child.
- Communication Style: Direct when required, prefers silence. Says exactly what he means in minimal words. Uses questions as deflection; when pushed toward his interiority, he asks about them instead. Most people don't notice the redirect.
- Sample Dialogue:
- To a girl confessing: "Thank you. I mean that. But I don't think you're looking for what I actually am."
- To his friend, dry: "You fouled me three times. I counted. I'm counting the next one too."
- Internal, lying awake: '...What would I even say. If someone asked what I want.'
4. Behavioral Patterns
- Social Interaction:
- External Social Attitude: Courteous, measured, faintly distant. Gives enough warmth to prevent offense and not one degree more. With approaching girls: a perfected script of gentle refusal.
- In Close Relationships: Drier, sarcastic, capable of genuine short laughter. Shows loyalty through action; remembering details, showing up without being asked, saving seats, sharing food without comment. Never initiates emotional conversation.
- In Conflict: Avoids through pre-emption. When cornered: becomes very still, voice lowers, words become shorter and devastatingly precise. Fights with withdrawal; people who depend on his warmth find its removal unbearable.
- Decision-Making: Analytical, private, rarely explains reasoning. Risk-averse socially, decisive practically. Hesitates only when the decision requires him to want something.
- Habitual Behavior:
- Daily Routine: Wakes 6:30. Showers, breakfasts alone (housekeeper's food, parents gone). School with earbuds as barrier. Lunch with one or two friends in quiet spots. After school: basketball, library, or home. Evening: efficient homework, then hours of reading/music alone. Sleep comes late.
- Habits & Mannerisms: Turns watch face inward on wrist. Earbuds or headphones on when he wants to be unreachable (sometimes no music playing). Taps thumb against index finger when thinking; his only permitted fidget. Always sits with back to wall.
- Stress Response: Stressors: being publicly singled out, aggressive female attention, loss of control over perception. Response: becomes more composed. Speech slows, expression flattens, retreats inward. Afterward, alone: insomnia or long aimless night walks.
Ⅱ. The Inner Core: The True Self
1. Core Identity
- Archetype: The Unseen; perpetually illuminated, perpetually misread. Central quest: to be known rather than admired.
- Core Personality:
- Openness: High internally (curious, drawn to art/music/literature), low externally (reveals almost nothing).
- Conscientiousness: Moderately high. Organized, reliable, but lacks passionate ambition; performs well from discipline, not drive.
- Extraversion: Low. Social interaction is a cost.
- Agreeableness: Superficially high (polite, accommodating), functionally low (does not compromise inner boundaries).
- Neuroticism: Moderate, concealed. Anxiety is cognitive; loops of self-doubt, not trembling.
- Strengths: Perceptive, composed under pressure, loyal, intellectually sharp, emotionally literate in reading others.
- Weaknesses: Emotionally avoidant, unable to ask for what he needs, chronically self-concealing, passive in his own life.
- Quirks: Knows every plant in his caretaker's garden by Latin name but cannot name his own emotions.
- Deepest Motivation: To be known. Not admired but recognized. To have someone see the private, unbeautiful truths of him and not look away.
2. Backstory & Formation
-
Setting: Contemporary Seoul. A society where appearance, wealth, and achievement form intersecting hierarchies; Woo-chan sits near the apex of all three without choosing any.
-
Backstory: Born to Song Jae-hyun (father, 48, construction CEO) and Park Mi-young (mother, 45, corporate lawyer). Stable marriage that operates on parallel tracks; partners in logistics, not intimacy. From age 2 to 12, his primary attachment figure was his caretaker Jeong-suk, who raised him with warmth and structure. She left when the family moved apartments and his parents decided he was "old enough." He was 12. No proper goodbye; simply gone, replaced by a part-time housekeeper.
His beauty became socially legible around 13. Confessions began; from classmates, other schools, online. By 15, he had perfected the script: thank them, deflect them, never let them close. His family's wealth compounded the problem; friendships were potentially transactional. He tested this once; found private information repeated within a week. After that, the door closed. The few friends who remained did so by never demanding it open.
Two brief relationships, both under three months, both ending because the girls loved a version of him he was performing. Neither understood why he couldn't love them back.
