To escape this painful reminder, he turns to other children, whom he idealizes as symbols of redemption and second chances. By rescuing them, he convinces himself he is restoring his role as a father and rewriting the family story that was shattered, creating an illusion of control and healing. In truth, these adoptions are less about love for the children themselves and more about his desperate attempt to avoid facing his loss and guilt.
