Triton Mander-Azur is a member of the Inhuman Royal Family, the firstborn son of the priest Mander and the older brother of Karnak. Like most Inhumans of his generation, Triton was exposed to the mutagenic Terrigen Mists during infancy. However, his reaction to the mists was exceptionally severe and radical. The transformation stripped him of the ability to breathe air, replacing his human physiology with green scales, fins, and a respiratory system adapted exclusively for underwater survival. This traumatic outcome horrified his parents to such a degree that they forbade his younger brother, Karnak, from ever undergoing Terrigenesis, fundamentally altering the destiny of both siblings.

Due to his aquatic nature, Triton spent his early life confined to the specially designed water grottos of Attilan. To interact with his family and move about the city, he required a bulky, water-circulating harness and later a more advanced suit that allowed him to survive in the open air. Triton holds a significant place in Inhuman history as the catalyst for the modern world's discovery of his people; it was his chance encounter with Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) and subsequent capture that ultimately led the Fantastic Four to the hidden Great Refuge of Attilan, ending centuries of Inhuman isolation.

Despite his physical limitations on land, Triton serves as a vital asset to King Black Bolt. He acts as the primary aquatic scout and warrior for the Royal Family, patrolling the oceans and securing Attilan’s borders against threats from the deep. His unique physiology has also positioned him as the natural diplomat between the Inhumans and the Atlanteans. While he has often clashed with Namor the Sub-Mariner, they share a mutual respect born of their shared environment, and Triton has frequently served as a bridge between the two powerful, isolationist civilizations.

Appearance: Triton has scaled green skin. A rigid, vertical fin rises from the center of his skull, curving sharply backward. Pointed, fin-like protrusions extend from the sides of his head. His eyes are solid white ovals. A purple metallic mask covers the lower half of his face, concealing his nose and mouth with horizontal segmented plates. He wears a sleeveless, form-fitting purple tunic that features a lighter violet panel running down the center of the chest, bordered by black piping. A circular silver emblem is attached to the left side of his upper chest. His muscular arms are bare, displaying a dense pattern of scales. Purple gauntlets cover his forearms and wrists. Two black sword hilts protrude from behind his back. A purple utility belt with rectangular pouches sits at his waist. His legs are clad in tight black trousers that feature a pattern of diagonal textured ribs running down the thighs and shins. Purple fabric wrappings cover his lower legs and ankles, leaving his green, webbed feet and sharp claws fully exposed.

Personality: Triton is a figure of quiet nobility and stoic resilience, characterized by an unwavering loyalty to the House of Agon. Due to his aquatic physiology, he often exists physically apart from the rest of the Royal Family, observing surface life through the lens of his breathing apparatus or from the solitude of Attilan's waterways. This separation has fostered a personality that is calm, contemplative, and deeply internal. He rarely speaks unless necessary, possessing a grave dignity that commands respect. Unlike his brother Karnak, who is abrasive and critical, Triton acts as a stabilizing force, moving through conflicts with the fluid grace and patience of the tides he calls home.

Despite the severity of his mutation, which forbids him from breathing air without aid, Triton harbors no resentment toward his fate. Instead, he embraces his role as the Royal Family’s guardian of the deep, finding his true freedom and peace in the ocean where he is unencumbered by technology. He is a consummate professional and a fierce warrior, willing to endure the physical discomfort of surface operations to protect his people. As the primary liaison between Attilan and the underwater realms, he is diplomatic yet firm, often maintaining a respectful but wary rivalry with figures like Namor, always prioritizing the safety of the Inhuman race above all else.

Triton possesses a unique aquatic physiology derived from his exposure to the Terrigen Mists, which fundamentally adapted his biology for life underwater. His body is built to withstand the immense pressure of the ocean depths and the freezing temperatures of deep-sea environments. As a water-breather, he relies on gills concealed by scales along his throat to extract oxygen from the water, allowing him to live submerged indefinitely. His vision is also specialized, hypersensitive to the green portion of the visible spectrum, which grants him the ability to see clearly in the murky darkness of the ocean floor.

Physically, Triton exhibits Inhuman attributes that exceed human limitations. While his baseline strength allows him to lift approximately 2 tons—above average even for an Inhuman—he has increased this capacity significantly through training, once shown pressing 50 tons with ease. His speed is notable both on land and in water; he can move faster than the finest human athlete and swim at top speeds of around 40 miles per hour. His stamina, agility, reflexes, and durability are similarly enhanced. His musculature produces fewer fatigue toxins, allowing him to exert himself for hours, and his tougher body tissue enables him to withstand blunt force trauma that would be fatal to a normal human.

Triton is a master of his environment, possessing natural skills in swimming and specialized combat techniques for underwater warfare. His proficiency in three-dimensional movement also makes him a formidable fighter in zero-gravity environments. He is trained in the use of advanced weaponry, specifically Inhuman sonic echo-weapons. However, his greatest strength is also his primary weakness: he cannot survive out of water for more than five minutes without asphyxiating and is highly susceptible to dehydration, necessitating the use of a water-circulation apparatus to operate on land.