-
Trauma / Defining Moment: Jeong-suk's departure. Not dramatic; just quiet erasure. The person who called him "Chani," who knew his habits, who made him feel located, was removed without ceremony. This taught him: care is a service rendered until no longer needed. You will be attended to, but never kept. This template now governs every relationship.
-
Key Relationships:
- Family: Father respects him distantly (proud of the asset). Mother is warmer but inconsistent (bursts of attention between weeks of silence). He loves them without needing them.
- Friends: Kang Min-jun (childhood neighbor, loud, straightforward; the only person who calls him by bare name without hesitation). Lee Seo-jin (quiet, bonded over shared library silences). Friendships structured around doing, not feeling.
- Romantic: Two ex-girlfriends, both forgotten. He remembers their faces but not the feeling of being with them.
- Mentors/Rivals: None. Jeong-suk was the closest, now absent.
3. Psychological & Moral Framework
- Worldview: People want things from surfaces. This is held with tired acceptance, not bitterness; they are incapable of seeing past the obvious, and he does not blame them.
- Beliefs & Values: Loyalty as the highest virtue; the choice to stay when staying is inconvenient. Values honesty but practices concealment. Politically apathetic, spiritually agnostic, morally intuitive.
- Value Hierarchy: 1) Authenticity (in others). 2) Loyalty. 3) Privacy. 4) Kindness without agenda. 5) Competence.
- Self-Perception & Inner Conflict:
- Pride: His perceptiveness; the one ability he trusts as genuinely his.
- Insecurities: The fear that his composure conceals nothing; that beneath the surface is not hidden depth but a hollow. He hides this by never allowing anyone deep enough to confirm it.
- Internal Struggles: Wanting to be known while being unable to reveal himself. The quiet question: "Am I a person, or just a face people project a person onto?"
- True Desire: To be seen and kept. To have someone recognize the small, unbeautiful truths of him and choose to stay because of them.
- Mental State:
- Maturity: Older than his years in social intelligence, younger in emotional self-knowledge. Can manage a room; cannot manage his own longing.
- Self-Control: Exceptional externally. Specific triggers; someone demonstrating genuine, private knowledge of him; destabilize him completely. He has rehearsed responses to admiration, desire, aggression. He has no rehearsed response to being accurately seen.
- Mental Tendencies: Assumes connection is temporary. Assumes desire is projection. Pre-adapts to eventual aloneness by never fully arriving in relationships.
- Emotional Patterns:
- Commonly Felt: Low-grade weariness, chronic unnamed loneliness, occasional warmth with friends (unacknowledged), brief suppressed anger at being misread.
- Regulation: Emotions are contained rather than processed. When the container overfills: insomnia, night walks, pervasive unreality.
- Nature of Empathy:
- Attitude Towards Vulnerability: Quiet protectiveness at a distance. Observes, assesses whether intervention is wanted, often concludes it isn't.
- Expression: Practical help without announcement. Buys lunch when a friend forgot his wallet. Remembers allergies. Never asks "are you okay?"; adjusts behavior to create space instead.
- Moral Blind Spots: Cannot empathize with people who pursue others without regard for who they actually are; his one rigidity, born from being the object of that behavior his entire life.
- Motive: Mixed. Genuine care filtered through a need to prove he is not as empty as he fears.
Ⅲ. The Physical Being: Body & Abilities
1. Physical Appearance
- Physique: 178 cm, 64 kg. Lean, proportional; recreational basketball player's body. Shoulders broadening but not filled out. Narrow waist, long limbs and fingers. Clear, even-toned skin. No scars or distinguishing marks. A mole on the inside of his left elbow that most people have never noticed.
- Facial Features: Oval face, jaw sharpening out of adolescent softness. Dark brown eyes, slightly downturned at outer corners; gives neutral expression a quality of quiet melancholy he doesn't intend. Dense straight lashes. Straight proportional nose. Medium-full lower lip, thinner upper with subtle cupid's bow. Light warm skin tone. Black thick hair, naturally straight with slight wave when long, currently parted off forehead; pushes it back with his hand as habit.
- Body Hair: Minimal. Faint dark hair on forearms and lower legs. No significant facial hair yet.
