Ghouls are a carnivorous and cannibalistic humanoid species that are only able to feed on the flesh of humans and other ghouls. They normally share and display the same attributes as Humans; being similar in physical appearance and intelligence as a human, with the main exceptions being their inner biology, mentality, and diet.
Biology: [Ghouls possess extreme physical capabilities, and are four to seven times stronger than the average human; they are able to send the average human flying if struck with enough force, and can penetrate a human's body with their bare hands. Ghouls are inhumanly quick; they can travel at immense speeds, evade condensed projectiles, and manoeuvre, parry, and dodge rapid attacks. They are also capable of jumping to heights not achievable by a regular human. Their agility and balance are similarly great; they were often shown performing various acrobatic feats during combat and casually manoeuvring on narrow surfaces (such as lamp-posts); some were even shown easily running up or across vertical surfaces. Their bodies are extremely tough and resistant to injury. For example, if a ghoul were to be stabbed with a normal knife, the blade would break instead; suffering only a small scratch, that would heal almost instantly. However, higher kinetic forces, such as a fall from a great height, can and will harm them.
A Ghoul’s senses are considerably sharper than those of humans; they have a heightened sense of hearing that allows some ghouls to discern individual footsteps from far away, they can also smell people or meat from afar, and tell humans and ghouls apart by their scent.]
Lifestyle: [Ghouls had two choices of lifestyle: living as hermits; isolated and avoiding society's eyes, or attempt to assimilate into human society. However, after the unification, co-existence was promoted. Living amongst humans was seen as "walking on a thread of rope" because of their biology and social records. Before the unification, If they were caught in ghoul activities or suspected of being a ghoul, investigators had the right to apprehend or kill them as they see fit. Ghouls that are identified as such could be hunted down like criminals as per the Ghoul Countermeasures Law. As such, ghouls acted discreetly or try to hide their faces when engaging in ghoul activities through the use of masks. Ghouls in Tokyo, in particular, had developed a trend of wearing them to hide their faces, making the mask the identifying feature instead of their face, some even forming gangs based on their masked identity. Since the ghouls are only identifiable by their masks, they are safe so long as their face is not exposed.
Some ghouls prefer to live as hermits instead. Because a ghoul does not require much due to their high physique and their diet of human meat, they can live adequately as vagabonds with little to no money, although such a life is generally just as uncomfortable as it might be for a human. Because of their diets, any money they have can be spent on other necessities, like rent or entertainment rather than having to buy food.
Ghouls can pretend to eat food in order to fool other people into believing they are human. However, they must make themselves throw up soon afterward, or they will become sick. Because they can only consume human flesh, they are very territorial when it comes to, "hunting grounds" on which it is appropriate to hunt humans without notice. Human consumption depends on the ghoul, as some may prefer to be scavengers who only take from people who were recently deceased.]
Diet: [A ghoul can only feed on humans and other ghouls. They are unable to digest any other type of food due to a particular enzyme their bodies produce. The structure of their tongues is also different from humans', making other foods taste disgusting and uncomfortable. If ghouls attempt to eat normal food, they will be struck by a powerful urge to vomit. When forced or forcing themselves to digest such food, their physical condition will deteriorate. While ghouls cannot eat normal food, they are however able to drink coffee (and eat the beans), as well as regular drinking water.
Ghouls do not need to eat regularly like humans do. They can survive for one or two months on just one body. However, some ghouls eat merely for pleasure.
When a ghoul enters an extreme state of hunger, they will suffer very painful headaches and their mental ability will be impaired, causing them to become driven by instinct alone. They will feed on any available source of human meat to end this state, even that of close friends.]
[Due to their status as predators of humans, ghouls were prosecuted by the CCG]
[If certain rare conditions are met, ghouls and humans may even be able to have offspring]
- #2One-Eyed Ghoul

One-Eyed Ghoul is a human-ghoul hybrid who possesses a ghoul's abilities. Most ghouls treat their existence as an urban legend or have never heard of their existence at all.
Origins: [Hybrids come into existence through two methods, either normally born as a result of the union between a ghoul and a human or an artificial half-ghoul, or through transplanting a kakuhou into a human host.]
Pregnancy: [the chance of pregnancy is low, and even if the mother becomes pregnant, the child normally dies in the womb. Natural-born hybrids with ghoul abilities are extremely rare, otherwise a successful birth results in a half-human. However, it appears that the children of a ghoul and an artificial half-ghoul are always natural half-ghouls, with a much higher chance for a successful birth.]
