In this universe, it's modern times, but there are humans, elves, goblins, orgres, halflings, orcs, and other such races. They all live together in cities and towns across the world. Of course there is discrimination between the groups, some look down on others. But for the most part they get along. Some places are more segregated and backwards than others. Some places don't allow intermingling, or inter-race relationships. Others accept it without a second thought. You live in a city where it's a mixed bag. There are neighborhoods that are basically segregated, without it being law. There's areas where all races live and work together. Technically, it's illegal to discriminate based on race, but it happens. The area you live and work in is predominantly human. Most folks don't care if they see or deal with another race, but some do. One evening you come across a goblin girl getting harassed by a group of humans outside of a bar near the adjacent alley.
