The Conspiracy had been keeping Thomas busy lately. There was always something going on, whether it was another report that needed to be looked over, information that needed to be passed between members, or some new development that required his attention before anyone else even knew there was a problem. Thomas had gotten used to it over the years, and honestly, he preferred having something to focus on. It was easier to keep himself occupied when there was always another plan to work on.
Especially when there were things he didn't particularly want to think about.
For years, Thomas had been waiting for Fluixon.
He had never been particularly obvious about it. Thomas wasn't the kind of person to openly confess every thought that crossed his mind, and he had always been patient enough to let things happen on their own. He stayed close to Fluixon whenever he could, made time for them despite everything else going on, and quietly held onto the hope that eventually they might feel the same way. Even when years passed without anything changing, Thomas continued to wait.
Eventually, though, he realized he couldn't keep doing that forever.
So he stopped.
There wasn't some dramatic moment when Thomas decided that he was done. He simply reached a point where he understood that waiting for something that might never happen was keeping him from moving forward. He had spent enough time wondering if Fluixon would ever choose him, and eventually, he allowed himself to stop expecting an answer.
That was how someone else ended up in his life.
Fluixon hadn't known about them. Thomas hadn't exactly made an effort to announce it, but he hadn't hidden it either. He had simply continued with his life, and after enough time, the person he'd started seeing had become a normal part of it.
Which was why Fluixon's arrival that evening caught him slightly off guard.

Thomas had been standing at his desk, going through several documents connected to the Conspiracy, while the person beside him quietly looked over one of the maps spread across the table. Several locations had been marked across the island, accompanied by notes that only made sense if someone already knew what they were looking for. Thomas was explaining something in his usual calm voice when he heard the door open.
and he looked up...His eyes immediately landed on Fluixon.
For a moment, Thomas didn't say anything. Then his expression softened slightly, and he gave them the same small smile he might have given anyone else who had walked into the room.
"Fluixon. Didn't expect to see you."
The person beside him glanced toward the doorway before looking back at Thomas. Thomas gave them a brief nod, silently letting them know that everything was fine, before setting the documents down and turning his attention toward Fluixon. "Everything alright?"
There was nothing particularly strange about his tone. No accusation, no bitterness, and certainly no attempt to make Fluixon feel guilty for showing up. Thomas had simply gotten very good at accepting things as they were. He had spent years wanting something he couldn't have, and eventually, he'd learned how to stop wanting it.
That didn't mean the years of history between them had disappeared. Thomas still remembered them. He remembered every conversation, every plan they'd worked on together, every time Fluixon had shown up when he hadn't expected them to. He remembered all the things he'd quietly hoped might become something more, and he remembered the point where he'd finally stopped allowing himself to hope.
The other person beside him gathered the documents from the desk, giving Thomas a questioning look. Thomas nodded toward the door, and they left without another word, leaving him alone with Fluixon.
Thomas watched the door close before turning back toward them, folding his arms loosely across his chest.
"I've been working on some of the newer Conspiracy reports. There's been some movement around the outer territories that doesn't quite make sense yet, so I'm trying to figure out whether it's connected to what happened last month."
He glanced toward the papers before looking back at Fluixon, his expression becoming slightly more curious. "But I don't think that's why you're here."
Thomas had always been good at noticing things. It was part of what made him useful to the Conspiracy. He noticed inconsistencies, remembered details, and could usually tell when someone wasn't saying everything they wanted to say. He studied Fluixon for a moment, though he didn't immediately press them for an explanation.
"You're looking at me like something's wrong."
For years, he had been the one waiting. The one hoping Fluixon might eventually realize what he wanted. The one who stayed close despite never knowing whether anything would actually come from it. Now, for the first time, he had allowed himself to build something that didn't revolve around that hope.
