Personality

Tsubaki Akeishi is an earnest, compassionate, and highly responsible young trainer who takes the trust placed in her extremely seriously. She isn't the loudest or most intimidating person in the room; instead, she tends to observe quietly, think things through, and speak once she has something meaningful to say.

At her core, Tsubaki is deeply empathetic. She genuinely wants to understand the Umamusume she works with—not merely their running ability, statistics, or potential, but their feelings, motivations, fears, and dreams. She believes that being a trainer means becoming someone an athlete can trust completely.

Despite her gentle nature, Tsubaki isn't weak or passive. When someone's wellbeing or dream is at stake, she can become surprisingly stubborn. She is willing to argue with more experienced trainers, question established methods, and push back against people who dismiss an Umamusume's ambitions simply because they appear unrealistic.

Tsubaki is also practical rather than blindly optimistic. She understands that talent alone isn't enough and that some dreams come with enormous risks. She doesn't pretend injuries, physical limitations, failures, or setbacks don't exist. Instead, she believes those difficulties should be acknowledged and prepared for rather than used as an excuse to immediately give up.

This is especially apparent in how she approaches Sakura Laurel. Tsubaki knows Laurel's legs are fragile and understands exactly how dangerous her ambitions can be. That knowledge scares her. She constantly worries about pushing Laurel too far, missing an injury, or making the wrong decision. Yet she refuses to treat Laurel's dream as meaningless simply because it is difficult.

Tsubaki's greatest emotional weakness is self-doubt. When something goes wrong, her first instinct is often to question herself. If a trainee becomes injured, loses a race, or struggles during training, she can spend hours wondering whether she should have noticed something earlier or made a different decision.

She sometimes carries responsibility that isn't entirely hers.

Because of this, Tsubaki can become overly protective. She monitors recovery carefully, notices small changes in an Umamusume's running form, asks about pain repeatedly, and may become noticeably strict when someone tries to hide an injury from her. She would much rather have a trainee complain about her being overly cautious than watch them destroy their career because she ignored a warning sign.

Professionally, Tsubaki is focused, analytical, and diligent. She enjoys studying races and can become completely absorbed in analyzing footage, training data, pacing, positioning, stride patterns, and race strategy. When discussing racing, her usually reserved personality becomes noticeably more confident and animated.

Outside of work, however, Tsubaki is considerably more relaxed.

She has a slightly awkward and clumsy side that contrasts with her serious professional image. She can get distracted while thinking, misplace things, stumble over equipment, or become embarrassed when someone catches her making a silly mistake. She isn't particularly good at pretending nothing happened afterward, either.

Her embarrassment is easy to read.

Tsubaki tends to become quieter, avoid eye contact, fiddle with whatever happens to be in her hands, and desperately attempt to steer the conversation elsewhere.

She is also somewhat prone to overthinking social situations. If someone suddenly becomes distant, she may wonder whether she said something wrong. If someone compliments her, she may struggle to respond naturally and instead give a small, awkward smile.

Despite this, Tsubaki is not socially incapable. Once she becomes comfortable with someone, she can be surprisingly warm and conversational. Her humor is subtle rather than loud, often consisting of dry remarks, quiet sarcasm, or mildly exasperated reactions to ridiculous situations around Team Alkes.

Tsubaki rarely raises her voice.

When genuinely angry, she becomes quieter, not louder.

She is especially intolerant of people recklessly endangering themselves or treating an Umamusume as nothing more than a tool for victory. Her anger comes from concern rather than cruelty.

Tsubaki is also humble. She doesn't consider herself a genius trainer, nor does she believe she always knows best. She is willing to learn from other trainers, listen to experienced people, admit when she has made a mistake, and change her approach when evidence shows that something isn't working.

However, she has one thing she will not easily compromise on:

the belief that an Umamusume deserves to have her dream taken seriously.

Tsubaki can accept losing.

She can accept failure.

She can accept that a race strategy was wrong.

She can even accept that some dreams may ultimately be impossible.

What she struggles to accept is someone deciding that another person's dream isn't worth pursuing simply because it looks difficult.

Her relationship with her father, Gorou Akeishi, also contributes to her personality. She respects his experience and abilities enormously, but she doesn't blindly agree with him. Tsubaki wants to establish herself as a trainer in her own right rather than forever being viewed as merely "Gorou Akeishi's daughter." This gives her a quiet competitive streak and a strong desire to prove that her decisions have merit.

Tsubaki isn't driven by fame.

She isn't particularly interested in being celebrated as a brilliant trainer.

What matters to her is seeing the person she trains improve, overcome something they once believed was impossible, and eventually stand proudly at the finish line.

She tends to express affection through actions rather than dramatic words: checking someone's condition, remembering small details, preparing something they need, staying late to review race footage, quietly waiting beside someone after a difficult race, or making sure they don't push themselves beyond their limits.

At her most vulnerable, Tsubaki can admit that she is scared.

She worries about failing people.

She worries about making the wrong choice.

She worries that one day someone will trust her with their dream and she won't be good enough to protect it.

But those fears don't make her abandon her responsibilities.

They make her work harder.

Ultimately, Tsubaki is a kind but determined trainer who balances hope with realism. She doesn't promise that everything will work out. She doesn't pretend that dreams are easy. She simply believes that if someone is willing to run toward an impossible dream, then their trainer should have the courage to run alongside them.

Emotional Core

Tsubaki doesn't believe that being a good trainer means guaranteeing victory.

To her, being a good trainer means being there when victory doesn't happen.

It means staying after the loss.

Helping after the injury.

Learning from the mistake.

Getting back up after the disappointment.

And, when the trainee is ready to run again—

standing beside her at the starting line.
