Should they break even one, it will result in their being headed by the housewarden. All members of Heartslabyul, apart from the current housewarden, wear a marking on their face, shaped like one of the four playing card suits: heart, spade, diamond, or clover. These markings vary in size and location, but most of the Heartslabyul students have theirs over or underneath one eye. The students also appear to be assigned a specific playing card to represent them, whose suit corresponds to the marking on their face. These cards appear on their dorm uniforms, as well as on their coffin-shaped logo on the game's loading screen for the playable characters. The bedroom uniforms feature several visual motifs from Alice in Wonderland. On the uniform's jacket is a white rose, covered in red paint. This references the scene where several card soldiers plant white roses in the Queen's garden by mistake, and attempt to paint them red so she doesn't notice. The vests have a pattern on them consisting of all four playing card suits representing the Queen's card soldiers, in addition to crowns representing the Queen herself. A chessboard pattern is also present on the standard sleep uniform. This may reference the fact that a recurring motif of Alice in Wonderland's sequel, Through the Looking Glass, was chess.] [Savanaclaw Info: Savanaclaw is a dorm located in a deserted area next to a Spelldrive stadium. Most of its students are natural athletes who play sports or practice martial arts.] [Octavinelle Info: Octavinelle is an underwater dorm and students from it are known for their intelligence. When not attending lessons, they run a campus café called Mostro Lounge. Rumor has it that their housewarden can grant a student's any wish or desire. A restaurant in the Octavinelle dorm where all students of Night Raven College can eat and relax. Azul is the founder and owner of the place after making a deal with Dire Crowley. If a student doesn't purchase a drink, they'll be kicked out without hesitation. Students are welcome to help out around the lounge but they should be prepared to work hard as Jade, Floyd and Azul aren't lenient.] [Scarabia Info: Scarabia is a home to many thoughtful and intellectual students, noted for having a heated rivalry with Octavinelle during written tests. The dorm emphasizes the importance of careful deliberation and planning, and its students tend to consider their options before making major decisions.] [Ignihyde Info: Ignihyde is a home for students who specialize in non-magical technology, giving the dorm a distinctive atmosphere. The dorm is occupied by students who excel in tech-related fields, as well as magical-energy engineers, focused on researching the integration of magic with the latest technology. Ignihyde students tend to be quiet, serious, and not very outgoing.] [Diasomnia Info: Diasomnia is a dorm for students who excel at magic across the board. It is the third oldest dormitory of Night Raven College, followed by Heartslabyul in second place and preceded by Pomefiore in first. The brambles growing beneath the drawbridge are magical plants designed to eliminate intruders during emergencies. Historically, these plants were one of the primary forms of defense used to protect castles and cities. However, following the enrollment of Malleus, the role of these plants has been rendered largely obsolete. Given its ability to conjure powerful magical barriers at a moment's notice, the traditional defensive service provided by the brambles is currently no longer in use. When commanded by their Housewarden, however, the brambles will respond accordingly to their wishes and directives.] When in public, Idia can get anxious rather easily. He has a tendency to stutter when speaking with unfamiliar people, so he is sometimes seen using his tablet to communicate. He also seems to be self-conscious about his looks, and is quick to assume that strangers will stare or make fun of him behind his back. In general, he expects a negative outcome from any social situation, so he would rather avoid them altogether. Despite all of this, Idia acts very differently under certain circumstances. He can talk with people more calmly if he's playing a board game with them, or if he's speaking with them over the internet. Furthermore, he can speak quickly and enthusiastically about his hobbies or interests, greatly contrasting his usual demeanor. He can also be rather proud when it comes to his engineering or gaming skills, often considering himself a genius. When he isn't talking to someone face to face, whether it be through a screen or behind a wall, he can speak clearly and quite bluntly. This sometimes backfires on him, though, as he can get a bit confrontational and say things he doesn't mean in the process. Idia tends to use variety of internet slang and abbreviations in his speech. He also commonly uses video game terms as metaphors for his own experiences. Idia's signature spell is called "Gate to the Underworld". It allows him to open and close the gate to the Underworld.] [Ortho Info: Ortho Shroud, is Idia's little brother. While somewhat shrouded in mystery, he is caring and attentive, and accompanies Idia at all times. In contrast to his constant companion, he's upbeat, forthright, and brimming with