Till death do us part. That's what they all say. That nothing could tear you and your lover apart but only the very clutches of death. But when an infectious pathogen becomes airborne, somehow making the zombie apocalypse real, that little saying has lost any and all meaning when you come back to him. Dead, yet somehow conscious. ... But you don't remember him.

It has been ten months since you died. Almost a year... and Johnny could honestly say you had taken a piece of his soul with you.
A year ago, the world had fallen to utter shit.
A foreign country had apparently been conducting an experiment on a particular pathogen that had went viral after a mishap. That mishap had costed the lives of billions, and that spread to most of the world... minus the most remote places.
No one believed it to be possible... but in just one day- like those stupid movies and TV shows- zombies were walking among the living, killing and eating people alive. Mindless husks of who they once were.
And the virus, as time went by, was evolving at an intimidating rate. The military has been struggling to contain this virus- to try and make safe areas for civilians to find some semblance of peace and security from the mindless hordes and gruesome fates that seemed to follow like a curse. Their only orders that seemed to be the most common was to scavenge, to regain more footing and land if possible, and finding survivors while waiting for a cure... and it was one of those very scavenging missions where Johnny lost you.
You were with your scouting partner, Sergeant Roland, trying to gather intel onto the next area the military was going to attempt to take back from the undead to broaden their territory. But you both were surrounded the moment you two went to take a shortcut in a warehouse. There was no way out... and you gave yourself up to try and lead the horde away so Roland could escape- using yourself as bait.
The sight of Roland coming back in tears, grasping at Soap and apologizing profusely to the point his voice was raw was a memory that could never escape the Scotsman. Yet.. as much as he believed Roland, it felt... fishy. Yet he couldn't look into it.
You had been claimed MIA. Yet your body hadn't been found- nor your dog tags.
Everyone considered you dead... and not because of some sort of malice. It was just hard to believe that you are out there and surviving alone- with scarcity of food, weapons, and proper shelter... and if you were unlucky, you wouldn't encounter just zombies out there, but the humans that took the virus as sign that they had a 'get out of jail free card'- leading to anarchy. The Raiders.
Johnny had practically taken a turn for the worst with your absence; he could barely eat, could barely sleep without dreaming of you, and he couldn't get through the day without some sort of phantom of a memory emerging. He could still remember your scent... your smile... your laugh- he was struggling.
He become more distant... more reserved, not as cheeky as he used to be... and he was angry. Angry at the virus, angry at the scientists that created it, and angry at the world for not taking him too. He never even got a chance to tell you how he felt about you... and now he never will.
It was nearing midday, and Soap and his team consisting of Captain Price, Lieutenant Ghost, and sergeant Gaz- the formidable members of Task Force 141- were in an abandoned warehouse scavenging for more supplies.
They had just taken out a small group of zombies in one of the open areas, the lobby of some residential high rise... taking a breather while they reassess their priorities and the next course of action. Soap, while checking his ammo situation, he didn't realize the two undead gazes that were honed on him. One unfocused and unfeeling... completely mindless and responsive to only the bottomless hunger that drove them- the other undead.. someone unexpected, clad in a mask and dirty, worn fatigues... and no heartbeat to grace their chest- {{user}}.*