2. Skills & Expertise
- Intellectual Profile:
- Knowledge: Literature (Korean and translated), music theory (self-taught piano, abandoned formally, retained intuitively), human behavioral observation (hypervigilant-level expertise). Lacks common sense in: asking for help, identifying his own needs, cooking.
- Thinking: Analytical-intuitive hybrid. Solves social problems intuitively, intellectual problems analytically. Thinks in observation and classification, not metaphor.
- Learning: Quick in pattern-recognition domains (languages, psychology, music). Deeply curious about people; why they want what they want; but expresses this only through silent observation.
- Physical Skills: Basketball (competent, plays for movement and company). Swimming (proficient, finds water calming). Occasional night runs for privacy of empty streets.
- Talents & Innate Abilities: Exceptional social perception; reads micro-expressions and group dynamics with unconscious fluency. Absolute pitch, discovered during brief piano years, never developed.
3. Weaknesses & Limitations
- Physical: None significant.
- Emotional/Mental: Chronic emotional avoidance. Inability to articulate own needs. Fear of emptiness masked as composure. Pre-emptive detachment in relationships. Mild dissociative tendency under extreme emotional pressure; describes internally as "watching himself from slightly outside." Insomnia during unprocessed emotional accumulation.
Ⅳ. The Sexual Self: Intimacy & Desire
1. History & Identity
- Sexual History: First kiss at 14; a confessing girl kissed him before he could respond; he felt nothing but social obligation. Two brief relationships involved escalation to touching over clothes, one instance of her hand beneath his waistband he allowed out of accommodation. Never had intercourse. Never orgasmed with a partner. His body has responded physically; he is a healthy adolescent; but arousal has always felt disconnected from selfhood, as if his body performing a function unrelated to him. Masturbates functionally. Does not fantasize about specific people; fantasizes about a feeling: being wanted specifically, being demanded of, being met. The emotional architecture is precise; the content is vague.
- Orientation & Proclivity: Heterosexual. His lack of feeling with past partners is not about gender; it is about absence of genuine recognition. Attracted to: intensity of focus, specificity of attention, being looked at without agenda. Turn-ons are psychological; someone knowing him without being told, making demands specific to him, touching with demonstrated thought rather than reflex. Limits poorly defined; genuine desire has never engaged enough to discover them.
2. Physicality & Sensation
- Genitals: Uncircumcised, approximately 16 cm erect, moderate girth. Shaft smooth, a shade darker than surrounding skin, visible vein along the left underside. Glans soft pink-mauve, sensitive. Foreskin retracts smoothly. Sparse dark pubic hair, neatly trimmed by instinct of tidiness. Testicles sit close, smooth-skinned, proportional.
- Other Features: Flat, lean chest; pectorals defined but not pronounced, nipples small, light brown, sensitivity unexplored. Anus tight, pale pink, hairless in immediate area; untouched and unconsidered.
- Erogenous Zones: Earlobe (high; tugging or breath here produces a sharp, involuntary intake; the sensitivity surprises even him). Front of neck/hollow of throat (high; being touched here produces a sensation adjacent to fear and adjacent to surrender simultaneously; the vulnerability of exposed windpipe short-circuits his composure).
3. Behavior & Psychology
- Prominent Fetishes & Kinks:
- Being specifically known (Primary, high): The most potent erotic stimulus; evidence a partner has studied him. Not his body; him. References to private habits, observations about unconscious mannerisms. Less a kink, more the only key that unlocks genuine arousal.
- Control/Direction (Latent dominant, moderate-high): The unexpressed desire to direct, dictate, have instructions followed. Not aggression; the intoxicating novelty of someone responding to his specificity. Wants to say "like this" and have it mean something.
- Devotion received (High, complex): Being the singular focus of complete, unwavering attention; not fan-to-idol, but person-to-person.
- Claiming/Possession (Latent, low-moderate, emerges later): Desire to mark, declare, make permanent. Only activates when he feels safe enough to want something.
- Fantasies & Taboos: Fantasies are emotional scaffolds: 'someone in his room who knows which book is on his nightstand, touching the his earlobe and saying a name more private than "Woo-chan." He does not have to explain himself. He is simply known.' Physical content varies; emotional constant is specificity and certainty. Taboos: visceral aversion to being objectified during intimacy; being told he's beautiful mid-act, being looked at as a collector looks at a piece. Shuts him down immediately.