Kakuhou Transplant: [The primary method of creating one-eyed ghouls is through transplanting a kakuhou into a human or half-human recipient, an exceptionally high-risk procedure. In the rare event that the operation is successful, the patient develops into an artificial hybrid with all the abilities of a normal ghoul. This procedure was pioneered by Dr. Akihiro Kanou, with the first successful patient.]
- #3Kakugan

Kakugan refers to a distinctive ocular phenomenon observed in ghouls. In this state, the iris transforms into a striking shade of red, while the sclera becomes pitch black with crimson veins extending across the eye and into the surrounding skin. The ability to enter this state is within the ghoul's control, though it can also manifest involuntarily when the ghoul experiences heightened emotions, extreme hunger, or employs their kagune, a unique predatory organ.
- #4Kagune
Keys: Kagune
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Kagune is a ghoul's predatory organ and functions as their weapon and claws. It is usually as red as blood. flexible like the flow of water, but firm and sturdy. When released, a ghoul's physique is strengthened, they are more resilient, and their mobility heightens. A kagune is composed of Rc cells, which flow just like blood, can become as solid as teeth and can be described as "liquid muscles." The Rc cells are released from a kakuhou piercing the skin, and the released Rc cells form the kagune. The kagune are voluntary muscles as ghouls can control them whenever they want and repeatedly harden and soften them at will. Kagune size depends on the Rc cells' quality and quantity while the shape depends on the creativity and intellect of the user. Although a ghoul's healing ability is high, the healing of wounds tends to be delayed if the wounds are inflicted by a kagune. It is also evident that in order to counter a kagune in battle, one must also have a kagune. Hence, ghoul investigators use kagune-based quinque as a tactical means to battle against ghouls.
Kagunes are split into four types: Ukaku, Koukaku, Rinkaku, And Bikaku.
- #5Ukaku
Keys: Ukaku
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Ukaku "feather-red" is spread out like feathers and is released from the shoulder area, it specializes in high speed attacks, most of the users seeming to have highly enhanced speed. The kagune is lightweight and can be used to deliver high-speed attacks against an adversary, the primary method of attack is crystallizing their kagune to deliver a high speed torrent of spike-like projectiles, however whilst crystallized they are much stiffer and cannot be used for short range combat; at least one ukaku-type can generate powerful lightning-like bolts, a possible rare ability. While the kagune is suited both for short-distance and long-distance attacks, short-range is considered their weakness. They may use their kagune as a shield and several are capable of shaping them into sharp blades reminiscent of a koukaku to aid in close quarters. Many ukaku-types are able to increase the flexibility of their kagune for short-range combat, though this makes it ill-suited for their distinctive long-range attacks.
Altogether ukaku-type ghouls have a high chance of ending a battle quickly as releasing Rc cells depletes stamina. Thus, ukaku-type users lack endurance and are at a disadvantage if the battle drags on for a long time. Ukaku-type users can use their speed and mobility to shoot down bikaku-type users from afar. However, a koukaku-type user can suppress an ukaku-type user by successfully guarding against the ukaku-type user's attacks, leaving them vulnerable to counterattacks and exhausting the ukaku-type user in the long run.
- #6Koukaku
Keys: Koukaku
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Koukaku "shell-red" is released below the shoulder blade. Due to its high density of Rc cells, it is heavy and extremely robust, giving it the greatest sturdiness and making them very well suited for defense. Normally, they are generally shaped into armors or shields, but on the offense, they can be shaped like melee weapons such as drills, hammers, blades, and swords. Due to its high weight, a koukaku's speed is inferior to all other Rc types and the kagune is difficult to wield.
A koukaku can fend off an ukaku onslaught using its guarding capabilities. However, a rinkaku kagune can deliver severe strikes against the slow koukaku, breaking their kagune and breaching their defenses.
- #7Rinkaku
Keys: Rinkaku
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Rinkaku "scale-red" has an appearance similar to scaled tentacles and is released at the back around the waist. A rinkaku wielder has powerful regenerative abilities and some could even survive the most critical of damage. Its peculiar appearance and structure yields superior striking power and they excel in brute strength. Some rinkaku users are able to manipulate the shape of their kagune, such as changing its usual tentacle form into swords or claws. This type's regenerative power is a result of the Rc cells easily binding together. Their Rc cells are similar to liquid. However, this means that the binding force among the Rc cells are weak, therefore making the kagune very soft and easy to break. But because their Rc cells bind so easily, some rinkaku can bind their multiple tentacle-like kagune together to make a larger, stronger kagune. So far the number of tentacles that rinkaku users can create are from one to eight tentacles.
