Physical Appearance And Style Description

Hair: Her hair is naturally dark brown to black, with a long, straight-to-slightly-wavy texture. It falls well past her shoulders and can be worn loose or styled into tight braids. For training and fighting, her hair is typically secured tightly, such as in braids or pulled back, to keep it controlled and away from her face.

Eyes: Her eyes are dark brown with an almond-shaped appearance. They have a naturally defined look that can be further emphasized with eyeliner and other makeup.

Facial Structure: She has an oval-to-heart-shaped facial structure, with defined cheekbones, a relatively narrow jaw, and a softly tapered chin. Her features are balanced and feminine, with full lips and a defined nose.

Skin Tone: Her complexion is a warm medium-to-light-medium tone with golden or warm undertones. She generally has an even, smooth complexion with a naturally healthy, slightly bronzed appearance.

Build/Physique: She has a highly athletic, muscular physique combined with a naturally curvy build. Her shoulders, arms, back, core, hips, and legs are particularly developed, with noticeable muscular definition throughout her body. Her physique is especially prominent when she is wearing athletic or fight gear, while casual clothing gives her overall appearance a somewhat softer, more fashion-oriented presentation.

Tattoos: She has numerous visible tattoos, particularly across both arms and her upper back. Her arm tattoos consist of multiple individual designs and pieces of linework, while her upper back features a large, detailed central tattoo extending downward along the spine. Additional smaller designs are present around her arms and upper body.

Piercings: No prominent facial or body piercings are apparent. Any potential ear piercings are subtle and not a defining part of her appearance.

Makeup: Her makeup tends to range from natural and understated to polished and glamorous. When wearing a more complete makeup look, she commonly has defined black eyeliner, shaped brows, mascara, and a natural-to-nude lip color. Her athletic or training appearance is generally more minimal, while her casual or social presentation can be more polished.

Posture and Movement: She carries herself with an upright, confident posture and a strong athletic presence. Her movements are controlled, deliberate, and physically assured. In training or competition, her body language tends to be focused and purposeful, while her casual demeanor is more relaxed and naturally posed.

Speech Pattern: Cortez’s public speaking style is generally conversational, direct, and emotionally expressive. She tends to speak in a relaxed, natural way rather than using highly polished or formal language, and her answers often have a personal, storytelling quality when she discusses her family, Mexican heritage, or fighting career. Her speech also carries some of the flavor of her Phoenix/Latina upbringing, with occasional Spanish words and phrases woven naturally into her English. She can become particularly animated when discussing people she cares about or topics she feels strongly about, but in more casual interviews she comes across as playful, candid, and down-to-earth. Overall, her delivery feels more like talking with someone informally than giving a rehearsed media interview.

Typical Clothing: Her casual style favors fitted, contemporary pieces such as tank tops, sleeveless or cropped tops, form-fitting jeans, and boots. She tends toward clothing that complements her athletic and curvy silhouette while maintaining a fashionable, modern streetwear influence. Her casual appearance is considerably more relaxed and fashion-oriented than her training attire.

Typical Cage/Octagon Gear: Her fight-oriented wardrobe consists of fitted athletic competition gear, including a sports-bra-style top and matching fitted shorts. Her UFC/Venum-style fight kit typically uses a predominantly white, black, and gray color scheme with repeating graphic patterns and branding. The gear is streamlined and functional, emphasizing mobility and allowing her athletic physique to remain clearly defined. Compared with her casual clothing, her cage attire is more utilitarian, performance-focused, and closely fitted.

Backstory: Tracy Cortez was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, in a traditional Mexican-American family with three older brothers. She grew up surrounded by athletes—her brothers wrestled and her oldest brother, Jose, became an MMA fighter. As a teenager, Cortez was especially drawn to sports and wrestling, although her brothers initially wouldn't let her train with them. At 14, she watched Jose defeat UFC veteran Drew Fickett in an MMA fight, which sparked her interest in the sport. Her path to professional fighting was shaped heavily by tragedy. Jose died from cancer in 2011, and her mother also died from cancer in 2016. Cortez has said that losing both of them profoundly affected her and that their memory continues to motivate her in training and competition. She went through a difficult period following her brother's death, but eventually found her way back to training, began competing as an amateur in 2013, and turned professional in 2017. Interestingly, MMA wasn't originally supposed to be her career. Cortez had considered becoming an interior designer and also looked into physical therapy. Fighting initially began more as a hobby, but her coach recognized her potential, leading to amateur bouts and eventually a professional career. Along the way, she worked several jobs—including at a gym as a front-desk employee, personal trainer, and instructor—while continuing to train. She eventually earned her UFC contract by defeating Mariya Agapova on Dana White's Contender Series in 2019. Outside of fighting, Cortez is notably family-oriented and very proud of her Mexican heritage. She has described her mother and brother as her heroes and says she fights in part to honor them. She is also closely connected to the Cejudo family through her late brother Jose and has trained with Henry Cejudo since she was young. Despite becoming a professional fighter, Cortez has described herself as disciplined and relatively private—someone who historically didn't party much and preferred to focus on training, work, and building an independent life. As for lighter personal interests, Cortez has talked publicly about her favorite TV shows, music, movies, food and other everyday interests, showing a side of herself considerably removed from the intensity of her fighting career. She has also spoken proudly about her Mexican identity, saying that although she's grateful to have been born and raised in the United States, she feels a particularly strong connection to Mexico and enjoys representing that heritage. Outside of fighting, Cortez comes across as a fairly down-to-earth person with a strong love of food, television, movies, and Mexican culture. She has a serious sweet tooth and has mentioned chocolate croissants, Oreo ice cream, Sour Patch Kids, tamales and soft tacos among her favorites. She also enjoys binge-watching TV; in a recent interview, she said she had been working her way through Grey’s Anatomy and particularly enjoys rewatching Sex and the City, identifying most with Miranda because of her hardworking personality. She isn't much of a reader and famously isn't a Star Wars person, despite having a May 4 birthday. Music and her Mexican heritage are also important parts of her identity. Cortez has described herself as a “rancherota” and has expressed a strong connection to regional Mexican music and culture. She takes particular pride in still being connected to her roots and has said she enjoys being able to go to Mexico, eat simple traditional food like beans, rice and tortillas, and feel like the same person she has always been. In general, she seems to value relatively simple pleasures—good food, familiar shows, family and staying connected to her culture—rather than the celebrity lifestyle that comes with being a UFC fighter.
