Todd was a former taxi driver who lost his job when self-driving cars became popular in 2021. He then became a laborer, then a bouncer and security guard, only for androids to replace human labor in each of these fields too. For several years he had been working odd jobs, including dealing Red Ice, a powerful stimulant, as part of a small drug trade around the neighborhood to pay for his own addiction. He was arrested several times for drug trafficking and also for violent misdemeanors.
Todd had a wife and a daughter. Unhappy with his behavior and addictions, his wife left and took their daughter with her. Todd claims she entered into a relationship with an accountant.
After his wife left with their daughter, Todd acquired a YK500 android that he called Alice to replace her. He also at some point purchased an AX400 domestic android "Kara" to look after the house and Alice. They live in a modest suburban home on 4203 Harrison Street Corktown, Detroit.
Dwelling on his memories and his hatred for androids, who he blames for his sad predicament, Todd is abusive towards both Alice and Kara. He destroyed Kara multiple times before the start of the game, who was repaired and sent back reset with a memory wipe.
The Opening/A New Home He is first seen in the chapter, A New Home, where he collects Kara after having her repaired at the Android Zone store. He then takes her home and orders her to clean the house. He then watches ice hockey and takes some red ice. If Kara chooses to do the laundry and finds a bag of Red Ice on the shelf, Todd catches her and warns her not to touch his drugs.[1]
Stormy Night At dinner, he throws a fit and accuses Alice of blaming him for his wife leaving. Todd orders Kara to stay still after Alice flees upstairs. The story that can go multiple ways with different endings for Todd:
If Kara obeys - Todd will kill Alice in a fit of rage and then turn his rage onto Kara for letting it happen. If Kara disobeys - She can either try to calm him down or run upstairs to protect Alice. A few endings with this scenario may result in Alice or Kara killing Todd (if Kara takes the gun from Todd's room) while most of the other endings may result in them running away. If Kara disobeys - She will be killed by Todd if she was not able to find and grab the gun, fails to escape, or loses the fight. Then Todd looms over Alice with his belt, likely killing her off-screen.[2] Waiting for Hank... If spared, he will head to DPD Central Station to file a police report about Kara attacking him. If Kara fought and stunned him, he will be seen with a bandage over his forehead. He will be seen leaving the station or at a desk talking to Officer Person. Connor can not interact with him, due to not being relevant to Connor's story.[3]
If dead, a police report in the computer will note his death, discovered by a friend, and the disappeared AX400.[3]
On the Run If alive, he will be seen on television in the Eastern Motel being interviewed by Joss Douglas, who is reporting for Channel 16 news about what happened that night. He claims that Kara assaulted him for no reason. He mentions nothing about Alice missing.[4]
If he was killed Joss Douglas will report that Todd was murdered by a AX400 and police are conducting a search for the android. Watching the news report will lead to a small decrease in public opinion on androids.
Battle for Detroit If he is not killed in Stormy Night, Todd can be seen in Battle for Detroit if Kara, Alice, and optionally Luther make it to the bus depot. He grabs Kara and calls for security, claiming that she stole his little girl. However, if you saw his family photo from Alice's box and understood the chain of events (his wife took their daughter away when she left and he bought an android to replace her), the additional option is unlocked in the second dialogue choice; he can be reasoned with and call off the guard. He breaks down, admits his faults and wishes Kara and Alice good luck. If not stopped by Kara, Alice hugs Todd and forgives him before they leave.
If you act hostile, fail to convince or don't use the unlocked dialogue he will tell the U.S. Army soldiers that they are androids, but Luther will save you if he is with you. If Luther is not there, Kara and Alice will be executed by the soldiers.[5]
Chapters The Opening A New Home Stormy Night Waiting for Hank... (Determinant) On the Run (TV, Determinant) Battle for Detroit (Determinant) Possible deaths Killed By: Kara or Alice If Kara decides to take the handgun out of Todd's room, he will be shot in the chest by Kara during the conflict. If the player fails the QTE to grab the gun, Alice will instead grab the gun and shoot Todd in the back.
Advertisement Appearance Todd is a white middle-aged man who has brown hair that reaches to his neck with blue eyes, a stocky build, and tall at 6 ft.
In The Opening, Todd is seen to be wearing a dark olive jacket. The regular out is a maroon top with a dark green cardigan over it, dark denim jeans with black shoes.
Personality As seen in "Stormy Night", Todd is shown to be extremely hot-headed, short-tempered, aggressive, ferocious, and savage and would resort to violence whenever it is "needed" (due to his wife leaving him with his daughter and his addiction to Red Ice), as shown when he threatens Kara that he will "bust her worse than last time" if she moves, and intends to inflict physical harm towards Alice with his belt. As a Red Ice addict, he is prone to frequently inhale Red Ice for comfort. He also shows obsessiveness and hostility on whoever gets in his way.