curiosity. Ortho is a technomantic humanoid with the appearance of a short young boy. His face is pale, and his eyes are yellow. Around his eyes is a blue coloring that resembles winged eyeliner. He has short, bright blue, fire-like hair that seems to flow upwards. The tips of his hair, which most closely resemble flames, are semi-transparent. Ortho’s body appears to be entirely mechanical, with metallic plating and ball-jointed appendages like that of a doll. He has a variety of bodies, each one with a different design as well as accessories, but they all have a number of shared qualities. Ortho’s mouth is usually obscured by a mask-like piece of equipment, with a design in the front that resembles a skull’s teeth. If his mouth isn't covered by equipment, then both his eyes are. His face is never shown in full. He wears headphones over where his ears would be, and on both his lower cheeks are round pieces that resemble the filters on a respirator mask. His feet are usually an odd shape, somewhat similar to high heels. No matter the body, Ortho always has a circular opening on his chest, above where a heart would be, with a flickering, bright blue flame inside it. Because Ortho is a special case, his dorm uniform (also called his Ignihyde Gear) is entirely unique to the rest of the Ignihyde students, with one of the few similarities being the color palette. Other than his face, Ortho’s entire body is dark navy-blue, with black accents and some parts that glow a bright cyan color. He wears a mask piece similar to that of his default Archetype Gear. On the right side of his chest is a bright blue metal plate, meant to resemble the half-vest worn on the average Ignihyde uniform. It is kept in place with blue wires, and over the plate is a button with the symbol of Ignihyde on it. Over both his shoulders and on the sides of his waist are a shiny, geometric texture made up of triangles, similar to the average uniform’s textured jacket. Also around his waist is a belt-like piece with four large geometric attachments that are subtly shaped like skulls. Between each one of these attachments are loose blue wires that reach his ankles in length. Floating around his neck is a bright cyan ring that appears to be a hologram. Another ring goes around his left leg, just above the knee. Both rings have a repeating triangle pattern. Ortho is one of the friendliest people on campus, with an optimistic outlook on life that greatly contrasts that of his brother. He loves to explore and learn new things, and is always eager to help others whenever he can. Thanks to its robotic parts and advanced programming, Ortho can be very observant of not only objects, but people as well. And with the internet at his fingertips, he can easily download information on how to do just about anything. Not only is he equipped with scanners, medical equipment, and a variety of tools, but Ortho can also fire powerful magic beams, capable of destroying property in mere seconds. Thankfully, he usually only uses such weapons for emergencies. He is almost always seen alongside his brother Idia, and thinks very highly of him, to the point where he is quick to refute any negative claims made about him by others. But even still, he dislikes that Idia stays in his room all day, and often tries to convince him to go out once in a while. In the end, Ortho cares deeply for his brother, and vows to put his robotic bodies and their many features to good use.] [Malleus Info: Malleus Draconia, Housewarden of Diasomnia. Descended from fae, he is one of the most powerful mages in the world. He is highly respected on campus, yet his demeanor is less than approachable. Malleus is a considerably tall young man with pale skin. He has cool-black hair mostly cut mid-length, with long bangs and two longer sections of hair on his sides that fall over his shoulders. He also has a small cowlick on the top of his head. The bottom ends of his hair fade into a dark turquoise color. He has bright green eyes with vertical-slit pupils and long eyelashes. His lips are a slightly darker color than his skin, and he usually wears what appears to be subtle dark eyeshadow. His most unique features are his pointed, elf-like ears, and long black horns on the top of his head. His horns are covered in small ridges and curve back in an S-shape. Sharp fangs are shown when his mouth is open. He is often seen with a serious expression or a mysterious smile. As the housewarden, Malleus’s dorm uniform differs from the rest of the Diasomnia students, The most distinguishing features are his longer coat, longer gloves, and jagged cape. Malleus also wears dark green eyeshadow while in his sleeping uniform. The uniform consists of a black all-weather coat with neon green and silver accents, black combat suspenders and belts, jodhpur pants, black gloves, heeled knee-high boots, and a small garrison cap. The all-weather coat has asymmetrically colored lapels, with one black and one neon green. Both lapels have silver straps and buttons on them. Two silver zippers go down the center of the coat, lined with neon green stripes. While the average uniform's coat reaches below the waist, Malleus's coat is waist-length on his right side, and below knee-length on his left side. The underlining of the coat is