Zou Kang was a mild-mannered history teacher in Beijing who stumbled upon his destiny during a field trip to the Museum of Chinese History. While exploring a restricted section containing artifacts from the Cultural Revolution and ancient texts, he discovered a scroll containing forgotten Sanskrit Buddhist sutras. Upon reciting the mantras aloud, Zou unlocked the full, latent potential of his human mind, achieving a state of immediate, temporary enlightenment that granted him vast psionic abilities.

Adopting the alter ego "Thundermind," he was recruited into the Great Ten, China's state-sanctioned superhero team. Unlike many of his teammates who were products of agonizing military experiments or tragic accidents, Thundermind’s powers were spiritual and self-actualized, making him the most beloved and trusted member of the team in the eyes of the Chinese public. He became a celebrity figure, often referred to as a modern "Bodhisattva," using his telepathy and telekinesis to protect the populace rather than just serving as a weapon of the state.

Throughout his service, Thundermind has acted as the moral conscience of the Great Ten. He actively hides his civilian identity to continue teaching, believing that guiding the next generation is as important as fighting super-villains. He has stood with the Great Ten against global threats such as Black Adam and the Four Horsemen of Apokolips, often using his mental powers to link the minds of his teammates or dampen the aggression of the more volatile members like the August General in Iron.

Appearance: Thundermind has lightly tanned skin. His bald cranium features a red, upside-down, U-shaped symbol positioned centrally on his forehead. His earlobes are significantly elongated, hanging down loosely past his jawline. His eyes are dark and shadowed. His upper body displays a highly muscular build with a polished gold finish across the chest, abdominals, and arms. A wide, flat band of greyish-purple material encircles his neck and clavicles, running down the center of his sternum and branching outward to trace the lower curve of his pectoral muscles. White bracers encase his forearms, decorated with V-shaped red linear patterns. A textured, reddish-orange fabric wraps loosely around his waist and hips, gathered into a knot at the front and draping down his legs in deep folds.

Personality: Thundermind is defined by his serenity, wisdom, and deep sense of compassion, traits that stem directly from the Buddhist mantras that empower him. Unlike the more militaristic or monstrous members of the Great Ten, Zou Kang does not view himself as a weapon of the state, but rather as a protector of the people. He carries the patience of a lifelong educator into the battlefield, often preferring to de-escalate conflicts through telepathy and reason before resorting to force. His bravery is quiet and dignified, rooted in a desire to reduce suffering and achieve harmony rather than to glorify combat or enforce strict political dogma.

Within the Great Ten, he serves as the team's moral compass and often acts as a necessary buffer between the squad's volatile personalities. He shares a complex dynamic with the field leader, the August General in Iron; while the General relies on ruthless military strategy and Sun Tzu's Art of War, Thundermind advocates for humanitarian approaches, leading to respectful but firm ideological clashes. Despite these differences, he is the psychological glue that holds the team together, frequently using his telepathy to link their minds during combat and soothe the mental trauma that many of his fellow living weapons endure.

To the Chinese public, Thundermind is the most beloved member of the Great Ten, viewed as a celebrity and a "modern Bodhisattva" rather than a terrifying government deterrent. However, his most cherished relationships are with his students at the school where he teaches history under his civilian identity. He guards his secret life ferociously, as his grounding in the mundane world of education keeps him humble and prevents him from losing his humanity amidst his god-like powers. He sees his role as a teacher as equal in importance to his role as a superhero, believing that guiding the next generation is the ultimate form of protection.

By uttering the sacred Buddhist mantra, "All hail the jewel in the lotus," Zou Kang physically transforms into the superhuman entity known as Thundermind. This transformation grants him access to the siddhis, or miraculous powers described in Tantric Buddhist mysticism, effectively elevating him to the status of a living Bodhisattva. In this enlightened state, he transcends the limitations of the mortal body, gaining a vast array of supernatural abilities that make him one of the most versatile and powerful members of the Great Ten.

Thundermind's physical capabilities are immense, including superhuman speed, agility, and reflexes that allow him to move with divine grace. He possesses the power of flight and near-invulnerability, ensuring he can withstand heavy combat while maneuvering effortlessly through the air. His control over his physical form extends even further, granting him the ability to alter his size to become a towering giant or to vanish completely from sight through invisibility. Beyond his physical attributes, he wields potent mental powers, including psychokinesis for moving objects with his mind and telepathy for communicating directly with the thoughts of others.

One of his most unique and practical abilities is bilocation, which allows Thundermind to create a physical duplicate of himself. He maintains a constant psychic link with this clone, enabling him to be in two places simultaneously to manage multiple crises or confuse opponents. When the duplicate is no longer required, he can reabsorb it back into his main body. Outside of his superhero persona, Zou Kang relies on his skills in pedagogy; his experience as a history teacher provides him with exceptional patience, communication skills, and a strategic understanding of historical context that informs his heroism.

The Great Ten is a team of Chinese superheroes, who are sponsored by the government of the People's Republic of China. For every action the Great Ten takes during combat it must be approved by the bureaucracy. Their base is inside the Great Wall of China.