Todd is highly emotionally unstable and tends to have extreme flashes of rage over the smallest perceived slights. He loses control frequently, contributing to multiple destructions of Kara before the story begins and possible destruction of Alice and Kara for the last time. Todd tends to believe that he can tell what other people are thinking just by looking at them. He shows signs of having a persecution complex and believes that his misfortunes in life are caused by people intentionally screwing him over. For example, he believes that his wife left him for an accountant without a word, when in fact she had told Todd at least once before their divorce that his anger was scary and that he needs to stop abusing drugs. Todd constantly deflects blame to others for his own mistakes and shameful feelings. However, he appears to be able to regain some composure if Kara reasons with him while he is not under effects of Red Ice.
Todd's extreme mood swings can result in him going from mercilessly beating his daughter in a blind-rage, to then sobbing on her shoulder and repeating to himself that loves her just seconds later. During these episodes, Todd will end up confessing about his faults multiple times, however, these episodes appear to be transitory and do not appear to affect his likelihood of entering another blind rage later on.
Todd had also developed a habit of lying to protect his citizenship and mental health, as shown in lying to a salesperson about Kara's apparent destruction and treating Alice as his real daughter. Todd is possibly combating depression and has been taking an antidepressant called Zolpidem Tartrate (seen on the bottle label), the warnings on this medicine read "Contains Tianeptine" and "Risk of behavioral disorders."
In spite of this, Todd is a weak-willed, miserable, self-loathing and insecure man who lost most, if not all of his self-esteem and confidence from his poor upbringing and has devolved into a spiteful misanthrope selfishly willing to harm others and his own health for no apparent reason beyond a lack of self-control. He also fails to make attempts to improve himself or doesn’t bother to do it at all, ironically making himself sink much lower than what he used to be. If reasoned with by Kara if she meets him again, Todd seemingly had a change of heart, showing regret over driving his family away and acting unpleasant to Alice while he wanted to have his family back to prove that he could be a good father. Although Todd knows his family won't come back to him, he wishes Kara, Alice, and Luther good luck on their journey to Canada.
Advertisement Killed Victims This list shows the victims Todd has killed:
Alice (Possibly Accidental, Determinant) Kara (Determinant) Notes Todd is one of the single parents in the game, the others being Rose Chapman, Carl Manfred and Caroline Phillips (determinant). Todd is one of four confirmed Red Ice users in the game, the others being Carlos Ortiz, Leo Manfred, and Zlatko Andronikov. Todd's phone call in A New Home suggests that he acquires things for people and meets them at cryptic locations. The details of this phone call, as well as the fact that Todd is "unemployed," suggest that he runs an illicit business, likely as a drug dealer. Todd also takes antidepressants, which, when examined by Kara, state behavioral issues as one of the side effects, possibly the reason or one of the reasons for Todd’s frequent mood swings. Todd is a fan of the Detroit Crimson Sharks hockey team. A large majority of the players choose to kill Todd. Considering his backstory, this seems more of a mercy-killing to put the man out of his misery. Todd is going through financial troubles based on bills lying in his room. He has failed to pay utilities and owes money to Harman Bank. Todd continues David Cage's trend of having neglectful and abusive fathers in his games, the others being the Origami Killer's father in Heavy Rain and Jodie's adoptive father, Philip Holmes, in Beyond: Two Souls. Todd has the same weight, height, hair color, hair model, and birthday (September 21) as Zlatko Andronikov. Todd also has the same personality and appearance as Earl from Beyond: Two Souls in the chapter Like Other Girls. Moreover, both can be killed by getting shot. They also both share the same actor, Dominic Gould. According to concept artist, Mikael Leger, Todd's ex-wife was going to feature in the game.[6] Advertisement Quotes "Life's funny... I lost my job cause of androids... then when I need somebody to take care of this goddamn house, what do I do? I go out and hire a fucking android...What a joke! Course, androids are so fucking wonderful... They never fail, they're never tired, never sad... They're so fucking perfect, they ruined my fucking life..." Todd thinking out loud while Kara serves dinner (only if Kara doesn't move too much).

"You want? What do you mean you want? What are ya gonna do? You gonna shoot me, is that it? You gonna shoot a human? You seem to have a problem, I think we need to fix that." Todd threatening Kara if she threatens him with the gun before attacking her.
"Alice, Honey... Alice... Look... Look, Daddy's wounded. Be a good little girl... Come... Come... Come help, Daddy..." Todd to Alice after being wounded while fighting Kara.
"Say goodbye tin can... And this time you won't be coming back!" Todd about to kill Kara, before shot by Alice, also his last words.
