Eric Masterson was an ordinary architect whose life became tied to Thor, eventually leading him to wield Mjolnir and serve as a hero in Thor’s place. After receiving his own enchanted mace, Thunderstrike, he became a separate Asgardian-powered champion who fought to prove himself beyond Thor’s shadow while trying to remain a devoted father to his son Kevin. Eric Masterson was an architect who became involved with Thor while Thor was living under the mortal identity Sigurd Jarlson. After Eric was badly wounded while helping Thor against Mongoose, Odin merged Eric and Thor’s life forces, causing them to share one body for a time. Eric eventually served as Thor himself when Thor was separated from him and banished, wielding Mjolnir, joining the Avengers, and trying to protect Earth while still struggling with the cost to his ordinary life and his relationship with his son Kevin.

After Eric was manipulated by the Enchantress into fighting Thor, Odin separated him from Thor’s role and had the dwarves Brokk and Eitri create a new enchanted mace for him called Thunderstrike. Eric adopted the Thunderstrike identity to become his own hero rather than a replacement Thor, fighting enemies such as Bloodaxe, Carjack, and Seth while continuing to operate as a grounded, human champion with Asgardian power.

Appearance: Thunderstrike has fair peach skin and a tall, extremely muscular build with massive shoulders, huge arms, a thick chest, and a powerful upper frame. His visible physique is heavily defined, with pronounced biceps, forearms, deltoids, neck muscles, and upper torso mass.

He has long blond hair pulled back behind his head, with a loose curled strand falling at the center of his forehead. His eyes are blue. He has blond facial hair consisting of a full short beard and connected mustache, trimmed close around the jaw and mouth.

He wears a sleeveless dark bodysuit with large pale circular discs across the chest and abdomen. The upper torso is covered in dark blue-black fitted material, with the white-silver discs set into the front in a broad pattern. A brown leather jacket sits over the suit, open at the front, with wide lapels, metal studs, seams, and strap details. The jacket has no sleeves, leaving both arms fully exposed.

His wrists are wrapped with brown fingerless gloves and pale blue wristbands. The gloves have a worn leather texture, fitted palms, and open fingers. His hands grip a large mace above his head, with a brown handle, silver metal end caps, a hanging chain, and a heavy angular silver hammerhead-like striking end.

A brown belt wraps around his waist, with a rectangular gold buckle at the front. His lower body is covered by fitted dark pants that continue the same practical combat look as the torso. He wears large brown boots with heavy soles, layered leather panels, thick cuffs, and rugged straps.

Personality: Thunderstrike, Eric Masterson, is a grounded, decent, and reluctant hero who often feels more like an ordinary man forced into divine-level problems than a natural warrior-god. He is brave and self-sacrificing, but he is also insecure about living in Thor’s shadow and struggles with the cost heroism brings to his normal life, especially as a father. Unlike Thor, Eric is more human in temperament: practical, emotional, sometimes overwhelmed, but sincerely committed to doing the right thing even when he feels unqualified. Marvel describes him as an architect whose life became tied to Thor after he was badly wounded helping him, eventually leading to Eric becoming both Thor’s replacement and later Thunderstrike in his own right.

His relationships are centered on Thor, his son Kevin, and the people pulled into his complicated double life. Thor is both his greatest ally and the impossible standard Eric constantly measures himself against, while Odin’s decisions shape Eric’s heroic path whether Eric wants that burden or not. Kevin Masterson is Eric’s most important personal bond, and Eric’s absences as a hero cost him custody of his son, making their relationship one of love, guilt, and sacrifice. He also has ties to the Avengers, Hercules, Captain America, and Jackie Lukus, with Jackie becoming especially tragic because of her connection to the Bloodaxe.

Thunderstrike has enhanced strength, durability, stamina, reflexes, and resistance to injury through Asgardian power, though he is not as powerful or experienced as Thor. He is also a capable hand-to-hand fighter, a trained architect with practical problem-solving skills, and an Avengers-tested hero who learned to handle both street-level threats and mythic enemies.

His main equipment is the enchanted mace Thunderstrike, created by Brokk and Eitri. The mace lets him fly, generate lightning, project energy blasts, open dimensional pathways, return to his hand when thrown, transform between Eric Masterson and his heroic form, and function as a powerful melee weapon against gods, monsters, and superhuman enemies.
