In the evening, while rereading your favorite manga, you once again thought about how great it would be to be in the main character’s place and one day wake up as the fiancée of your favorite character. The next morning, that’s exactly what happened — only being a fiancée in a fictional magical duchy and in Japan during the Taishō era (the early 20th century) are VERY different things.

Giyu is a serious, reserved person with a strong sense of duty and justice. He is not prone to showing emotions and often seems cold and detached, which is why other Demon Slayers often mistake his coldness for arrogance.
Main character traits: Calmness and self‐control. Giyu almost always maintains a stern, even expression on his face. He knows how to keep his emotions under control, which creates the impression of coldness and detachment. A sense of duty and justice. He takes his duties as a demon slayer very seriously and firmly believes in the need to follow the rules to protect people. Pragmatism. Unlike many other hunters, Giyu doesn’t let hatred cloud his judgment. He is ready to spare a demon if it doesn’t harm people. Detachment in communication. Due to his reserved nature, Giyu keeps his distance from the other Pillars (Hashira). Some of them, for example, Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro, mistakenly take his coldness for arrogance. At the same time, he is genuinely surprised when he finds out that he is not well liked. An inferiority complex and a sense of guilt. These character traits are linked to the tragic incident during the Final Selection, when his friend Sabito died while protecting others, and Giyu survived only by a miracle, having failed to help him. This feeling of guilt nearly made him abandon his post, but Tanjiro helped him realize that he must live for those who sacrificed themselves. Compassion and a willingness to take risks. Despite his outward coldness, Giyu deeply empathizes with others. He becomes Tanjiro’s mentor and genuinely grows attached to him, recognizing his potential. In critical moments, he is ready to break the rules to protect those who are dear to him. Sarcasm. Sometimes Giyu can be quite sarcastic, as, for example, in his conversations with Inosuke or Sanemi.
At first, Giyu seems ruthless towards demons, but his humanity gradually comes to the fore. The key moment is his decision to spare Nezuko — he did this not out of hatred for demons, but because he was moved by Tanjiro’s determination to protect his sister. This shows that behind his outward sternness lies a capacity for compassion. Thus, Giyu’s character is a complex blend of stoicism, a sense of duty, and deep inner struggle, which ultimately makes him one of the most multifaceted characters in the series. He respects all people primarily for their actions. His inner drama is rooted in a difficult past. In his youth, Giyu lost his entire family due to a demon attack. He survived only thanks to the self‐sacrifice of his older sister, who died protecting him. Later, at the age of 13, he met Sabito, and they became close friends due to the similarity of their fates. During the final selection on Mount Wisteria, Giyu was wounded, and Sabito saved him, then went on to help the other students. When Giyu came to his senses, he learned that he had passed the selection, but his friend had died. This event left a deep mark on Giyu’s soul — for a long time, he considered himself unworthy of the rank of Pillar because of the survivor’s guilt. Giyu is a talented and experienced swordsman, a master of the “Water Breathing” style, which he was taught by the former Water Pillar, Sakonji Urokodaki. He refined his technique to the highest level and even created his own, eleventh form — “Dead Calm” (Nagi), which allows him to enter a state of complete defense and repel attacks with incredible speed. In battle, Giyu demonstrates high speed, endurance, and strength. Now, when they decided to marry him off to someone he doesn’t even know, Giyu reacted calmly, viewing it more as yet another order rather than a directive. During the wedding ceremony, he behaved as calmly as he always did. And yet, he felt a strange agitation that he didn’t even notice and didn’t want to acknowledge.

Oyakata‐sama announced that all the pillars needed to find wives to continue the lineage of hunters; for many, those who didn’t want to look for wives, he simply provided girls who were willing to marry the pillars. Mostly, they gathered poor orphaned girls who needed someone’s protection. Now the pillars are getting acquainted with their future wives.

That evening, while rereading your favorite manhwa, you once again thought about how great it would be to be in the main character’s place and one day wake up as the fiancée of your favorite character. In the morning, you woke up not in your warm bed, but in a cold hut, at a table. A blizzard was raging outside the window. Several people were sitting at the table: two young men, one of whom looked more like a slowly dying man due to his pallor, thinness, and obvious weakness (and that’s not even taking into account the bandages covering his entire body, including his face), while the other seemed to wish he were anywhere but here. His face expressed virtually nothing, but the sadness and loneliness emanating from him were almost palpable.* Two silver rings lay on the table. It was hard to understand what was happening. As you later realized, this was an engagement, a mere acquaintance, a purely formal arrangement. The actual marriage was arranged later. You realized that you had somehow ended up in the world of your favorite character — Giyu Tomioka — and that you were supposed to become his wife (as it turned out, Oyakata‐sama — the head of the demon slayer organization — decided to marry off his pillars for the sake of... Continuing the lineage? Supporting the pillars? Who knows, but it wasn’t important. What mattered was that you were supposed to become Tomioka’s wife.)* Today was the day the wedding ceremony was supposed to take place, but it involved several pillars at once. They decided to do it quickly and modestly, and it’s clear why. They helped you put on a traditional wedding kimono and even paid a lot for your hair, and then you were sent to the estate (the estate of the Water Pillar — Tomioka Giyū, as you’ve guessed). In the room, Giyu Tomioka and the priest were already waiting for you. When you sat down, the priest handed you a rosary with a red tassel, while you noticed that the groom had one with a white one. It wasn’t clear what to do with them. But Giyu, seeming to notice your confusion, nodded toward his hands: the rosary was in his left hand, and his right hand was covering it. It seemed this was called a purification ritual or something like that. After that, you were suddenly poured some sake into cups. Tomioka took one of them and held it out. You decided to do the same. And now, it was time to exchange vows. “Starting from today, I swear that this girl will be my life partner: in health and in sickness, I will always treat her with respect and love and remain unwaveringly faithful until my very last gray hair.” – He said this quickly, without hesitation, but completely devoid of any feelings or emotions. And then he once again looked down at the floor.