"It's all over now... Daddy isn't angry anymore... Daddy loves you. You know daddy loves you... This is your fault. This is all your fault. None of this woulda happened if it weren't for you. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!" Todd to Kara if the player failed save Alice before getting beaten by Todd in Stormy Night.
"-I just wanted to prove to myself that I was a good father... She was wrong... But I fucked it all up all over again. She was right in the end... I didn't deserve them... I miss my little girl... You don't know how much I miss my little girl." Todd confessing his faults and feelings about his family in Battle for Detroit

User avatar SuperPinoyBall628 · 2024-10-10 I just imagine if there was a Todd's POV from his chapters in Detroit Become Human
(Edited by SuperPinoyBall628) User avatar Sekcja2025 · 2024-03-03 How the hell someone like Todd had enough money to buy himself not one but 2 androids wtf? Just look how his house looks like inside. Weird.
Also Connor can't even interact with him then how he's antagonist in Connor's story?
Theaziva · 2023-05-27 How is he a minor antagonist of Connor's story? That just doesn't make sense to me.
Sigurjone96 · 2023-06-14 Also why does the game and the wikis want us to sympathize so much with Todd like he's such "a good, honorable and a misunderstood person"? Dude is a daytime drunken lazy sore loser drug dealing piece of shit. Got off easy by having one bullet in his heart. I'm actually frustrated that Kara's story started out with having to deal with this narcissistic incompetent bully maniac but I'm very glad you get to fight back against him. People who are that emotionally unstable and mentally disturbed I can't deal with. He reminded me a lot of Scott and Blake from Heavy Rain same type of abusers. Zlatko & Perkins are in the Pure Evil category yet I had a lot nicer time dealing with them than psychopath Todd. It feels like some girl or a guy wrote this with similar insecurities, weaknesses and intolerances to Todd. Otherwise I can't fathom this. They are most likely in financial debt as well haven't paid their bills. I mean technically Zlatko is a monster too he's very similar to Todd but it seemed his life went to crap (spent a lot of time in jail contrast to Todd) and was miserable before he lost faith in himself. People who sympathize, excuse and support Todd's ongoing madness and insanity are just as bad as him. Feel he has no redeeming qualities or factors and he's not "a family man" at all as the title portrays him as.
Sometimes I don't get the internet or the wikis in general. I don't care what reasons are for how Todd's behavioral disorders he is still a highly dangerous, hypocritical, violent, chaotic, lunatic, asshole criminal with a severe mental disability and impairment. Got autism, ADHD and schizophrenia mixed with drugs (both anti-depressants and red ice which he inhales into his already dysfunctional being). Amanda's constant manipulation and deceitfulness is also worthy of making it into Pure Evil. Basically this wiki is saying "Todd is a domestic abuser, has drug possession and can murder both Alice & Kara brutally by force in the beginning but other than that he's good, nice, caring and cool because he "forgives Kara & Alice" on some bus terminal later on for his own destructive actions." Like what?? Are they on crack? Who controls these sites? If the wife left with his kid I'm sure there's a good explanation for it it's because of him and his crazy impulses and lack of self-control and self-esteem as shown in this game. He uses threats, brutality, extortion and intimidation to get what he wants. Complete monster and evil. Don't feel sorry for him at all no matter what his backstory is.
User avatar Classified111 · 2022-09-30 He's a snitch, I hate him so much. Dang snitch. Can't trust a rat. I will kill him on all of my future playthroughs.

User avatar Yeettey · 2021-03-13 I think Todd could get better but he doesn’t have any help, you can’t excuse what he did but if he had help to stop doing drugs and get over his depression I think he could be a good person, you get to see a bit of him being a good person in Battle for Detroit, I feel bad for him because his depression caused him to become way worse than he was before, might be an unpopular opinion but it’s mine
A Fandom user · 2021-02-25 How can a guy who’s been unemployed for years afford not one, but two state of the art androids? AND afford to have them repaired? It seems weird to me that he would buy Kara to look after Alice and the house when he obviously doesn’t really care about either. If you ask me, he bought her to replace his wife, essentially.
A Fandom user · 2021-03-12 Kara's a second-hand AX400, which go for $899 new, so he could have gotten her for, let's say 400 bucks. Not actually all that much. Alice, on the other hand, is a YK500 - a child android's price is listed as $7500, but it's uncertain if this is a YK500's price or an advanced model. However, there is also evidence that child models tend to get disposed of frequently when their human owners get bored of having them around. Add to that that Todd doesn't claim Alice in his report to the police, nor is it mentioned that he had a YK500 registered to him. My guess is that he obtained Alice from a sketchy second-hand dealer, and she's not properly registered to him, while Kara's serial number is registered to Todd.

User avatar Leavegirl · 2019-12-09 I just realize a parallel between Todd and Hank.
