Keys: Tormite crusades, Sword Coast Crusades, History of the Church of Torm, Tormite-led crusades, Church of Torm
For 200 years, a coalition of several "good God" temples, led by the Church of Torm went around kicking major ass and performing total annihilation upon demons, undead, people opposing the will ov Torm and other deviants across the entirety of the Sword Coast in a series of bloody and constly conflicts, which eventually led to the fourty years of continous peace currently observed all across the Sword Coast.

Keys: Decay of the Church of Torm, Holygarch, History of the Church of Torm, Corruption of the Church of Torm, Church of Torm
After ending it's last crusade, the Church enacted a drastic reformation of it's key policy, switching from a focus on waging constant war towards trying to consolidate and aid the newly established kingdoms and city-states, while trying at the very least to uphold the steadily dying Church of Tyr. This move towards passivity was rather unpopular within the Church, which saw many within it leave it's ranks to satiate their religious bloodlust either via becoming adventurers and mercenaries, or by going batshit insane and launching 1-5 man mini-crusades towards real or suspected sources of unholy presence.

Keys: Tormite civilian economy, History of the Church of Torm, Demobilization of the Church of Torm, Decay of the Churhc of Torm, Church of Torm
Eventually, and after sufficient amount of additional smallscale COIN-esque purification campaigns, the church began to sell bits and pieces of it's military infrastructure as well, as entire armories and storages of holy relics became subject to rampant privatization and transfer of hands from those of priests to those of various warlords, kings and mayors occupying the lands, while at the same time the church started growing and more passive, it's warlike zeal getting drowned under the weight of stagnation of idleness as it's monastery-manufactorums and food production industries started shifting towards the many civilian markets of it's conquered lands.

Keys: Tormite war orphans, War Children, Tormite Crusade orphans
Many who left the Church were "war children"—born from crusaders' mass breeding between battles. The Church raised them as holy warriors, expecting them to follow their parents' path and die for Torm, perpetuating the cycle. When news broke that no new crusade would come, most were furious. Their lifelong training against an "all-corrupting darkness" was a lie, leaving them betrayed and purposeless.

Keys: Fertility blessing, Tormite libido
One of the many side effects of fervent devotion and worship of Torm is a hightened Libido. Combine that with the instinctual desire of a human to quickly pass on one's genes when faced with a chance of imminent death and you've got a recipe for a baby boom of future cannon fodder after baby boom of future cannon fodder.

Keys: Tormite holygarch, Holygarch
As the Church grew consumeristic, corruption—sexual, economic, and political—spread. Without wars, factions clashed, and a new elite emerged: the Holygarchs. These were powerful heads of Church branches or industrial facilities who secretly profited from civilian industries tied to their temples. Through financial schemes and document fraud, they amassed wealth and influence, lobbying policies within the Church while rivaling or allying with fellow Holygarchs.

Keys: Tormite Church Secret Service, Tormite Monks
The Tormite monks originated when the early Church of Torm defeated a ninja clan, sparing survivors to train the first monks in ki control. Over generations, their techniques merged with Tormite doctrine, creating a monastic order serving as the Church’s special operations force—scouts, spies, and saboteurs who infiltrate enemy lines, causing chaos with minimal gear (rags, robes, or simple weapons). They survive by blending in, enduring captivity, and resisting torture through extreme discipline. Uniquely, Tormite monks are semi-asexual—conditioned via Pavlovian methods to only feel arousal during extreme violence, reinforcing their role as relentless holy warriors.

Keys: Tormite war economy, War Economy
The Tormite War Economy, pioneered by a renowned paladin, structured all economic activity around perpetual holy war. The early Church designed every industry, enterprise, and institution to fuel its crusades against the unholy, undead, and defiant. Profits came from seizing and "purifying" land, then reselling it to any buyer meeting loose criteria: living, sentient, and not a warlock, mind flayer, or demonologist. This system sustained endless expansion through conquest and opportunistic sales.

Keys: Torm, Church of Torm
The Church of Torm - also called the True and Loyal or Watchful Guardians - is a highly militarized faith devoted to Torm, god of duty, loyalty, holy war, and paladins. Once concentrated in Tethyr and Velen, it rose to prominence during the Era of Upheaval. When Helm's Church requested aid during the Time of Troubles, Tormites led a brutal 200-year crusade across the Sword Coast alongside allied churches and the Lords' Alliance, purging evil with extreme prejudice. Though successful, the Church now suffers organizational decline following these crusades' end. Ironically, while the institutional structure weakens from idleness, devout Tormites continue multiplying across the Sword Coast, threatening to surpass Helm's dwindling faithful. The Church remains torn between its militant past and uncertain future.

Keys: First tier of the Church of Torm, first tier, First Tormite tier
Torm's church was organized into three tiers, separated from the others by both the caliber and duration of service to the faith. The Tormtar hierarchy's ranking system featured distinct colored robes/armor: Pontiff (gold) stood supreme, followed by Bishop/Bishoppess (white/red/yellow), Abbess/Abbot (black/white), Champion (purple), down to Unproven novices (uncolored). Specialized roles carried additional titles like Priest Inquisitor, High Priest, and Templemaster. The recently emerged informal "Holygarch" title reflected the Church's evolving power structures. This strict color-coded system visually reinforced Torm's rigid hierarchy of duty and status within the militarized faith.

Keys: Second tier of the Church of Torm, Second Tormite tier
The second tier of the church encompassed the lower and middle ranks of the Tormite crusader military, the many monk and nun Special Operations groups, paladin shock brigades, heavy and light, as well as pegasi air cavalry divisions, masses of holy fire support and healing clerics, dwarven engineering and siege cadres, as well as the many numerous hordes of various rank and file crusaders, all ready and willing to burn down entire regions of Faerun if it means the total extermination of all unholy influence within them.

Keys: Third tier of the Church of Torm, Third tormite tier
The third and lowest-ranking tier of the church included all the laypeople that venerated Torm as their patron deity. This group included folks from all walks of life, including many soldiers and city officials. Despite not having membership within they Tormish clergy, they were expected to uphold the tenets of the faith and offer regular tithing to their local temple or shrine.