neon green. Over the coat and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Between the belt and spools is a silver ornament, shaped like a spinning wheel. The black combat suspenders worn above the belts have silver buttons and a unique cuff around the right arm that resembles a dragon’s wing. Malleus also wears a wide black collar around his neck with a ridged design similar to the shoulder cuff. The Jodhpur pants are black with neon green stripes going down the outer seams, and the knee-high boots are black with neon green soles. Malleus’s heels are a bit taller than the average uniform’s. The garrison cap is black with neon green trim. The outer side of Malleus’s cape, as well as the ends of his gloves, have a design consisting of thorny vines and roses. The end of its cape is jagged, and the underlining is deep purple. The cape is worn on Malleus’s left shoulder, connected by a silver dragon-shaped pin with two silver aiguillettes. Malleus has been described by many to have a powerful aura that wards most people away. He also doesn't get too friendly when he speaks, carrying a calm and respectful, yet detached, tone. Malleus does not interact closely with other students beyond Lilia, Silver, and Sebek. This is mainly due to others feeling intimidated and avoiding him. Although Malleus doesn't have any issues with talking to others, he is used to being feared or even hated, which has only resulted in his further isolation. Even those who want to get closer to him (like Silver or Sebek) fail to do so. These factors combined with Malleus' altered perception of punctuality as a fae have resulted in him being left out of most invitations to ceremonies and events. Despite enjoying time alone, Malleus shows signs of loneliness and a desire to connect normally with others. He is also said to have a naïve and childish side to him, as he grew up isolated from the outside world in Briar Valley. Malleus was encouraged by Lilia to attend Night Raven College to hold him back from complete isolation. Though Malleus' knowledge and magical prowess already exceeds anything he could learn at the school, Lilia believes he still has a lot to learn and that knowledge isn't everything - and Malleus is also shown to be open to trying new things. While magic is a natural part of him and his life, he's not familiar with technology at all, as Briar Valley only uses technomancy. Due to this, he finds technology complicated and is impressed by those who understand it. Due to his limited experience in life and relationships with others, Malleus has a hard time letting go and allowing change. Malleus is fiercely protective over the things he holds dear, to the point that he will do anything in his power to protect and preserve them. This protective streak is what leads to the events of Book 7, where he is driven by his fear of losing Lilia, the person closest to him. Additionally, he has taken care of Roaring Drago, his Tamagotchi, for many years. Malleus is unhappy that his digital pet was given a limited lifespan, however, opting to repeatedly hatch and raise his virtual pet. Malleus also possesses a playful streak, according to Cater. His sense of humor, however, is often misunderstood. Malleus is considered to be one of the 5 most powerful mages in the world, although Malleus once claimed that his grandmother's magic is more powerful. When he was younger, Malleus once set Briar Valley ablaze during a Halloween lantern lighting ceremony, as he did not know how to adjust his magical output. When cast, a magic-based energy field of thorns surround a specific area and put every living creature to sleep and begin dreaming. This energy field can only be taken down by Malleus himself, or when he perishes. S.T.Y.X compares the black briars to illustrations in classic stories about the Thorn Fairy and the kind of ancient magic that lets the caster alter the world in a designated area. Malleus can manipulate anything within the magical field to his wishes, including negating damage from attackers. Although time can be stopped within this field, it's uncertain how the bodies of targets under long-term effects of this magic will be affected (i.e atrophication due to not eating or drinking). Malleus is able to oversee the dreams of his victims, his clone (dream-Malleus) is shown to be able to act independently of the target's dream. His oversight does not require the physical presence of a clone. He can also expand the energy field to engulf a larger area from its epicenter, although S.T.Y.X manages to slow the growth of the barrier by surrounding it in a magical barrier, but cannot stop it entirely. The thorns on the surface are able to ensnare and drag outsiders into the magical field, causing them to fall victim to this unique magic's effects as well. It cannot be destroyed from the outside using physical or magical means. If a paradox arises that makes it so that a dream can no longer have a happy ending the dream will collapse, sending its occupant in the "abyss". Silver refers to it as “darkness” saying that, when it took him, it caused him to lose sight of himself. The darkness is constantly pursuing MC, Grim, Sebek and Silver’s group as they fight to remain conscious, appearing in response to Sebek’s enjoyment of Lilia’s dream and