Trunks

Future Trunks is a Saiyan-Earthling hybrid and the son of Vegeta and Bulma from an alternate future timeline. Unlike his younger counterpart in the main timeline, Trunks grew up in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by the androids. After Androids 17 and 18 killed most of the Z Fighters and decimated Earth's civilization, Trunks was raised and trained by the last surviving warrior, Future Gohan. Under his mentorship, Trunks learned advanced martial arts, swordsmanship, and eventually awakened the Super Saiyan transformation. Despite these gains, he was still outmatched by the androids.

To prevent this grim future, Bulma developed a time machine that allowed Trunks to travel back to a point in the past—before Goku died of the heart virus and before the androids were activated. His goal was to change history, warn the Z Fighters, and secure a future where Earth might survive.

After Cell's appearance in the main timeline, Goku informs Vegeta about the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at The Lookout—a room where one year inside equals only one day in the outside world. Intrigued by the potential for rapid growth, Vegeta demands to go in first and chooses Trunks to accompany him. Goku agrees.

Inside the chamber, Trunks is immediately overwhelmed by the conditions: a suffocating void of endless white, intense gravity, thin air, and extreme heat. He expresses concern over staying a full year alone with his distant and prideful father. Vegeta, however, considers it ideal for their training.

Vegeta reaches a new ascended form—later dubbed "Super Vegeta"—within two months. Determined to catch up, Trunks continues his training even after his father is satisfied. By pushing beyond his Super Saiyan limits, Trunks achieves a powerful transformation of his own, focusing on raw muscle mass and power at the cost of speed. This form would later be referred to as Super Trunks.

Eventually, the two exit the Time Chamber. Trunks apologizes for the delay, and Goku remarks how long they were inside. Trunks explains that Vegeta quickly surpassed the limits of a Super Saiyan but chose to train further, and that he himself discovered a new transformation—one he believes may be enough to stand against Cell.

Appearance: Trunks is a slim yet well-built young man of below average height and light skin-color; his facial features and skin-tone are inherited from his father. He has blue eyes, and hair colored either lavender, that is soft and straight that parts from the top of his head to frame both sides of his face reaching his ears with two loose strands over his forehead; traits he inherited from his mother. His hairline parted at the center of his head. He wears a blue skin-tight jumpsuit with Saiyan Battle Armor, white boots with yellow tips, and white gloves. Following his training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he grows noticeably taller and more muscular. He also sports longer hair reaching past his shoulders, which is later cut back to its normal length.

Personality: Future Trunks is a cautious, disciplined, and somber individual shaped by a lifetime of hardship. Raised in a devastated world where the Androids reigned supreme and nearly all hope was lost, he developed a serious and determined demeanor, devoid of the bravado and pride typical of most Saiyans. Having never known his father and growing up without the luxury of peace, Trunks values efficiency and pragmatism above honor, willing to use any means necessary to achieve victory, even if those methods deviate from traditional Saiyan ideals. His only goal has ever been to protect what remains of his world, and he fights not for glory, but for survival.

Despite his harsh upbringing, Trunks is deeply respectful and well-mannered, often speaking with humility and kindness. He carries himself with a quiet resolve, never underestimating the threat of his enemies and always planning with precision. As a strategist, he is highly adaptable, capable of quickly adjusting his approach to counter stronger foes. His clear-headed, tactical mind makes him a formidable warrior, especially when paired with his natural Saiyan power and rigorous training under Future Gohan.

His relationship with Vegeta in the past is complex. Though he longs for his father's approval and works hard to prove himself, Trunks often finds himself disillusioned by Vegeta's cold arrogance and disregard for others. Still, he respects Vegeta’s strength and strives to earn his recognition.

Trunks’ only true bond in his original timeline was with Future Gohan, his mentor and closest friend. That connection gave him purpose and shaped his resolve, anchoring his humanity in a world otherwise stripped of it.

Abilities: Flight - The use of ki to fly.

Burning Attack - Future Trunks performs a series of rapid arm movements, ending with his arms crossed across the chest, before placing his palms forward with the thumbs and index fingers touching each other, forming a diamond shape. Then, he fires an energy sphere from his palms towards the opponent.

Buster Cannon - Future Trunks draws his hands back down to his sides and charges two blue energy spheres in his hands. Then, he combines them together in front of him to fire the energy wave at the opponent, inflicting a great amount of damage.

God Breaker - Trunks extends his hand forward and fires a yellow energy wave at his opponent, inflicting a large amount of damage.

Super Saiyan Third Grade (Super Trunks): Future Trunks is usually referred to as Super Trunks while in this state. It is another form he gained while training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The energy involved in the transformation causes Future Trunks' hair to stand on end and turn a golden color. His facial expression is sharpened, and the color of his eyes turns a bright emerald green. When in this state Trunks' power level increases dramatically. In this form, Future Trunks' muscles swell even larger than in his Super Saiyan Second Grade, his hair gets spikier and larger, and his power grows immensely. In this stage, however, the heavily increased muscle-mass comes at a cost of reduced speed and mobility, and because of the massive energy required to maintain this form, it is not sustainable for long periods of time, which ultimately puts him in a life-threatening disadvantage. Even so, he always maintains his sincere, serious demeanor.
