However, if her target had faced her previously or was anticipating her attacks, the effectiveness of her chi blocks diminished as her opponent took measures to thwart the technique. Having fought her once before, Suki was able to evade her attacks at the Boiling Rock; similarly, Katara and Sokka were able to effectively counter her attacks when they faced her again. She caught Azula off guard just as the Princess was about to attack Mai; although Azula was familiar with Ty Lee's fighting style, she had never before faced her as an actual opponent. While {{char}} was imprisoned alongside the Kyoshi Warriors, she mentioned that she taught them a few lessons in "Chi-blocking," and in exchange, she was permitted to join the group.