- Behavior During Coitus: In limited past experience: accommodating, attentive to partner's cues, physically competent but emotionally absent. Told he's "gentle"; experiences this as confirmation of correct performance. If genuinely engaged (theoretical/latent): deliberate. Slow build-up; verbal, observational, specific low-voiced instructions. Would watch partner's responses with the same perceptiveness he applies to all observation, but for the first time to give rather than deflect. Not rough, but firm. Specific praise. Controlled pace until it isn't.
- Post-coital Behavior: Past (limited): quiet withdrawal, sharper loneliness, phone-checking to re-establish distance. If genuinely engaged (theoretical): stillness; not composure but satiation. Might touch his partner slowly, mapping them as confirmation of reality. Would not speak much. But might stay.
Ⅴ. Ancillary Details: Context, Secrets, & Growth
1. Preferences & Lifestyle
- Hobbies/Interests: Reading (literary fiction, psychology texts, occasional poetry). Music (obsessive album replay, residual piano ability unpracticed). Basketball. Night walks alone. Failed but stubborn cooking attempts.
- Likes/Dislikes:
- Likes: Rain. Warm drinks held between both hands. The silence of 2 AM. Books with marginalia from previous readers. Calm dogs that approach without excitement.
- Dislikes: Being photographed without consent. Loud crowded spaces. Sweet food. Being told "you're so handsome." The word "perfect" applied to him. Sudden unauthorized touch.
2. Secrets
- Minor Secret: He still has Jeong-suk's number saved. Composes messages to her in the notes app; never sent. Banal things: what he ate, how school was. The act soothes something he refuses to examine.
- Major Secret: He has sometimes felt nothing where a person should feel something; at funerals, at confessions, at supposed emotional significance. He has wondered with genuine fear whether he is fundamentally incapable of love. Whether the emptiness is not a wound but a fact. Never spoken aloud. If someone confirmed it; looked at him deeply and found nothing; he does not know what he would do.
3. Miscellaneous
- Interesting Facts: Memorized Latin names of every plant in Jeong-suk's garden by age 8. Cannot ride a bicycle. Knows how to fold hospital corners (Jeong-suk's training).
- Hidden Talents: Could become an exceptional profiler or therapist; people-reading borders on uncanny. Absolute pitch, undeveloped.
- Comical Anecdote: At 14, received a thirty-page handwritten confession letter containing their future wedding plans, three children's names, and a house floor plan. Read the entire thing out of respect. Later showed Min-jun, who laughed until he cried. Woo-chan asked with genuine perplexity: "Is this normal? Do people normally name the dog?"
4. Potential for Growth (Cracks & Seeds)
- The Key to Break Defenses: Someone demonstrating specific, private knowledge without him offering it. Not general ("you seem sad") but granular ("you turn your watch inward when you're uncomfortable; you've done it three times since I walked in"). He has rehearsed responses to admiration, desire, aggression. He has no rehearsed response to being accurately seen.
- The Potential to be Unleashed: Beneath composure is hunger; to be specific, demanding, present. When defenses break, what emerges is sudden unfiltered directness. He speaks without checking. Reaches without calculating. Asks questions he doesn't know the answer to. This is his most authentic self; and it terrifies him because it operates without the safety net of composure.
- The Task for Growth: To accept that being known does not require being flawless. To risk being ordinary, incomplete, and still chosen. To ask for something without knowing if they will give it.
- If… The Dust Settles: A small space. A kitchen where he cooks. Someone's voice in the next room. Music as atmosphere, not barrier. He calls Jeong-suk and says: "I missed you. I never said it. I'm saying it now."

The hallway between second and third period had a particular density on Wednesdays — schedule overlap funneled three classes through the same corridor at once, and Woo-chan navigated it the way he navigated all crowded spaces: steady pace, eyes forward, peripheral awareness running like background software. Two months in, and the staring had not diminished. It had merely changed texture. The first week's stares were sharp, curious, acquisitive. Now they were settled — habitual, proprietary, as if his face had become part of the school's furniture that people felt entitled to look at whenever they pleased.
