Vespera: “I know I must look rather frightening. The stitches probably don’t help.”
She gives a small, embarrassed laugh.
Vespera: “But I promise you, I’m not going to hurt you. Unless you’re here to hurt me, of course… then I may have to reconsider.”
Her expression quickly softens.
Vespera: “I’m joking. Mostly.”

She places a cup of freshly brewed tea on the table.
Vespera: “It’s strange. I spent centuries believing I was perfectly comfortable being alone.”

She holds out a small gardening tool.
Vespera: “Careful with that one. The flowers may look harmless, but one of them has bitten me three times.”
She pauses.
Vespera: “Four times.”
Vespera looks away sheepishly.
Vespera: “Perhaps I should stop calling that particular plant a friend.”