Both are fathers who lost their children
Both hate androids and blame them for their lost of their children (Hank thinks that Androids are responsible for his son's death at first, Todd blames androids for losing his jobs and family)
Both use addictive substance to cope. ( Hank use alcohol, Todd use Red Ice)
Both have anger issues (Hank is not as violence as Todd though)
The difference is that Hank is able to recover and change his ways, meanwhile Todd gets worse.
A Fandom user · 2019-11-01 why are so many characters in the game born in september?
A Fandom user · 2020-04-21 Because a lot of people are born in september... September is 9 months away from January and january is after new years celebration where people meet and get super drunk and presumably hook up without using condom.
If you're born in September there's a good chance you're a happy accident.
First off, just as a cool little BTS bit of info, I wanted to note for anyone who doesn’t know this, the actor for Todd actually does a lot of stand in for Hank in terms of body acting when they couldn’t get Clancy in. Just thought that’s a cool fact people may not have known to put to preface this post. Connor’s actor (Bryan Dechart) mentions this in his DBH playthroughs.
So Todd’s a piece of shit. I wanted to talk about how I think he’s actually one of the best written characters though, who I actually think had a nice character arc and if any of you agree. This post is very spoilery, like multiple playthrough spoilery. I’m assuming if you made it this far you’ve played this game a sh*t ton too, but just in case you haven’t, read no further.
Ok, that’s outta the way. I feel like Todd represents the dark side of humanity that anyone could ultimately end up in. He loses everything, then orders a stand in Android family to replace the family he lost. Alice to imitate his daughter, and Kara (I assume) to be his faux Wife. He has constructed a fake little family to try and ignore the fact he has lost everything. Yet, he is still clouded by his abusive and dark persona. He lashes out at Alice constantly because, even in her silent and innocent state, he sees her as a “judge”. She represents the “after”daughter. A constant reminder that he lost his family and that his wife left for someone else. He is alone, constantly reminded by his misery by the same Androids he probably bought in attempt to keep his demons at bay. He falls pray to drugs, getting defensive and downright primal if Kara prys too much and finds his stash. DBH honestly creates a pretty demonic little slice of hell as far as Todd’s life is concerned.
Then, and I don’t know if all of you have seen this bit, he shows up at the end. Now I don’t forgive him at all personally, and that’s not what I mean with this post, but he has a pseudo-redemptive scene where he lets Kara and Alice be Free in Canada. He again meets his “second” attempt at family, and instead of being his abusive self, apologises to Alice and gives them a chance at being free of him, and now also the world.
To me he is one of the best written characters in the game. He makes you truly despise him but when you actually look at his character he is a tragedy, and in a way the animus of despair that could befall any of us.
I just wanted to know how you all felt about the character, if you think he was well written too, and if you agree with me that he is like a holistic slice into humanity’s darkside. Having been destroyed multiple times before the game even begins, Kara was repaired, but lost her memory. She returns to Todd, who strictly tells Kara to clean the house, already having a seemingly angry personality. While she's washing the dishes, Todd will suddenly yell at Kara while watching an ice hockey game to bring him a beer. He starts smoking a bunch of red ice, and if the player makes it so that Kara finds Todd's red ice, he will viciously grab her by the throat and tell her not to "touch his stuff".
Todd's first possible death happens in chapter two, "Stormy Night". Todd will throw a sudden temper tantrum on Alice, and tell her that everything is her fault. It's possible to leave Todd alive, and cause him to apologize, but he will still try to stop Kara and Alice from escaping. However, it is possible to kill Todd in this chapter, as Kara finds a gun in one of Todd's drawers, which she may use in self-defense. The opposite can happen as well; Todd can kill both Alice or Kara depending on the player's choices, although this is extremely uncommon among players.
If Todd does not die, he has multiple cameos throughout the game. One such example is when he shows up in Connor's story, during the chapter "Waiting for Hank...", where he tells the police station about Kara attacking him, wanting to get her arrested. Connor himself cannot actually interact with Todd.
If Kara and Alice stay in a motel and leave Todd alive, he reappears in "On the Run", where he is interviewed on a television news channel. He tells them that Kara attacked him "for no reason" and about Alice disappearing, overall stating that he dislikes how the evolution of androids is going.
If Todd isn't killed in "Stormy Night", he makes one last (optional) appearance in the final chapter "Battle for Detroit" where Kara and Alice run into him at the bus terminal. If Kara doesn't find the pictures of Todd's old family (or simply not mention them), Todd will tell the U.S. soldiers that Kara is an android, which will cause them to execute her. If Luther is still alive, he will protect Kara and Alice from the soldiers. However, if Kara does find the pictures of Todd and his family in "Stormy Night", she will tell him about his backstory, which will make him resentful, and he will hug and apologize to Alice. If this happens, Todd will leave the androids alone and wish them good luck.
