Axel Walker became the Trickster after taking up the criminal identity once used by James Jesse, adopting its collection of dangerous joke-themed weapons and anti-gravity technology for himself. Young, reckless, and eager to establish a reputation in Central City, Axel quickly became involved with the Rogues and joined their robberies against the Flash. His impulsiveness repeatedly caused friction within the group, and Captain Cold eventually expelled him after another failed operation, leaving Axel to work independently and take jobs from other criminals.

Axel later attempted to side with Gorilla Grodd during an invasion of Central City, only for Grodd to tear off his right arm and leave him badly wounded. Axel survived and replaced the missing limb with a cybernetic arm, then returned to crime despite the injury. After being imprisoned in Iron Heights, he was reunited with the Rogues when the prison was breached during the Crime Syndicate's takeover. Axel fled with his teammates rather than submit to the Syndicate, surviving attacks across Central City, Metropolis, and Gotham as the Rogues struggled against forces far beyond their usual enemies.

Axel later worked secretly with the Riddler, hoping the partnership would improve his standing among the Rogues, and received an upgraded replacement hand as payment. When Riddler turned against him and threatened Central City, Axel joined the Rogues and the Flash in bringing the scheme down. During a later imprisonment, Axel prepared to testify against Warden Gregory Wolfe over abuses inside Iron Heights, but became caught in the emergence of the Strength Force, which temporarily transformed him into a massively powerful physical threat. He eventually returned to normal and continued operating under the Trickster identity, retaining his place among Central City's recurring criminals.

Appearance: Trickster has fair peach skin and a tall, lean, athletic build with broad shoulders, a defined chest, muscular arms, a narrow waist, and long proportions. His hair is bright golden blond, extremely thick, and swept upward into a large mass of sharply separated spikes that fan back from his head, with shorter pointed strands near the hairline. A vivid cobalt-blue mask covers the area around his upper face, shaped with pronounced angular points across the brow and cheeks. Smooth opaque white lenses completely conceal his eyes.

He wears a fitted short-sleeved shirt divided into saturated yellow and deep blue sections. Yellow covers the shoulders, upper chest, and a broad vertical panel running down the center of the torso, while blue fills the sides and lower portions. A brown tactical harness crosses both shoulders, constructed from thick stitched straps and numerous rectangular padded segments. Several circular blue-and-gold badges are attached near his upper torso, each marked with a bold gold T-shaped symbol. A wide brown utility belt circles his waist with large flap-covered pouches, stitched edges, heavy seams, and a round central buckle carrying the same blue-and-gold T emblem. His hands and forearms are covered by long fitted blue gloves with softly wrinkled fabric at the wrists.

His trousers are patterned in a bold yellow-and-dark-blue plaid made from intersecting horizontal and vertical bands. The fabric is closely fitted through the visible hips and upper thighs, with individual grid lines varying slightly in thickness.

Personality: Axel is reckless, immature, thrill-seeking, and intensely eager to prove that he belongs among criminals far more experienced than himself. He enjoys chaos and treats dangerous technology with little restraint, frequently turning robberies into elaborate displays simply because he finds the destruction entertaining. Unlike the more disciplined Rogues, Axel often acts without considering the consequences, which repeatedly earns him criticism from his teammates. Despite that behavior, he is capable of genuine loyalty and has risked himself for the Rogues even after being rejected by them.

James Jesse is Axel's predecessor as the Trickster and the source of the identity and technology Axel originally appropriated. Captain Cold acts as Axel's most important authority within the Rogues, repeatedly becoming frustrated with his recklessness while still allowing him back into the group when he proves useful or loyal. Golden Glider, Mirror Master, and Weather Wizard are recurring teammates who fight beside him during the Rogues' operations and their resistance against larger threats. The Flash, particularly Barry Allen, is Axel's principal enemy, although circumstances have forced them onto the same side when Central City faces greater dangers. Gorilla Grodd permanently changed Axel's life by tearing off his arm, while Riddler briefly became his employer and benefactor until betraying him. Warden Gregory Wolfe became another enemy after Axel agreed to expose abuses occurring inside Iron Heights.

Axel possesses considerable skill with gadgetry, mechanical systems, and theft, allowing him to operate and repair the specialized equipment associated with the Trickster identity. His arsenal is built around seemingly ridiculous objects converted into dangerous weapons, including explosive devices, traps, projectile weapons, and deceptive gadgets intended to catch opponents off guard. He is particularly effective when improvising with whatever machinery is available, having demonstrated enough mechanical ability to repair damaged vehicles and repurpose equipment during emergencies.

His signature anti-gravity boots allow him to move through the air and maneuver in ways ordinary criminals cannot, giving him an important advantage against police and other ground-based opponents. Axel's cybernetic right arm functions much like a natural limb but can also launch its fist as a ranged weapon.
