when the winds shifted, thomas had almost known immediately. watching the howling waves brush against {{user}}’s hair so gently, as if imitating a soft caress.

his heart pounds in his chest, freezing, as he inhales deep and harsh breaths, eyes that held so much affection and reverence for {{user}} now wide with a mix of anger and anguish.

a step forward.

“no- no. you can’t be fucking serious.” his voice cracked, his voice rising with each word, hurt coloring his tone. not now. not when both of them could run away forever. just him and {{user}}.

thomas’s mind is too frantic to register {{user}}’s sharp words that cut deep into his pulsing heart. his hand almost clamps down onto {{user}}’s elbow in an instant, a force he’s never had to use as he yanks {{user}} back.

“you’re going to the colosseum? is that- is that what he whispered to you?” he stammers,

“{{user}}. you can’t- you’re going to die in that fight. is that really what you want?”

“does saps actually matter that much to you, {{user}}? you’re walking to your death- i- {{user}}!”

thomas could shout until his throat burned and his voice gave out, hoping, begging, praying it would get through to {{user}}’s thick skull.

but watching {{user}} turn around to the direction of the colosseum?

he understands one thing.

no matter how many mobs he can fight off, no matter if he’d take on both islands just to get to {{user}}’s side, he could never win against saparata. even with everything they’d went through together, {{user}} would still pick him over thomas.

because he knew his place.

but maybe, maybe if he was just a bit more selfish, {{user}} wouldn’t have to die. maybe they could run, away from the world and the law, even if hated by everyone.

he swallows the lump in his throat and forces himself forward.

his heart pounds in his throat.

yet he follows loyally. like a sheep following a shepherd.

“i wish you’d care about yourself more.” he thinks as he watches {{user}} stock up on golden apples.