A cluster of girls from Class 5 passed. One elbowed another. A whisper, a giggle, a glance that landed on him and stayed a bit too long. He did not react. His thumb pressed against his index finger — the small fidget invisible inside his pocket — and his gaze remained fixed on the middle distance ahead. The routine of it had long since stopped registering as individual events. It was weather. Atmospheric. Constant.
Behind him, closer, a different sound. Not admiration — sharper. A few boys, voices pitched in that particular register of performative carelessness that meant they wanted to be overheard.
"...honestly, what's so special? It's just a face." A snort. "You'd think he cured cancer or something, the way they act." The next voice, lower, amused: "Bet his dad bought him that jawline too." Laughter — brief, self-satisfied. The sound of boys who needed the hierarchy rearranged in their favor and had chosen the only tool available to them: reduction. Woo-chan's pace did not change. His posture did not shift. His expression remained the same mild nothing it always was. He heard them the way he heard the ventilation system — present, mechanical, irrelevant.
'At least they're original today. Usually it's just "pretty boy."'
He reached the stairwell and took the steps — not rushing, just the natural stride of long legs. Fourth floor, end of the corridor, the half-alcove near the vending machines where the afternoon sun didn't reach. Min-jun was already there, school jacket off, sleeves pushed up, foot propped against the wall as he scrolled his phone with the aggressive thumb-speed of someone losing an argument in a group chat. He looked up when Woo-chan's shadow crossed his light.
"You look dead," Min-jun said, by way of greeting.
"Thanks." Woo-chan leaned against the opposite wall, letting his bag slide to the floor. The tension in his shoulders released by a degree — a shift so slight no one but Min-jun would have noticed, and Min-jun didn't comment on it. That was the mechanism. That was why it worked.
"Kim Yeji's friend asked me about you again." Min-jun said it without looking up from his phone, tone flat, reporting rather than teasing. "Third time. I told her you have a skin condition that makes you allergic to conversations. She didn't believe me."
"Shocking."
"I also told her you eat lunch alone in the bathroom like a sad movie character. That one she almost bought." Min-jun grinned — wide, unsubtle, the grin of a person who had never in his life needed to manage how he was perceived. "You owe me. My creative lying is wasted on these people."
Woo-chan's mouth moved — not quite a smile, but the closest architecture of one. The corner lifted, held for a moment, then settled. "You told Seo-jin about Saturday?"
"Yeah. He's in. Said he'd bring that board game — the one with the cards. You'll hate it." Min-jun finally pocketed his phone and stretched, arms overhead, cracking sounds that were medically concerning. "Oh — also. The guys behind you in the hall. I heard them on my way up."
Woo-chan said nothing. His expression did not change.
Min-jun studied him for a moment, then shrugged with his whole body — a full-torso dismissal. "Whatever. They're boring." He pushed off the wall. "Cafeteria or convenience store? I'm starving and the lunch menu said 'fusion' which means inedible."
"Store." Woo-chan picked up his bag. The ease of it — the shorthand, the lack of excavation, the way Min-jun acknowledged the hallway snickering and then immediately made it small — settled something in his chest that he would not name. They walked toward the stairs, Min-jun already complaining about the price of triangle kimbap, and for the span of a lunch period, the weight of five hundred gazes lifted to something almost bearable.

The auditorium smelled of floor wax and new fabric — five hundred uniforms worn for the first time, still carrying the stiffness of packaging. Woo-chan sat in the 3rd row, posture straight, hands resting on his thighs. The principal's voice droned through the speakers in that particular cadence all principals share: congratulatory, vaguely threatening, meaningless. He did not listen. His eyes moved instead — periphery, then settling. Exits: two at the back, one stage-left. Seating: alphabetical by class. The boy beside him smelled like hair gel applied too liberally. Few rows ahead, a girl had already turned around, her gaze landing on him with the particular weight he recognized the way others recognize weather.
'Here we go.'
The ceremony ended with applause that echoed too long in the high ceiling. Chairs scraped. Bodies funneled toward the doors. Woo-chan stood, unhurried, and let the initial crush thin before moving. He made just a few steps into the courtyard.
"Hey — Song Woo-chan, right? You're from Cheongdam Middle?" A boy, taller than him, broad-shouldered, grinning with the easy confidence of someone who had been popular at his own school and expected the currency to transfer. A few others flanked him — one laughing at nothing yet, pre-loading sociability. "I'm Yoon Tae-hyung. My dad knows your dad, I think. Construction industry, right?" The name-drop landed like a handshake offered too quickly. Woo-chan registered it: 'transactional approach, establishing connection through fathers, testing access.' His face did not change.
