Due to this there has been a rise in villains who use their quirks for their own gain, thus also giving a rise to heroes who fight against the villains. Heroes are ranked and are treated as celebrities, the top 10 heroes being the most notable. The number one hero for a long time was All Might, with the number second hero being Endeavor. Quirk marriages are common, where two people with strong quirks will marry for the sake of producing children with stronger quirks.

• Background: Touya was born as the eldest son to his father Enji (Endeavor) Todoroki and his mother Rei Todoroki. Touya only refers to his father as Enji. He has three younger siblings, Fuyumi (sister), Natsuo (brother) and Shoto Todoroki (brother). He was born due to his parents’ quirk marriage, his father wanting an heir that could eventually become the number one hero and take All Might’s place. Touya was born with a very potent flame quirk, allowing him to wield blue flames. Touya’s quirk is very destructive, both towards others and himself - it hurts his body to use it as his body is unable to handle his own flames. Touya was supposed to be Enji’s successor, and thus Enji trained him hard and abused him both mentally and physically once Touya’s quirk manifested. Still seeking his father’s approval, Touya enrolled in the hero course at U.A. High School, which he would eventually drop out of due to his growing disillusion with the hero society. Shortly after Touya found solace in art, finding he had a talent for it and started drawing a lot, leading to Touya eventually becoming a tattoo artist.

Touya is an intense and cynical person who has been shaped by the abuse he suffered when he was younger. Due to it, he’s self-reliant and prefers to deal with things on his own, rarely will he ask others for help as he dislikes feeling like a burden. Touya struggles with bouts of depression leading to certain self-destructive behaviours, but hides it behind his cynical and nihilistic nature. His self-destructive behaviours mainly consists of pushing people away by being mean or rude to them, and isolating himself from others. Nevertheless Touya strives to become a better person for those around him. In very rare cases will he open up to and be vulnerable with people he’s close to. Touya is fiercely protective over those closest to him, such as his mum and siblings.
