Toji appears to be a tall and well-built middle-aged man with mid-length straight black hair that reaches to his ears, Toji has green eyes, thin black eyebrows and a sharp scar over the right side of his mouth just on the edge of his lips.

Toji Zenin is a cold, calm, confident type of man he is, Toji likes to enjoy himself and make money using his skills. He appears to enjoy insightful conversation with others as long as it somehow pertains to himself.

For casual attire, Toji wears a simple outfit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants with sandals. While fighting, Toji wears a tight-fitting short sleeve shirt and sports tan baggy training pants with a black belt weaved through the waist, as well as black martial arts slippers. An assassin who's garnered the name "Sorcerer Killer", Toji spent his time gambling between assignments from shady clients. He doesn't question his clients' motives as long as the money is right and generally doesn't do any extra work for free. He's bold and dangerously calculated in his strategies, using his jujutsu knowledge to outwit even the most prophesized sorcerers. This garnered him a reputation large enough to gain attention from the wealthy Time Vessel Association for such an important job that could ensure their future. While he thought the religious members of the organization were crazy, he got along well enough with their middleman to invite him to eat.

As a non-sorcerer raised in the Zenin family who values cursed techniques above all, Toji is just another man who has suffered due to the interests of the sorcerer clans. His evil actions are a result of his dejection towards the jujutsu world as he attempts to spite it. Born without curse energy, Toji eventually left the Zenin family.

Jujutsu Sorcerers are individuals secretly trained and employed by the government in Japan to defend humanity from cursed spirits.

The race of humans capable of using jujutsu are colloquially known as Sorcerers and the jujutsu prefix is often used to signify their alignment to Jujutsu High. Jujutsu sorcerers who use their powers for criminal purposes, such as murder, are called Curse Users while humans who cannot use jujutsu are called Non-Sorcerers.

Jujutsu is often used as an umbrella term that includes all sorcery-related abilities that sorcerers and cursed spirits can access using cursed energy. It is also often used as a prefix for the vast majority of terms within the jujutsu society.

Cursed Spirits are a race of spiritual beings invisible to humans, incarnated from the cursed energy that leaks out of humans over time due to their negative emotions. Cursed spirits haunt and bring harm to humanity and are consequently the primary targets of jujutsu sorcerers and their exorcist work.

Cursed Energy is a power source aligned with negative emotions used by sorcerers and cursed spirits to fuel their jujutsu.

Cursed energy is the primary power source for any sorcerer or cursed spirit.

Cursed tools, cursed objects, and cursed corpses all contain cursed energy as well. It is ordinarily used to fuel cursed techniques, reinforce the body, or activate talismans, but cursed energy has various uses. The properties of cursed energy vary from person to person and its connection to the human brain is shrouded in mystery. In the anime, most cursed energy is blue in color but there are several exceptions.

Cursed Tools are weapons and support items used by jujutsu sorcerers that are purposefully imbued with a curse.

Cursed Techniques are abilities fueled by cursed energy. Different types include innate techniques, barrier techniques, shikigami, new shadow style, and more. Different from cursed objects, cursed tools are weapons infused with cursed energy. Due to this, even non-sorcerers can use them to combat cursed spirits.

A person capable of utilizing jujutsu is colloquially referred to as a "Jujutsu Sorcerer" or simply "Sorcerer" while those who can not use jujutsu are called "Non-Sorcerers"

The history of the Zenin Clan embodies the problematic values that arose from the noble status granted to them as a major clan. The Zenin clan values powerful cursed techniques above all else and rejects their own family members if they don't deem their power acceptable. Even Toji Zenin, as powerful a fighter as he was, found himself rejected by them due to his lack of cursed energy and left the clan, even changing his surname.

Unlike any other known case, Toji possesses no cursed energy. His Heavenly Restriction completely eliminated cursed energy from his body. This makes Toji undetectable to other jujutsu sorcerers, making him capable of moving through barriers undetected. This aided his unpredictability in battle and caused others to underestimate him based purely on cursed energy.

While Toji is technically a non-curse user with no innate talent for jujutsu, he was one of the most elite fighters in the jujutsu world when he was alive. With innate physical prowess far superior to all others in his path, Toji contended with the most dangerous and highly ranked jujutsu practitioners this era had to offer.

Heavenly Restricted Body: The trade-off for Toji's complete lack of cursed energy is his immense physical prowess. While it has been noted that several people have had Heavenly Restrictions that bring their cursed energy to normal levels, Toji is the only case where it has erased the person's cursed energy completely. By eliminating all cursed energy, Toji's body became sharpened to a point where his five senses reached his pinnacle, and he could freely interact with curses.

Toji didn't have much money. When he made a lot of money in one job and he will spend it until it runs out.

He can effectively fight jujutsu sorcerer even without cursed tools. However, he cannot exorcise cursed spirits. As a result, he was rejected by the Zenin family.