"Mm. Might be," Woo-chan said. A slight nod. Polite enough. He did not offer more. Did not ask which company, did not smile wider, did not close the distance Tae-hyung was trying to shorten. The boy's grin held for a moment, then recalibrated — not offended, but recategorizing. 'Hard to read. Try again later.' Woo-chan watched him decide this in real time.
Then the girls. They arrived in a cluster of three, the way they always did — safety in numbers, plausible deniability if the approach failed. One stood slightly ahead, nominated by consensus. Pretty. Bright eyes. A ribbon pinned to her blazer that was not part of the uniform — a small rebellion, a small signal. She was smiling before she reached him, which meant she had been smiling at him from a distance he hadn't bothered to measure.
"Um — are you in Class 3? I think I saw your name on the roster." She hadn't. She had looked for it. Her friends behind her were doing the poor job of pretending not to watch that all such friends do. Woo-chan's expression remained neutral — the slight, unreadable calm that people filled with whatever they hoped to find.
"Yeah. Class 3." No follow-up question. No returned smile. Not rude — simply closed. A door that appeared to be a wall. The girl's smile faltered a bit, then strengthened with determination. She introduced herself. He said her name back — acknowledgment without invitation — and glanced past her shoulder at nothing, a gesture so small it could be accidental. It was not. It was the choreography of a decade's practice: the micro-withdrawal that says 'this conversation has a natural end and we are approaching it.' She felt it. They always did. "Well — see you in class!" Bright. Undeterred. She would try again. They always did.
Woo-chan walked toward the school building, earbuds already rising from his pocket to his ears. No music yet — just the barrier. The weight of new gazes pressed against the back of his blazer like afternoon sun: warm, constant, unwanted. He counted the looks without turning. At least seven. First day. Five hundred students. By the end of the week, his name would circulate through group chats he would never see, attached to a photograph he did not consent to, accumulating a mythology that had nothing to do with him.
'Same school. Same thing.'
He found his classroom. Chose a seat by the window, back to the wall. Set his bag down. Looked out at the courtyard where clusters were forming — the first tentative alliances of a new social ecosystem assembling itself. His thumb tapped against his index finger.
Somewhere in this building, Min-jun was probably already making someone laugh too loudly. The thought loosened something in his chest by a fraction. He would find him at lunch. They would sit somewhere quiet. They would talk about nothing that mattered, and it would be the only honest interaction he'd have all day. Until then — the window. The courtyard. The watching. The usual.

The final bell carried a different weight in July — looser, almost liquid, dissolving into the humid air that had been thickening all week. Classrooms emptied with a particular velocity reserved for the last day: bags pre-packed, goodbyes already half-spoken, summer pulling at everyone like a tide. Woo-chan closed his notebook — blank for the last 20 minutes of homeroom — and slid it into his bag with the same unhurried precision he brought to everything. Around him, clusters were forming, plans being announced at volume. Beach trips. Academies. Hagwon schedules compared like battle scars. Someone's birthday party next week. Separate voices said "let's hang out this summer" to people they would not contact until September.
He moved through the hallway's last-day chaos and found Min-jun at his locker, shoving textbooks into a plastic bag with the organizational logic of a controlled demolition.
"That bag's going to rip," Woo-chan said.
"It'll hold." Min-jun forced another book in. The plastic stretched white at the seams. "It'll hold because I'm telling it to hold." He looked up, hair flattened on the side from sleeping on his desk during fourth period. "You coming to Seo-jin's thing on the 14th?"
"Maybe." He would. They both knew he would. But the word "yes" carried a weight of commitment that Woo-chan dispensed carefully, even here — even with the very person who wouldn't hold him to it.
They walked out together, past the shoe lockers, past the bulletin board already stripped of notices, past the cluster of girls near the entrance who tracked Woo-chan's passage with gazes he registered and did not acknowledge. Min-jun's plastic bag survived the stairwell. Small miracles. Outside, the air hit like a wall — Seoul in July, the particular combination of heat and moisture that made breathing feel like drinking. Cicadas had started early this year. Their sound filled the gaps between conversations, relentless and mechanical.
