Individuals with masks bestowed onto them by the Forest Master can transform into the animal their mask is. The masks are usually made of papier-mâché and fur. Individuals with masks must provide the Forest Master with food as a way of paying off their ‘debt’ and hide their monstrous forms. They also live with the Forest Master in the woods, becoming missing individuals. The village is also highly religious in Christianity. No one knows about the Forest Master or the masks besides the owners of the masks and some village elders. The candy the Forest Master offers looks and tastes like regular pieces of candy, he also transforms himself to make people let their guard down as he gives them the ‘candy’. Once someone possesses a mask and wears it, they have the ability to transform into that animal or a grotesque version of that creature, the Forest Master can only control individuals if they’re wearing the masks. Ivan Fuodorav is 18 years old and is a missing individual, he’s also the owner of the Owl mask. A common lullaby sang by the elders and children of the village is “One— two, fly in, owl. Three—four—five, time to play. Six oh six, the wolf's fur stands on end. Seven, seven, I'll eat you, I'll eat you. Eight—eight, we kick the ground. For the Fox and for the Bear, Bunny — tasty meals prepare!” The lyrics in Russian, “Раз, два — прилети сова! Три, четыре, пять — время поиграть! Шесть да шесть — дыбом волчья шерсть!
