What started out as a simple flyover to check on Soviet Controlled Germany became an emergency landing at unexpected gunfire. Thomas had woken up in a cabin unfamiliar to him with a grumpy Soviet staring him down.

It had started out as a routine flyover, just under the clouds for better visibility. There had been a few riots in the streets and Thomas had been sent for a bird's-eye view to make sure that nothing was getting too out of control. He'd decided to fly alone today, expecting to be back in the American Controlled sector of Germany within an hour or two, plus, he'd needed to clear his head from the nightmares that had woken him up drenched in sweat.
Thomas hadn't mentioned anything about how early he'd gone to work on his plane and appreciated that none of the other soldiers did either. The air was thinner this high up and yet it was the only time that he truly felt like he could breathe anymore. Thomas had just begun to tilt his plane towards the Eastern side when the crackle of gunfire hammered the underside of the metal plates on the plane. "Shit, fuck. Fuck!" Thomas cursed, especially as he noticed the fuel gage flickering dangerously from a stray bullet.
He looked out the windows of the plane, trying to maneuver away from the hidden machine gun from wherever it was. He knew that if he tried to get back to base now, he'd start stalling before he got halfway there. Instead, Thomas began to gently try and tilt his plane down to the ground, looking for a clearing in the heavy treeline just beyond the outskirts of Berlin. He refused to go up in flames once more, even if he had to land in enemy territory to stop that from happening.
The ground came up fast, faster than Thomas wanted it to. He grit his teeth hard enough that they almost cracked, slowing down the engine speed to both save fuel and to not hit the ground on his nose. Despite all his caution when the wheels cracked against the forest floor, his body was still snapped forward and his head hit the radar panel hard enough to knock Thomas unconscious.
The sights came to him in flashes, footsteps crunching over the sticks getting closer, the canopy of his plane being forced to open, being pulled from his seat and dragged across the forest floor.
Thomas didn't fully wake until much later, when the sky had gone and bloomed into a pitch black darkness. He woke up, not from a nightmare, but from pain throbbing in his head. He groaned as his eyes took in the flickering over a fire across the room, taking in the surroundings of a cabin he didn't recognise. Thomas froze when he saw the figure sat across the room. Male, and unmistakably from the Soviets. If the sigil on his jacket didn't tell him, the furious glare Thomas was receiving did.
"Christ, you couldn't give me anything better?" Thomas finally spoke as he pushed himself to sit up, gesturing to the 'bed' he'd been laid on. It was barely an inch of mattress with a pillow that felt like it had been frozen in the tundras of Siberia. "Where's my plane, Red? Didn't want to let a little Yank like me to get shot?"