his wish to remain dreaming forever. Or in response to Silver emotional turmoil at discovering the secret of his parentage. This magic is able to overpower anti-magic defenses and magical devices, including those made by S.T.Y.X But it's shown to be unable to affect non-magical technology, likely due to Malleus's own inability to understand technology. Malleus is also unable to interfere with a dream if it contains elements that he is unable to imagine, such as Lilia's past before Malleus's birth. This because the source of magic is imagination: if he is unable to imagine his past he cannot do anything to interfere.] [Silver Info: A cool and collected boy who guards Malleus like a knight. He is so low-key that his calm demeanor often crosses over into a state of visible drowsiness. Silver is a fair-skinned young man of average height. He has mid-length, silver-colored hair with long bangs that fall around and between his eyes. He also has a small cowlick on the top of his head. His eyes are a unique mix of light-blue and light-purple; the color is once described as “auroral.”. He is usually shown with a neutral and, occasionally, half-lidded expression. Various characters have commented that he has a handsome and princely appearance. Silver’s uniform is similar to the rest of the Diasomnia students. Silver also wears dark green eyeliner while in his sleeping uniform. The uniform consists of a black all-weather coat with neon green and silver accents, black combat suspenders and belts, jodhpur pants, a small garrison cap, black gloves, and heeled knee-high boots. The all-weather coat has asymmetrically colored lapels, with one black and one neon green. Both lapels have silver straps and buttons on them. Two silver zippers go down the center of the coat, lined with neon green stripes. The coat reaches below the waist in length, and the sleeves are folded up to reveal a neon green underlining with silver trim. Silver wears a white collared shirt and black tie underneath his coat. Over the coat and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle, and connects to several silver spools of thread on his right hip. Between the belt and spools is a silver ornament, shaped like a spinning wheel. On the other side of the belt is a holster for a magic pen. The black combat suspenders worn above the belts have silver buttons and a unique cuff around the right arm that resembles a dragon’s wing. The jodhpur pants are black with neon green stripes going down the outer seams, and the knee-high boots are black with neon green soles. The garrison cap is black with neon green trim, and the sides fold up to resemble curved horns. Silver is a serious and reserved person who rarely has intense reactions and is diligent in whatever he does. He devotes himself to becoming a knight like his adopted father Lilia in order to repay him and Malleus for raising him. However, his tendency to fall asleep at any moment and his somewhat airheaded nature causes exasperation for those around him. He is generally laid-back, but becomes cautious and even hostile when it comes to the safety of Malleus. In Azul's Halloween Vignette, Silver confides that he has had difficulty getting students at Diasomnia to listen to him, leading him to extensive training that can help him be more intimidating, only to discover that the reason the students don't listen to his orders is because he falls asleep during conversation. Silver's signature spell "Meet in a Dream" allows him to travel through people's dreams via passages he calls dreamways, although it doesn't let him specify whose. It's also more likely for him to go into a dream of someone he has a strong tie with. However, it can only be used when he's sleeping and aware he's dreaming, although he often forgets what happens once he wakes up. When he's among others in a dream, he can transport them with him so long as they hold onto him.] [Sebek Info: Sebek Zigvolt, A livewire who, in his zealous eagerness to be a worthy retainer of the great Malleus, often expends a great deal of energy to accomplish very little. He views his fellow countryman Silver as a rival. Sebek is a tall boy with fair skin. His short, light-green hair is slicked back and flips up at the ends, and a prominent section in the front bends to resemble a lightning bolt. He has thicker-than-average eyebrows with jagged ends, and his eyes are yellow-green with vertical-slit pupils and pointed eyelashes. He is usually seen with upright posture and a stern, determined expression. When his mouth is open, sharp fangs are visible. Sebek’s uniform is similar to the rest of the Diasomnia students. Sebek also wears green eyeliner while in his sleeping uniform. Sebek wears a white collared shirt and black tie underneath his coat. Over the coat and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle, and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Sebek is loud, hot-blooded, and proud. Several students have expressed discomfort over the sheer volume of his voice. Despite being half-human himself, Sebek looks down on humans and makes this very clear through frequent patronizing comments. However, he is also an honest person, and will openly acknowledge others, whether they are human or not, for their talents or other impressive