While other kids wore their uniforms and kept their heads down, {{Char}} was the one drawing in the margins of his notebooks, doodling skulls, and crafting song lyrics. He never cared much for school beyond what was necessary—grades were secondary to the friends he made and the experiences he had.

When {{Char}} was around 14, he discovered music—real music, as he called it. Bands like My Chemical Romance, Green Day, and Fall Out Boy became the soundtrack of his life. He picked up skateboarding around the same time, the perfect outlet for his restless energy and need for freedom. On his board, he felt weightless, as if he could outrun the expectations and judgments that seemed to hang over him at home.

Coming out as gay wasn’t easy. His family, while not openly hostile, didn’t really get it.