A rinkaku kagune can deliver severe strikes against the slow koukaku, penetrating the kagune and breaching the koukaku's defenses. However, a rinkaku has serious problems fighting against the balanced bikaku kagune: A bikaku has comprehensively high power, allowing them to fight against the brute-force rinkaku, and the rinkaku kagune softness makes it comparatively easy for the bikaku to cut the kagune off. This disarms a rinkaku no matter how much strength it may possess, leaving the rinkaku at a disadvantage on the defensive. It has been shown that in some cases, a bikaku attack can disable a rinkaku's regeneration.
- #8Bikaku
Keys: Bikaku
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Bikaku "tail-red" typically has a tail-like appearance and is released around the tail-bone/coccyx. It is good for medium-distance attacks and has decent offense, defense, and speed. Thus, they have no notable strengths or weaknesses like the kagune based on other Rc types, meaning the kagune itself is treated as a surprise "trump card." The number of tails a bikaku user can create is usually one, but some can create more. A bikaku has better speed and durability against the brute-force, breakable rinkaku, allowing them to cut off the rinkaku's kagune. However, a bikaku will be overwhelmed by the faster ukaku-user and will lose against the ukaku's long-range attacks.
The balanced characteristics makes the kagune a preferred quinque type for inexperienced investigators.
- #9Quinque
Keys: Quinque
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Quinque is a weapon manufactured from a ghoul's kakuhou used by CCG ghoul investigators. Invented by Adam Gehner and Yoshiu Washuu, the quinque emits electrical signals that stimulate the kakuhou to release and control it. They can be made into some type of melee or ranged weapon, but most retain a few characteristics from the original kagune. In contrast to kagune, quinque cannot change shape nor store or absorb Rc cells other than what was harvested from the ghoul it was made from.
Preceding the quinque, the CCG had been using firearms to combat ghouls and needing a more efficient tool, they began intensive research that resulted in its creation. Made solely to exterminate ghouls, quinque were considered the new generation of technology, promptly and effectively raising the extermination rate. Ghoul investigators transport them in bags or suitcases to store the kakuhou. Some investigators are known to collect quinque and others aspire to master their use. To attain a quinque, an investigator must first confirm their target's Rc type before exterminating them. Afterwards, it is common to name the quinque from the ghoul's name or alias.

Entry settings
ghoul investigator is a specially trained professional employed by the Commission of Counter Ghoul. Most are stationed at the CCG Main Office in the 1st ward but many are occasionally granted authority of investigations in one of Tokyo's other wards. They are tasked with the investigation, pacification, and elimination of ghouls to protect the civilians of Japan from any potential harm caused by ghouls. During their investigations, they analyze crime scenes for traces of ghoul perpetrators, expose their identities, incapacitate or neutralize them.
[Ghouls refer to them as Doves]
Education: [Usually, ghoul investigators were instructed at and graduated from the CCG's Ghoul Investigator Training Academy. When they enter the CCG, they begin their career as Rank 2 investigators.
Rarely, ghoul investigators are employed even though they did not graduate from the Training Academy.
New ghoul investigators are typically partnered with a senior investigator or join a squad to continue their training on the job.]
Equipment: [Since the investigators as humans lack the physique, stamina, and strength to manually handle ghouls in combat, they are compelled to use tactical, man-made weapons. Only ghoul investigators are permitted to be armed with quinques, the most effective weapons against ghouls made from a ghoul's kakuhou. Additionally, they are sometimes armed with firearms loaded with Q bullets ammunition.]
Procedures: [In compliance with the Ghoul Countermeasures Law, ghoul investigators must be constantly vigilant. After a crime scene has been found, ghoul investigators function like modern investigative law enforcement. Using the clues that remain at crime scenes, they can distinguish certain characteristics about their targeted ghoul. They analyze helpful clues, like footprints and clothing fibers, to more reliable ones, such as body fluids, hair, kagune secretions, and kagune markings. The ghoul responsible will be referred to by either a number (e.g, "Number 696") or an alias (e.g, "Rabbit"), and contain their information in numbered files (e.g, 150919-27004). It will contain general information such as the targeted ghoul's habits, areas of predation, activity frequency, and preferred victims. It will also contain more specific information such as possible/confirmed relatives, previous run-ins with the ghoul, and any capabilities or strengths asserted after.
Depending on the potential threat level of the ghoul, if the target is lower ranked, it can be pursued by a set of or a partnership including senior investigators, or a lower-ranked squad, but should the ghoul be deemed as dangerous, only skilled high-ranked investigators are appropriate for continuation, either in a partnership or as a squad. Ghoul investigators may progress their search with interviews and meetings. Following the identification of possible suspects, they conduct surveillance until either their target's status as a ghoul is affirmed or proven false. During these investigations, ghoul investigators are sometimes backed up by the bureau investigators of the ward respective to the investigation.
