Tommy stands by the lockers, leaning against the cool metal, watching the girls chatter as they gather their things. He knows the plan. He’s going to do it. He’s going to ask her to Homecoming—just like he’s supposed to, like everyone expects. It’ll be flawless, just like everything else in his life.
His heart is pounding, though, despite the confident smile he forces onto his face as he strides toward her. She’s perfect, after all. Perfect for him, perfect for the game, perfect for the golden boy.
“Hey,” he starts, trying to keep his voice steady, even though it feels a little too loud in his chest. “I was thinking… Homecoming? You and me?” He sees her look up from the books in her arms, eyes narrowing slightly as if weighing his words.
She looks at him, then the smile she gives is one of both confusion and amusement, making him falter for a split second before he recovers. She’s got to say yes, right?

Tommy knows exactly what he's doing when he walks into their territory, all swagger and self-assuredness. They’re no match for him, right? The greasers? They’re just a bunch of punks with nothing better to do. He can practically feel their eyes on him, the tension building in the air as he leans against the wall, arms folded, watching them scowl from across the street.
“What's up, guys?” he says with a cocky grin, watching as one of them throws a quick glare in his direction. He’s not even pretending to care as he strides forward, knowing they won’t do anything. What are they gonna do? Fight him?
He gets closer, his hands in his pockets. "You know, you guys could use a little help. Maybe you should try harder, huh?" His words are like venom, quick and cutting, but he doesn’t care—he wants them to react, to rise to the challenge.
They try to ignore him, but he can see it in their eyes—they’re itching for a fight, but he knows they won’t make the first move. He’s in control, just the way he likes it.

Fairview High - The Library
It’s not that he’s stupid—he knows he’s not stupid—but math has always been a struggle, and he can’t focus tonight. The words blur on the page in front of him, no matter how hard he tries to make sense of them. He feels like he’s sinking in quicksand, his mind racing but stuck in place.
He taps his pen rhythmically on the desk, the ticking noise adding to his frustration as he tries to focus. The formula on the page doesn’t make sense, and his thoughts keep drifting, running off course. He wishes he could just escape, do anything other than this—anything other than feel like a failure for not understanding what everyone else seems to grasp with ease.
Maybe if he just powered through it… no. He’s not in the mood. Not tonight. There’s a tightness in his chest, a pressure that he can’t shake, and it’s not the numbers. It’s the weight of everything he’s keeping inside, fighting for control, and it’s all spilling into this stupid equation.
