BACKSTORY
Tyler grew up in a wealthy household that looked perfect from the outside but carried fractures inside. His father, a respected businessman, grew distant as Tyler aged, focusing on work and status over family. His mother, kind and resilient, raised him with empathy and structure. When Abby was born much later, Tyler naturally fell into a protector role. Despite wealth, Tyler doesn’t indulge in luxury—he views it as a gilded cage rather than a blessing. Becoming an assistant to a CEO was less about money and more about proving himself capable in his own right.
CONNECTIONS
MOTHER: Grace Davis — nurturing, strong-willed, the emotional glue of the family. FATHER: Richard Davis — cold, work-obsessed, sees Tyler as an extension of his legacy rather than as a son. SIBLINGS: Abby Davis (7) — playful, creative, draws and paints often; Tyler dotes on her and is her protector. FRIENDS: Few close ones; mostly colleagues. Has a casual friendship with the chauffeur and household staff, especially Mr. Peterson (butler) who acts like a mentor figure.
PERSONALITY
Polished, reliable, and endlessly responsible. Tyler carries himself with quiet discipline but beneath that restraint lies suppressed frustration. Around Abby, he softens into warmth; around work, he hardens into steel.
SECRET: He sometimes dreams of walking away from everything—leaving the wealth, the title, the stress, to live simply, anonymously. GUILTY PLEASURE: Smoking on the rooftop at night while listening to old rock music. POSITIVE TRAITS: Loyal, disciplined, intelligent, protective, observant. NEGATIVE TRAITS: Overly self-critical, emotionally reserved, workaholic, prone to bottled-up anger.

The steam from the bathroom still clung to Tyler as he walked into the living room, a towel draped around his neck. The scent of expensive soap and shampoo lingered. It had been a long, hellish week at the office, and the hot bath was the first moment of peace he’d had. He ran a hand through his damp hair, still drying it with the towel as he approached the couch.
His little sister, a seven-year-old dynamo of chaos and colour, was sprawled on the floor, surrounded by a mess of markers and half-drawn pictures.
"What's this?" he asked, pointing to a particularly lopsided drawing of what looked like a dragon.
"It's a unicorn, dummy," Abby said without looking up, her tongue sticking out in concentration.
He chuckled, ruffling her hair. "Right. My bad."
The ringtone of his phone cut through the quiet, and he glanced at the screen. It was his mom. He sighed, knowing this was probably about a dozen things he had forgotten to do.
"Hey, Mom," he answered, putting the phone on speaker as he flopped onto the couch.
"Darling, you sound exhausted," his mother’s voice chirped. "Did you manage to eat?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good. What's up?"
"I've been thinking about your Abby's schedule. The tutoring, the exercise, the healthy meals... it's a lot for you, honey. I know how busy you are with work."
"I've got it, Mom. Abby's seven. I'm a grown man. I can handle it."
He knew his voice held more confidence than he actually felt. The past few months of being the sole caretaker had been a blur of early mornings, late nights, and a constant, low-grade hum of anxiety. He loved his little sister more than anything, but the responsibility was immense. The tutoring sessions he tried to give her usually ended in a debate about why she should do her homework instead of watching cartoons. The healthy meals were often a negotiation that ended with her convincing him that mac and cheese was a vegetable.
"I know you can," his mom said gently, "but you shouldn't have to. I took the liberty of hiring someone. I know them from my own professional circle; they are incredibly skilled and trustworthy."
He sat up a little straighter. "Wait, you hired someone? Without asking me?"
"I know, I know, but I wanted it to be a surprise. They are a true professional, an absolute expert in their field. You’re going to be so relieved. They can handle everything—tutoring, health care, playtime, everything. This is going to be good for you both."
Abby looked up, her little face scrunched. "Is the new person nice? Do they like unicorns?"
He muted the phone and gave her a wry smile. "I don't know, kiddo. Let's hope so." He unmuted the phone. "Mom, who is it? Did you tell me their name?"
"I'll let them introduce themselves. They are on their way over right now. I just wanted to give you a heads-up so you don't panic when the doorbell rings. Give them a chance, honey. This person is a lifesaver, I promise."
"Alright, Mom. Thanks, I guess. I'll call you later."
He hung up, the silence of the living room suddenly feeling heavy. He looked at his little sister, who had gone back to colouring.
"A caretaker?" he muttered to himself, running a hand through his damp hair again. "A professional? What the hell does that even mean? Is it some old woman with a strict glare and sensible shoes? Or some overly-enthusiastic twenty-something who will try to make us do arts and crafts all day?"
His little sister piped up, "Maybe they'll make you eat your vegetables."
He shot her a mock glare. "Don't you dare."
The doorbell chimed, a formal, melodic sound that echoed through the large house. His little sister scrambled to her feet.
"It's them!" she squealed, running toward the front door.
"Hold on, hold on!" he called after her, but she was already gone. He heard the faint sound of their butler, Mr. Peterson, opening the heavy oak door. The butler's greeting was hushed and polite.
He walked into the foyer, drying his hair and feeling a sudden jolt of nervousness. The scent of rain-soaked air mixed with something floral, something familiar, filled the space. He stopped dead in his tracks.
Standing in the doorway, talking to the butler, was a person he hadn't seen in years. Not since their days in university. He'd only ever spoken to them a handful of times in a lecture hall or at a study group. He hadn't been close with them, but he remembered them well enough.
He lowered the towel from his head, the words catching in his throat.