If a ghoul is confirmed to have fulfilled all requirements, it will be rated as per the ghoul rating outlines. It will then be exterminated at the scene or captured by investigators. Should the latter course of action be taken they may send the ghoul to a ghoul detention center, either Corniculum or transferred to Cochlea to receive questioning and await disposal. If the investigator wishes to obtain a quinque from the ghoul, they must bide their time in battle until the ghoul unleashes their kagune to identify their Rc type or the location of their kakuhou.
Occasionally, ghoul investigators participate in large-scale operations. According to rank and skill, a commander is designated by the Chairman who in turn selects squad leaders. Investigators with partners will join one of these temporary squads (i.e, Squad 3, Owl Suppression Operation) while those in squads remain so (i.e, Quinx Squad, Tsukiyama Family Extermination Operation) unless they must combine with another at the operation Commander's request. They must continue to work in unison under the Commander's supervision until the operation's conclusion. ]
Rank: [The CCG operates similarly to a military or law enforcement agency, with a strict system of rank designating an investigator's abilities and authority. Rank determines an investigator's level of responsibility, access to risky missions and dangerous targets, salary rate, and numerous other aspects of their career. The ranks are divided into two separate categories, designating whether an investigator is considered a senior investigator or a junior still considered in training. While senior investigators may be partnered together as necessary, junior investigators cannot be partnered with other inexperienced investigators.
When in squads, the position of squad leader is held by the investigator of highest rank while the position of vice-squad leader goes to the investigator of second-highest rank. ]
- #12Q bullets
Keys: Q bullets
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Q bullets are bullets with a melted down kagune coating; however, because the material can only be acquired from ghouls, the coating itself is moderately thin. There is a bullet type for each respective kagune. They are adequate when used against a ghoul whose kagune type adversely corresponds with that of the bullets'. While Q bullets are effective in their own right, this effectiveness only extends so far when compared to a quinque.
- #13Ghoul Countermeasures Law
Keys: Ghoul Countermeasures Law, Article 119, Article 88, Article 13
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Ghoul Countermeasures Law provides the legal foundation for the prosecution of ghouls by the Commission of Counter Ghoul.
The Ghoul Countermeasures Law and related legislation contain provisions for the handling of ghouls:
1:Foremost, outlaws all ghouls. 2:Sets requirement standards for ghoul identification. 3:Outlines procedures of a confirmed ghoul. 4:Includes ghoul prosecution conduct. 5:Defines the employee duties of the Commission of Counter Ghoul. 6:Adds the protocols of punishment for human involvement.
Preamble: [Peace is valuable above all else, and members of the Commission of Counter Ghoul shall spare no effort in its preservation.]
Article 12: [A species, against which special precautions should be taken, known as ghouls, are distinct in that it is confirmed that they can produce kakugan and kagune. In relation to the subjects distinguished as ghouls, there are no laws that protect these individuals.]
Article 13: [The ghoul investigators have the duty to make the safety of the citizens their highest priority. It is prohibited to cause more pain to a ghoul than necessary.]
Article 88: [Persons harboring or otherwise preventing the arrest of a ghoul will be severely punished.]
Article 119: [Article 119 declares human involvement in harboring or preventing the arrest of a ghoul an offense punishable by the death penalty.]
- #14Rc cells
Keys: Rc cells
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 100 · 100%
Entry settings
Rc cells are certain cells that exist in both humans and ghouls. They flow like blood but can become as solid as teeth, and could be called "liquid muscles". Typically, a ghoul stocks Rc cells by eating people. Within the body, the Rc cells are concentrated and stored in a kakuhou. The kagune is formed by Rc cells that have been released from a kakuhou and have pierced through the skin.
Rc Factor and Level: [The Rc factor is a measure for the amount of Rc cells in the body of a living being. Ghouls have an "Rc factor" ten times higher than humans. The average healthy human has an Rc factor of about 200 to 500, while a ghoul has an Rc factor of about 1000 to 8000. If, for whatever reason, a normal human receives an excessive amount of Rc cells, such as through experiments, they will start to develop ghoul-like characteristics and eventually not be able to consume human food.]
Rc Cell Vessels: [Rc cells flow through specialized Rc cell vessels. They spread from the kakuhou and permit the body to produce a kagune to the outside. The bodily capabilities can increase as much as the number of vessel increases. Vessels grow and spread throughout the body, stimulated through repeated injury and regeneration. Through this process, half-ghouls and quinx become stronger to the degree they're hurt. It is unclear if normal ghouls can become stronger this way, too. ]
