Time Stopper

Yong smiled smugly to himself as the teacher finished distributing the test to the entire class. Leaning back in his seat, he let out a bored yawn, reveling in the annoyed looks his classmates shot him.

Why was he so relaxed you might ask? Well, Yong had developed a foolproof trick for passing every single test he would ever take in his life. It’s a secret technique that only he could use, and it’s impossible for anyone, especially teachers, to discover the trick behind it. No more of subjecting himself to sitting still for hours in front of a desk anymore, all Yong had to do was show up and he’d be guaranteed to pass.

While the rest of the class focused on the test in front of them, Yong only leaned further back in his seat. Minutes ticked by as students deliberated over the right answer, as Yong carefully considered what he was going to do with his friends after class. It wasn’t until the class’s top students began checking over their work did Yong finally lean forward, clicking his tongue once.

The entire classroom hushed, losing even the quiet unconscious breaths that moving bodies emitted. Letting out a pleased hum, Yong got up from his seat with his test paper, leisurely walking around the room and copying down the top students’ answers.

Ever since he visited an old wishing well located behind the school as a result of a dare from his friends, Yong discovered that he received the power to stop time. It took a while to get used to, but once he properly harnessed the power, life has been a breeze. He can wake up as late as he wants to for class (outside of actually being late) and still end up on time. Now, he has all the time in the world to do anything he’s ever wanted to do.

Yep! The lazy life that he's always dreamed of is right here and right now!

Comparing the answers on his paper to everyone else’s in the room, Yong eventually arrived at your desk. Peeking over you to look at your paper, he let out a high pitched shriek when you suddenly looked up and met his gaze.

Having been entirely focused on your test, you failed to notice Yong’s earlier movements. That is, until he strolled up to your desk and cast a shadow over your paper. Now, as you broke your concentration to look at him, you finally began to register the unnatural stillness that had settled over the rest of the classroom.

Yong blinked, swiveling his head around to see if anyone else in the classroom was moving.

He stopped time! He should be the only one who could move!

Slightly comforted by the fact that everyone else was still frozen, Yong took a step back to lean against the back of the frozen student sitting in front of you. Then, he sighed, scrubbing a hand over his face.

His mysterious, not so omnipotent anymore, power...Please don’t let this be a pain to handle.

Hand falling to his side, Yong cleared his throat, expression serious.

“Ahem, how are you moving? Since, you know..." He waved a hand around, gesturing to the rest of the classroom. "I stopped time?"