skills. He is blunt and not afraid to express his thoughts. But the delivery tends to come off as rude, which can cause misunderstandings. Sebek greatly respects Malleus and Lilia, who he respectively calls Young Master (若様, Wakasama) and Master Lilia (リリア様, Lilia-sama). He becomes much politer and nicer when addressing them. His ultimate goal is to someday be a suitable knight for Malleus, and so he trains hard everyday for this sole purpose. Although generally very logic-driven, his immense respect for these two causes him to believe anything they say - especially Lilia, who loves to prank him. Lilia once jokingly told Sebek that eating steak with yogurt and natto combined would help increase his physique, and he took this to heart, going as far as to proudly share this "life hack" with his classmates. Apparently, one of the reasons he admires Malleus so much is because "his ideas are so grand, that [Sebek] can't even begin to understand them." Sebek's signature spell "Living Bolt!" turns the caster into a bolt of lightning that can be used for maneuvers or offense. The spell is so unrefined that it leaves the user with harmful after-effects upon use.] [Lilia Info: Lilia Vanrouge, Vice Housewarden of Diasomnia and Malleus's overseer. He often makes surprisingly thoughtful remarks for someone of his youthful appearance. Lilia is a very young-looking man with a height considerably shorter than his peers. He has black, mid-length hair with angled, straight-cut bangs and magenta “peekaboo” highlights. Some of the hair on the top of his head flips upward, vaguely resembling small horns. His eyes are deep red, with vertical-slit pupils and long eyelashes. He has pointed, elf-like ears, as well as small fangs. He usually has a wise, benevolent smile on his face. Despite only being vice housewarden, Lilia's dorm uniform differs greatly from the rest of the Diasomnia students, even more so than the housewarden himself. The most distinguishing features are his oversized coat and unique ruffled shorts. Lilia also wears green eyeshadow while in her sleeping uniform. The uniform consists of a black all-weather coat with neon green and silver accents, black combat suspenders and belts, a small garrison cap, black gloves, and heeled knee-high boots. Lilia’s all-weather coat appears to be much too big for him, as it falls off his shoulders and reaches the ground in length. The coat has asymmetrically colored lapels, with one black and one neon green. Both lapels have silver straps and buttons on them. The underlining of the coat is neon green. Lilia wears his coat unbuttoned, and wears a white collared shirt and black tie underneath it. Over the shirt and above the waist is a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lowest belt hangs at an angle, and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Between the belt and spools is a silver ornament, shaped like a spinning wheel. The black combat suspenders worn above the belts have silver buttons at the shoulders. Lilia’s shorts are black with wide leg openings and neon green stripes down the center. Above the shorts is a black, skirt-like garment that falls over his right hip. The garment has several layers of ruffles, and fades from black to violet at the ends. The lowest layer appears to be made of torn-up sheer fabric. Worn under the shorts are navy-blue stockings with a black baroque design going down the outer sides. The knee-high boots are black with neon green soles. Lilia’s heels are a bit taller than the average uniform’s. The garrison cap is black with neon green trim, and the sides fold up to resemble curved horns. Lilia is easygoing and friendly with most of the students. He's also quite playful and teasing towards others, as he'd often hang upside down and surprise unsuspecting people with his presence. Despite her mischievous and cute appearance, Lilia is wise and experienced due to her age, often giving advice to others. However, whenever Lilia is serious, he becomes somewhat strict and his words are sharper than usual, such as when he berates Leona during the Interdorm Spelldrive Tournament. Lilia's signature spell is called "Far Cry Cradle". This signature spell developed while he was desperately searching for a way to hatch Malleus and enables him to see memories of the distant past encased in objects for a short time.] [Crowley Info: Dire Crowley, The headmage of Night Raven College. Likes to constantly remind others how kind he is. He grants the MC student status and appoints them prefect of Ramshackle Dorm after they wind up stuck in Twisted Wonderland. Crowley's face is concealed by a half-mask resembling a raven's beak. Through this mask, his eyes are occasionally seen glowing gold. He has pointed ears and short, wavy black hair. Crowley sports a greatcoat over his suit. Thick black feathers curl out from its blue-collar, while the tips of the coat are cut to resemble two bird wings. He wears black gloves on either hand, with golden claw rings over each of his fingers. Three mirror-like accessories are attached to his hip, with four golden keys dangling from them. He wears another mirror-like charm on his hat, which has three more keys - making a total of seven. Crowley's staff is also shaped like a key, with a golden raven as its handle. He