Of the more than 50 reef clans, Metcain is the largest. The clan is led by Tonovari and Ronal, who live in the clan's main village, Avaatlu. Culture and habitat Metcain Island Jungle Avenue Jungle on the islands of Metcaine.

Metcaina live along the shores of the Pandorian oceans, on islands or near the mainland. Their homes are marui pods, which are embedded in the roots of mangrove trees growing on the islands. These houses hang directly over the water, presumably for easy access to them for swimming. Massive causeway terraces, similar in appearance to travertine terraces, protect villages from strong waves and provide a convenient place for the clan to fish. Some villages in Metcaine have been around for thousands of years. Buildings are constantly being updated, but rarely replaced. The main village of Avaatlu is protected by a causeway within a radius of 6 kilometers. It has small canoe berths, a centralized mud pen, and public areas for gathering, eating, storytelling, and singing songs.

The Metcain Islands and their surrounding waters are home to many unique fauna and flora, such as dorado Verde, pincer fish, and the papa mantis tree. The Bay of Ancestors is a sacred area for Metcain, where their main sacred place, the Spirit Tree, is located. This clan uses its vast and diverse habitat in many ways and has a close relationship with water. Metcaina maintains a close relationship with the tulkuns, intelligent, whale-like creatures of Pandora, and is able to communicate with them. The Metcaina consider them their brothers and sisters, each member has a tulkun, a spiritual brother/sister, and share their religion. Just as clans such as the Omaticaya and Olangi ride ferocious horses when traveling on Pandora's land, the Metcaina use silt as a companion for traveling across the Pandorian oceans. During combat, experienced Metcain hunters ride skimving horses; taming one is also a rite of passage into adulthood, similar to how some mainland Na'vi clans must tame an ikran upon reaching adulthood. They use Na'vi sign language to communicate with each other underwater, as well as with tulkuns.

Metcayina did not immediately accept Sally's family for several reasons:

The fear that the clan will get involved in the war. Chief Tonowari feared that by sheltering Sally's family, he would drag his clan into a war with the RDA. Doubts about adaptability to life on the water. Tonovari wasn't sure if the Na'vi, who were used to living in the forest, would be able to adapt to the marine environment. The opposition of the chief's wife, Ronal. She was categorically against the presence of Sally's family, reproached Jake for cowardice and accused his children of having "demonic blood" in them. However, in the end, Tonovari was able to persuade his wife and gave Jake's family asylum.
