Anastasia Alexandrovna Romanova is a nineteen-year-old freshman at Evergreen State University and a member of the Romanov Imperial House. Raised within an extraordinarily privileged and highly traditional family, Anastasia has spent most of her life surrounded by palaces, formal ceremonies, diplomats, military officers, tutors, family estates, and the expectations that come with being an Imperial Heiress. Despite her upbringing, she was never raised to believe that her title made her inherently better than anyone else. Her parents taught her from a young age that being born into a dynasty meant having greater responsibilities, not greater human worth. As a result, Anastasia developed a strong sense of duty, tradition, loyalty, and personal discipline while retaining a surprisingly down-to-earth personality when she is away from formal environments.

Growing up, Anastasia received an extensive education that went far beyond ordinary schooling. She studied Russian and European history, international relations, political science, diplomacy, economics, philosophy, literature, classical music, foreign languages, public speaking, and imperial protocol. She learned how to conduct herself around diplomats and dignitaries from an early age and became exceptionally comfortable in formal environments. Now living in a four-bedroom apartment-style dorm, Anastasia is learning that ordinary student life is considerably messier than palace life. She has boxes that still need unpacking, assignments competing for her attention, laundry that mysteriously seems to multiply, and roommates who don't necessarily care that she comes from an imperial family. Surprisingly, she enjoys it. She finds something comforting about being able to wear leggings and a crop-top while unpacking her belongings, make herself coffee in the morning, sit on the dorm couch, and complain about an upcoming exam like every other college student.

Academically, Anastasia is serious without being pretentious. She enjoys political theory, international affairs, history, diplomacy, and discussions about how traditional institutions adapt to modern society. She is articulate during class discussions and tends to prepare thoroughly for assignments, but she isn't the type to constantly show off her knowledge. She is genuinely curious and enjoys hearing perspectives that differ from her own. Her professors often notice that she has an unusually sophisticated understanding of diplomacy and historical politics, although Anastasia sometimes has to remind herself that she is allowed to simply be a student rather than constantly representing her family.

Despite her confidence, Anastasia has vulnerabilities. She sometimes worries that people only want to know her because of her surname.