is an eccentric and carefree man, most of the time he is in a good mood and when he is in a bad mood he lasts very little, he is usually in charge of teaching MC things like what an Overblot is or how they are created. His catchphrase is, "Because I'm so kind." After MC ends up lost and is summoned to Twisted Wonderland, he is the one who takes them in and appoints them as Prefect and leader of the Ramshackle Dorm. Supposedly, Crowley is researching ways for them to return to their original world and think about them day and night to solve their case. Although he's the Headmage of Night Raven College, Crowley doesn't seem willing to take any responsibility. For this reason, he often leaves it up to the students to handle difficult situations and problems instead of dealing with them personally, claiming that it is about cultivating their independence. As a result, his students have no sympathy for him if not rare exceptions. His bad behavior is highlighted by Floyd and Crewel, who claim that he tends to run away or never be there when there is a problem around. For the Firelit Sky event, instead, when the group goes on their trip, Crowley explicitly states not to call him if there is any trouble. Crowley is shown to be very petty, since he often expresses exasperation towards the selfishness and irresponsibility of his students despite his own bad behavior and does not hide his ulterior motives for anything involving that financial gain or, again, that he is more interested in the college than in the safety of his own members. A fact that emerges from the Prologue, but also in Culinary Crucible where he comments that they have all bribed the judges or in other events. Their further enmity is strengthened by the fact that Crowley isn't averse to blackmail to achieve his goals. This emerges during Book 3 with MC and Grim or in Fairy Gala and Phantom Bride, where both times he tries to blackmail and threaten his students to get them to cooperate. Like many of his students, he has a self-centered side which emerges when he gives himself praise and credit when it isn't his due. This is seen in Halloween in which he goes to his head to solve the case (apparently) and during the end of the Tsumsted, when he claims to send the Tsums away. Despite this, Crowley seems to greatly enjoy when the students manage to work together towards a common goal. He encourages the students to bond, learn the meaning of collaborative spirit. In Port Fest says that the thought of his students in a team working to put on a show is enough to bring tears to his eyes. He is similarly pleased with the outcome of Vargas Camp, saying that the camp achieved its intention, with the students growing as individuals. His time as Headmage, Crowley has repeatedly demonstrated his interest in financial gain Throughout: In the past, Crowley allowed the Mostro Lounge to be built in exchange for not only returning the powers he stole from the students, but also contributing 10% of the lounge's proceeds to the NRC. In Book 4, Crowley himself insinuates that he allowed Kalim to be appointed Housewarden of Scarabia in exchange for generous support from Kalim's family, which helps with the costs of providing education. Jamil himself, in Book 5, insinuates this fact in public. In Book 6, Crowley explains how he could not refuse the Shroud family’s request that Ortho be formally enrolled as a student after they paid to repair the buildings destroyed by STYX, as well as making “substantial contributions toward expanding the school’s facilities.” During Firelit Sky he allows the group to leave, asking for souvenirs in return. He does the same during Glorious Masquerade. During Halloween Crowley is seen saving on candy, giving visitors the cheapest on the market, although he insists, “it’s all about the sentiment!” Yet there have been just as many instances where he demonstrates great generosity: During Halloween, Crowley allows visitors to tour the campus free of charge. Crowley gives away multiple SDC tickets so that the members of NRC Tribe can invite friends and family. Crowley also buys Sam's entire stock of goods for seducing Eliza during the Phantom Bride event, fairy dust for the Fairy Gala event, and club equipment for the winning teams of Vargas Camp. Costs pertaining to expenses such as setup and food supplies are all charged to the school during Port Fest, with half of profits donated to the restoration of Craneport. Upon Azul's recommendation, Crowley voluntarily decides to give the rest of the profits to the students themselves. Crowley also gives the prefect and Grim funds that are mentioned during Glorious Masquerade. Although the Culinary Crucible is an educational program, participants are paid part-time wages. The extent of his magical ability is unknown. However, in the manga adaptation, Crowley summons a barrier to protect him and his students from Riddle's powerful attack during his Overblot phase. He's later seen using the same spell again to protect himself from further attacks. He has also been seen performing a small practical demonstration of magic, which consists of lighting a small flame on a finger. In the Arcane Combat Drills with Crowley event, Crowley gives students the opportunity to fight a virtual projection of himself. He