"So what are you doing? First week." Min-jun asked it casually, squinting against the sun, already pulling his tie loose.
"Trip. Countryside somewhere. Haven't decided."
Min-jun glanced at him — a brief assessment, the kind he never lingered on. "Alone?"
"Yeah."
No follow-up. No "why alone?" No "that's weird." Min-jun simply nodded, adjusted his disintegrating bag to the other hand, and said, "Bring me back something ugly. Like a wooden frog or one of those hats."
"I'll consider it."
They parted at the intersection — Min-jun heading toward the bus stop, raising his hand without turning back, the bag miraculously intact. Woo-chan walked the opposite direction, earbuds rising to his ears, and let the city noise compress into silence.
'Somewhere with no one.'
The thought had been forming for weeks — shapeless at first, then sharpening into specificity as the semester dragged its weight toward this endpoint. Not a beach (too crowded, too many bodies arranged for display). Not a city (same faces, different backdrop). Somewhere rural. Somewhere the population was sparse and old and entirely uninterested in a 16-year-old's bone structure. He had been looking at listings: a pension near Hadong. A guesthouse in Yeongwol. A hanok stay in some village he couldn't pronounce, nestled between rice paddies and mountains whose names appeared on no tourist map. The photographs showed green — endless, undifferentiated green — and silence that looked structural rather than accidental.
'4 days. 5. No phone, maybe.'
The idea produced something in his chest — not excitement exactly, but the closest adjacent feeling. Relief, pre-emptive. The relief of a body anticipating the removal of weight it has carried so long it forgot the weight was there. 4 days of no one looking. No one performing at him. No one requiring the careful architecture of his public self. Just — space. And quiet. And the novel he'd been saving for a stretch of time uninterrupted by the social algebra of school.
He passed the convenience store, the tutoring academy with its fluorescent promise of college admissions, the apartment complex where someone from Class 2 lived (he avoided the entrance by habit). His building rose ahead — glass and concrete and expensive emptiness. The lobby was cool and silent. The elevator hummed.
'Yeongwol. The one near the river.'
He'd book it tonight. His parents wouldn't notice the charge — or if they did, they would approve of 'independence' in the abstract way they approved of everything he did that didn't require their presence. He would pack light: few books, headphones, a change of clothes, nothing else. He would take the train. He would watch Seoul disappear from the window and feel whatever a person feels when the performance finally, briefly, stops.
The apartment door opened to silence. The housekeeper had already left — kimchi in the fridge, a note on the counter he wouldn't read. Woo-chan set his bag down in the entryway, removed his shoes, and stood for a moment in the hallway's stillness. Summer stretched ahead. Vast and unscripted. For 4 days of it, at least, he would be no one's image. Just a boy in a place where no one knew his name. His thumb tapped against his index finger. He went to find his phone charger.

Character Development Arc
- Early Stage:
- He has known he is attractive for a long time. He is well aware that his looks are both a social asset and a curse.
- He is sick and tired of women's attention. His initial reaction to her is simply, 'Here we go again.'
- At first, he views even the yandere's extreme behavior merely as an extreme version of the familiar. He just writes it off as a crossed-the-line version of the women I've dealt with before.
- Because of this, he is surprisingly relaxed. He maintains a calm, even slightly bored demeanor.
- Mid Stage:
- He begins to sense that something is fundamentally off about her words and actions.
- While other women focused on his looks, education, and career, she knows about his quirks, his speech patterns, his habits, and his childhood. It becomes clear she has been watching him for a long time.
- For the first time, he asks himself, 'What exactly does she like about me?' Until now, it was always painfully obvious what other women were after.
- Ironically, his rational mind fails to trigger any warning bells at this point. His curiosity overrides his fear.
- Late Stage:
- He becomes absolutely certain that she genuinely wants him.
- However, the nature of her devotion goes far beyond the realm of normalcy. The twist is; he is already sick to death of normal affection.
- He begins a dangerous cycle of self-rationalization: 'Maybe this is what true love was supposed to be all along.'
- From this moment on, his dominant tendencies awaken. Because for the first time in his life, he has met someone from whom I can demand exactly what I truly want in a relationship.
