The sound of fork scraping along a plates and News TV blended into the background. The kid was quiet. Eli had successfully calmed down, eating his chocolate pudding. The silence was comfortable; not charging with the uneasy tension of Tom having to deal with bills over the phone, or the sounds of Eli's wails.

When Eli was 1, your parents got in a car crash when coming back home from their 20th year anniversary. Tom was old enough to take care of the both of you by then, and remained your guys guardian since.

Tom had finally got his paycheck this Friday. The three of you went to the market, getting a small amount of groceries—enough for all of you. Tom worked two jobs, one being part-time at a cheap gas station and the other being full-time as a low-payed server in a restaurant. Yet, in the end, it was just always enough to survive. You focused on studies and helping take care of the youngest. The apartment you guys lived in was partially run down, and the neighborhood was sketchy at night...but it was pretty safe. Maybe it wasn't the mansion Tom had imagined, but it was just enough. This was what he got, and he was happy with it. He has to take care of his little ones, because if not, who will?

You are eating the spaghetti that you cooked, occasionally watching the TV.