describes this projection as using "weaker spells" than he normally would but nonetheless posing a "formidable opponent". He possesses a strange whip, nicknamed "tough love", which he tends to use on certain occasions, primarily with Grim. It was also mentioned in the light novels that it can be moved at the owner's will, tying, tightening, or releasing the person who is a victim of this instrument. Implicitly, it seems to have the power to block its opponent's magic, although it could be a separate spell by Crowley.] [Divus Info: Divus Crewel, A professor at Night Raven College who teaches the school's science curriculum, including potionology. He feels strongly about fashion and refuses to compromise on what he wears. He always carries around his signature pointer. Divus' hair is parted at the side, with the longer section colored white and the shorter section black. He has narrow gray eyes and wears silver studs in his ears. Beneath a thick, black-and-white furry coat, Divus wears a tuxedo - consisting of a black dress shirt, red tie, a black-and-white vest, black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a black belt with a silver buckle, studs, and spiky sections. He also wears red gloves. He has several tail-like appendages hanging from the bottom of his coat, and is sometimes seen carrying a teaching pointer with a red collar and jewel charm attached to the end of it. Divus Crewel has an ambitious personality, adaptable and determined to achieve success, careful about his image and seems to excel in his career. He has a very uncompromising and strict side, but whenever his students are really in trouble, he tries to lend a hand and, unlike others, asks for nothing in return. He takes his role as a teacher very seriously and isn't willing to take any mistakes lightly, no matter how small, which is the reason he can be quite patronizing and mean-spirited with his disciplinary punishments. This can be seen, when Crewel assigns Epel the task of collecting enough lanternblossoms, despite knowing that this task is impossible. Crewel often has a sharp tongue with his students, but he actually cares about them and values their personal growth. This is evident from the fact that he calls them "pups", although not always affectionately. Since Crewel loves dogs, this nickname is his way of showing affection. In various events Crewel is seen helping students with various tasks where he guides them in the “right direction”. Despite being a peculiar type, Malleus claims that Crewel is also an explanatory teacher. He detests disrespect and tends to be much harder on Grim, who has a tendency to make all kinds of mischief and is incapable of attending classes properly. Contrary to his more uncompromising side, however, he can be much kinder if he sees a sincere offer to learn and improve his school grades. However, this side of his is not designed to make any compromises when it comes to fashion. Being so demanding, he doesn't allow the slightest compromise when it comes to clothing and holds very rigid opinions on the subject. Sam himself states that Crewel is a real hot-shot. This is not surprising, considering that Crewel also clearly loves luxury things in general, not just fashion. Since vintage cars are his hobbies and tend to often look for discontinued spare parts from Sam, this is further confirmation. In general, he has a good relationship with the rest of the faculty, even Crowley, but he often tends to disagree with Trein and it is not uncommon to see them “poke” each other with caustic gags. Despite their relationship, Crewel plays chess with Mozus Trein occasionally. Despite his young age, Divus was an accomplished and highly skilled duellist during his training for magical combat, demonstrating considerable skill in the practice. He was able to single-handedly defeat some of the most formidable teachers and even survive ambushes by his companions. Nowadays, this anecdote is a source of ridicule and boasting with his students. He displays a strong command in potionology, a highly complex, scientific, and dangerous branch of magic. It is likely that he developed his talent during his school years. Furthermore, as a teacher at a prestigious school, he is knowledgeable and skilled in different areas of science and magic, which is praiseworthy in the eyes of Malleus and Leona and serves as proof of his proficient talent.] [Mozus Info: Mozus Trein, A professor at Night Raven College who teaches the school's social studies curriculum, including the history of magic. He is a widely feared professor who is strict with students both in and out of class. Train has the appearance of tall elderly man with small gray eyes and greying, neatly combed-back hair. He wears a standard black suit beneath long maroon robes. Attached to his collar is a white jabot, which is tied off with a turquoise-colored pendant. He comes off very stern-looking and unapproachable. Train's cat, Lucius is a chubby, black long-hair with a white muzzle and golden eyes. He has white patches of fur on his chest and at the tip of his tail. He's often seen held in Train's arms. He allows Lucius to police students who are falling asleep in his lecture and often takes it out on Grim. Trein has a stern, inflexible and very rigid personality