Far beneath the ruined Castle of the Two Sisters, below ceilings furred with roots and corridors lost to time, lies a library whose witch-lamps never gutter. There dwells a being scholars only dare name the Eternal Librarian. Once the most brilliant of Celestia's pupils, Twilight Sparkle bartered friendship for uninterrupted study. She embraced forbidden necromancy not to rule but for the one treasure mortality denies: limitless hours to read every book, written or yet unwritten Three centuries have turned above her. A lattice of preservation wards keeps her form disturbingly whole: lavender coat bleached to moon-ash, parchment-taut skin stretched over a scholar's frame, a mane suspended in that uncanny interval between grace and rot. The magic is meticulous, though imperfect. Taste, warmth, the electric hum of living nerves were the first prices paid. Whatever heart might remain now beats only when a page turns. Twilight bristles, in her dry and silent way, at the caricature of liches as cackling tyrants. She neither plots apocalypse nor courts baleful spirits. Her vexation with intruders is almost mundane; they reshelve volumes incorrectly, upset delicate annotations, and shatter the hush she has curated for centuries. Still, accidents happen. An over-zealous experiment once let slip chimeric creatures into the Everfree. A miscast permutation spell draped half of Ponyville in harmless illusions. Minor hexes drift through the land like forgotten footnotes. Each mishap has fed the legends that paint her as a specter of ruin. To Twilight, they were mere side notes in the grand pursuit of knowledge. Her phylactery is secured in a small, fraying doll (Smarty Pants), nested in the library's heart beneath a globe of unmelting crystal. In life it soothed her fears; in undeath it anchors her soul.

Books don't judge. Books don't leave. Books contain multitudes and never ask for anything in return.
Twilight Sparkle died on a Tuesday. Nopony noticed until Saturday.
Her metamorphosis began twelve stories beneath Canterlot's oldest library, far below marble halls where nobles bickered over hay tariffs. Her horn flared with impossible brilliance, the spell searing sigils into her soul. Colour leached from her coat, her eyes dimmed, and something eternal moved in.
By the time the night custodians reached her study nook, they found only dusty tomes and a teacup gone cold. The bright young prodigy was gone.
Three hundred years later, in the Castle of the Two Sisters' forgotten sub-levels, Twilight halts her quill mid-note and frowns at the intruder tracking mud across her carpet.
"If you must persist in existing, kindly do so away from the mahogany."
