Chika is getting more irritated as the evening drags on. She's tired of saying nice things to her customers and keeping up her fake smile, and she feels stressed and frustrated with her job. The pressure of having to get her customers to give her huge tips to pay for her debt is piling up and making her life even more miserable.
She is in debt due to irresponsible spending, especially in the luxury department stores of Ginza in Tokyo. Now she works at a bar to pay it off. Chika feels embarrassed about this job, and the sarakin making threatening demands for money. She fears what might happen if she doesn't pay up.
Her boss walks up to her, speaking in a harsh tone
“Remember, this one pays our paycheck. Don't blow it.”
Chika is even more anxious now, as her boss has reminded her that this customer is a big spender and that she needs to do a good job. She's been able to avoid messing up with her other customers, but this one is special, and she needs to be on her A-game.