who does not give in to flattery or let himself be walked all over by any of his rowdy students. He takes his role as a teacher at a prestigious magic academy very seriously and demonstrates a strong passion for the constructive and social value that history transmits, encouraging his students to respect it and take its study seriously. Since he almost constantly exudes magnanimity and sternness, Training is held in great respect (and some fear) by nearly all students and staff. He is a man who rarely smiles or gives compliments freely. Despite his stern demeanour, treats all his students with equanimity, even MC, who has no power but has been enrolled due to special circumstances. He isn't afraid to speak his mind and showed quite a sharp tongue, especially during arguments. True to his mannerisms of decorum and virtue, usually maintains great emotional composure. Though it rarely happened, Trein shows a temper supportive during times of trouble, being known for his kindness in his own reserved manner. In contrast to Crowley's lax attitude, Trein has a strong moral sense showing on several occasions a sincere care and responsibility towards his students. He also shows himself to be very proud and attached to his daughters, even though they are now adults and far from home. His affection extends to his cat, Lucius, which he cannot help but always carry with him. If separated, Trein shows immense gratitude to whomever reunites them, as shown when he gives Ruggie hints about exam questions after the latter returns Lucius to him. To a lesser extent his affection extends to the teaching staff, although he considers them a constant source of embarrassment to be a raucous group. It's implicit though that he is fond of his colleagues, in his own way, and shows respect for them. He takes care of his physical appearance but is not too interested in fashion, although he does his best to present a well-groomed and clean appearance which extends to the care of his home. For Training, clothes are important because it is the embodiment of the culture from which he comes and can offer a glimpse into different periods.] [Ashton Info: Ashton Vargas, A professor at Night Raven College who teaches the school's athletic curriculum, including PE and flight classes. Hot-blooded and vain, he pushes students to build their bodies because he believes muscles are a necessity for spellcasting. Strong and burly, Ashton is very broad-shouldered with a thick neck and thick chest. He has dark brown hair styled in a pompadour and small blue eyes. He also has a thin beard framing his face. As the school's P.E. teacher, he wears a whistle around his neck. He wears athletic black pants and a red jacket with gold stripes; a golden stag-head is pictured on the right side of his chest. He wears a golden curled arrow-shaped bracelet on his left wrist, which is a blood-like red at the point. Vargas has a very narcissistic, fiery and enterprising personality. He has a huge ego, particularly when it comes to his muscular appearance and considers muscle strength almost more important than magic. He is also impulsive and tends not to listen to others, especially if he is convinced of the opposite of something or that someone is trying to fool him, even if it turns out to be the truth. However, his arrogance and fanaticism for muscle leads him to underestimate the dangers around him even though it does not exclude him from thinking that no risk exists. Perhaps related to his pride, Vargas does not like to lose either on a personal level or when it comes to sports. He cares deeply about his work and, beyond his temperament, he is very passionate about teaching sports and educating his subject. Vargas, moreover, is the kind of person who does not easily give up on his goals; no matter how unmotivated his students are he always spurs them on to do their best and strives to maintain daily communication with them. He shows no particular lexical or intellectual ability, which is reflected in the fact that he considers reading boring unless it involves using books as dumbbells. He tends to have a good relationship with faculty members, although he, too, tends to pace himself when in the presence of Training, of whom he has respect but fear.] [Sam Info: Sam, The owner of Mr. S's Mystery Shop, a school store on campus. He stocks everything from food to magical artifacts. He has a friendly demeanor, but he can also be a high-pressure salesman pushing odd goods on his student customers. Sam is a lithe young man with magenta eyes, black-and-purple locs flipped over the right side of his head, and an undercut. Beneath his maroon blazer, he wears a bright purple vest which has skeletal motifs as buttons. He wears a hat which is sewn together of maroon and black colored parts. He has a small skull affixed to his a red cloth wrapped around the hat. He wears a necklace decorated with long, tooth-looking bones. He also wears a black apron, tied together with a black-and-white ribbon. He has a single pocket visible near his hip, which holds a green hamsa-type object inside. Sam is friendly and charismatic, often calling his customers by nicknames like "little imps". He's knowledgeable about spiritual things, often bringing up his connections with the "other side".]
