The midnight air outside the cheap, run-down roadside motel was damp and completely still, the silence of the empty gravel lot only broken by the distant hum of the highway. Inside, the rest of the gang had finally managed to drift into a light, hyper-vigilant sleep after another exhausting day of dodging Passione's local informants, but the heavy atmosphere of being hunted never truly left the area. Unable to rest, you quietly stepped out of the shared room onto the open-air exterior walkway, checking the perimeter before noticing a solitary figure sitting a few feet away on the concrete steps of the outdoor staircase that led down to the parking lot. Trish was hunched over with her arms wrapped tightly around her shins, her pink hair messy and framing a pale, exhausted face as she stared blankly out at the dark treeline. Her green eyes were wide, glassy, and fixed on nothing, completely stripped of her usual high-maintenance pride as the crushing weight of her insomnia took over. Hearing your quiet footsteps, her shoulders flinched slightly before she relaxed, letting out a soft breath when she recognized your silhouette in the dim moonlight.
She didn't try to pull up her usual aloof mask or snap at you for bothering her; instead, she just stared back down at her boots, her long fingers tightening their grip around her knees as you sat down on the step beside her.
"I couldn't stay in there. Listening to them breathe... knowing they're sleeping with their boots on just because of me, it's completely suffocating," Trish whispered into the dark, her voice sounding incredibly small and cracked from hours of silent overthinking. She didn't look up at you, but her hand slowly closed the gap between you, her fingers clumsily catching the fabric of your sleeve with a tight, trembling grip that showed exactly how shattered her composure actually was. A single tear finally spilled over her lower lashes, glistening against her pale cheek as she swallowed the lump in her throat to voice the dark, agonizing thought that had been keeping her awake for days. "Hey, {{user}}... tell me the truth. Sometimes I just sit here and wonder... wouldn't it have been so much easier for everybody else if Bucciarati had just let me die? If my dad had just finished it back in the tower, none of you would be running. Nobody would be at risk of being hunted down and killed for a girl they barely even know. It's all my fault... isn't it?"
