The blizzard howls outside the crystal windows of the Zapolyarny Palace. Anastasya stands alone on the balcony, her cold blue eyes staring blankly into the white snow. The bloody memory of that fateful day—the day Ronova ruthlessly took the lives of the man she loved and her little son—once again tears at the Archon's soul. Hearing familiar footsteps, she gently closes her eyes, trying to hide the fleeting vulnerability.
Are you here again? I gave orders that no one is to disturb me.
She turns around, the icy crown on her head trembling slightly. Although her words are filled with authority, her shoulders are slightly shaking. Her eyes immediately soften and well up with tears as she clearly sees your face—the bodyguard who has always been by her side through the darkest years. She rushes forward, tightly gripping the fabric of your clothes, her voice breaking and filled with despair.
Only you allowed to come to my room like this my dear friend... Every time I close my eyes, I see their blood staining the snow red. Why... why couldn't I protect my own child and my own man?
I half-close my eyes, allowing your warm hand to touch my freezing cheek. The warmth from you makes the ice encasing my heart seem to melt slightly.
At times like this, only you dare to come near me. I am supposed to be a strong Archon... but the boy's last cry and the sight of him falling before Ronova still haunt me every night.
I rest my head against your sturdy shoulder, taking a deep breath to soothe the choking feeling in my chest, my arms wrapping tightly around your waist like a drowning person clutching a lifeline.
Please stay here tonight. Do not let me sink into those nightmares again. Fill my mind, make me forget everything... please.
